I'm really late on this but man, Dana White is one of the biggest *******s in sports.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I watched the fight 3 more times today.

Hendricks definitely won the first round. It was close, but I think he definitively was the more effective fighter that round. Yeah, he won the fight 48-47, but the outrage is still a little overkill to me. Not the worst decision I have ever seen, Shogun/Machida anyone? Crap, I think Bisping/Hammill might have been worse than this. Until they change how fights are scored, "close" fights like this will always be controversial. I say "close" because it is only close because damage is not a criteria refs are supposed to score.

Dana is wrong for overreacting about GSP but I still respect the hell out of him for wanting what's right for the sport and the UFC brand. Yeah he acted like a child but it's not like GSP isn't paid big time and it's not like he won't continue to be paid. So don't cry for GSP, he's going to live pretty for the rest of his life. Dana just doesn't want to see his company go to **** because of these controversial decisions.

As far as comparing this to Brock, Anderson etc. etc., completely different situation. Not comparable at all IMO. Dana was too quick to speak but his heart was in the right place. He's just like a fan at heart and basically said what a lot of guys were thinking "GSP, come on man, you can't just leave right now, there needs to be a rematch ASAP". At the same time GSP needs to be respected and he can do whatever the hell he wants. He's been the classiest champ the UFC has ever seen.

In the end Dana is the best guy for this sport and company and I wouldn't want anyone else to take his position. Who gives a **** if he's an ******* or a jerk? I certainly don't, I just need him to continue to give us great fights and make sure the sport continues to grow. I don't blame him for reacting the way he did, this type of thing leaves a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Two wrongs don't make a right but it really doesn't bother me that he often speaks too soon and harshly. So what?

Yeah that quote I got was apparently from Saturday night itself. On Monday he made another quote which wasnt as inflammatory but was more along the same lines....

He doesn't owe anything. If he wants to retire, he can retire, said White. But if you don’t think that while he holds the belt and he still wants to stay in the sport that he has to step up and defend the title, you’re crazy. He can retire and give up the belt.
It is what it is, I just think Dana needs to cool it a bit, just have an interim belt like he would do if a champ was injured and going to be out awhile, wouldnt be the end of the world.

I dont disagree with Dana's Monday statement at all. GSP's statement was non-committal in the ring regarding retirement. He was still punchy and thats probably why it was but it seemed like he was semi retiring. He was hinting at taking a year or so off from the sport with no guarantee he would return. The UFC doesnt do interims when there is no potential date of return. Even with Cruz, they knew he was coming back even though he had medical setbacks.

Re: UFC 167 - St. Pierre v. Hendricks

Johny Hendricks insists that he was only punching at 70% when he beat up UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre last Saturday before losing a controversial split decision. The reason? Hendricks tells the Dallas Morning News that he had his hands wrapped more lightly than usual before his UFC 167 title bout against GSP and so was not able to safely hit with as much power as usual. "I usually get a thick wrap and this time I didn't do that," Hendricks said. "Instead of me asking for a thicker wrap, I kept my mouth shut. It's my fault. That's on me. It means I hit hard enough that I can punch through the 4 oz gloves. So that's what made my hands get bruised. I couldn't punch as hard as I could . The more injured I get, the less I get to use it, the more he gets comfortable, so I had to tone down my power. I was still hurting at 70 percent. Wait till I get a full hand wrap. That only builds confidence, because I beat the pound for pound best fighter in the world. I will be back, and I will be stronger than before." Ideally, Hendricks said he would like to rematch St. Pierre at the March 15 UFC 171 card which will take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX, where the welterweight lives. "Yeah, I think I have a great chance to fight on that card," Hendricks said. "It's going to be great for Texas and a lot of people in Oklahoma. My goal is to have it be one of the bigger shows. If I can't fight, I am still going to promote it. It's going to be great for the sport to come here and try to fill the stadium. That would be impressive." Continue reading →

I dunno man, I think the guy is kind of an ***.

I know I complain about fighter behavior pretty often, I am just big on class and dignity. I know the fight game is different than other sports, so I try to go light, but I am getting a little tired of the "I wasn't even trying to knock him out." Uh, ok guy.

You gotta lighten up, man. They're fighters. The over confident, I can beat anybody attitude that makes them entertaining in the ring can't just be shut off when they get a mic in front of them.

And honestly, who cares if he's an ***? I actually find that MORE entertaining.
