Good question. Perhaps the AWA survives and the WWF never becomes big and Wrestlemania is never born. Perhaps we would still have regional promotions even, which in the Northeast would mean ECW.

What if Shelton Benjamin had mic skills?

Vince doesn't expand when he does. Verne Gagne would've blown it sooner than later. This was a guy so out of touch, he didn't even watch their ESPN show. He would have eventually soured on Hogan as Champion since he wasn't a legit wrestler. Hogan going up north and the WWF expansion would be delayed about a year.

He'd still be stuck in feuds with guys like Masters and Carlito.

The legend of Mick Foley would not exist.

What if the original ECW had been financially stable and never folded.

            Fun thread.

What is Andre the Giant won the title from Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III?

I think ECW would have become a little bigger after the WWF bought out the WCW but not considerably so. That being said, if ECW is truly alive and well, TNA doesn't exist.

Wrestling is set back for years, Hogan winning was an iconic moment for the sport and really for Hulkamania as a whole.

They would be wasted. Crammed into small segments that do nothing for them.

What if all TNAs talent that was once in ROH left to re-join ROH?

I'd be marking out a lot more.

Seriously though, there wouldn't be much of a difference. Maybe a few more people would recognize the names of AJ and Joe and Homicide, but not enough to make any type of dent.

I STRONGLY disagee with this statement re: him not taking the cage bump preventing "the legend" of Mick Foley from existing.

By that time in his career, Foley already did a MILLION amazing things in the ring and on the mic - his legend was already firmly entrenched and as strong as hell. He had so many incredibly hardcore matches, and helped pioneer the "extreme" style of wrestling. I've seen a tape of him v. Funk in front of about 500 people in some sort of Japanese gynasium - it was honestly one of the best hardcore matches I've ever seen.

The point of that last example was to demonstrate that Foley had been giving his heart and sole in the ring for many years prior to 'Taker throwing him from the cage - he had already become a legend in the eyes of many. He already cut the greatest promos of all time, IMO, while in ECW. He already gained some widespread exposure in WCW. He was already an international hardcore hero in Japan.

So, I think that instead of saying that his legend would not exist, perhaps it's more appropriate to say that he wouldn't have gotten such mainstream exposure and popularity for being the one guy average fans think of when they hear the phrase "hardcore wrestler."

This is a VERY long and roundabout one, but one of many great ECW Foley promos: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GzJy0W3tBbo

EDIT: Not a bad one by Funk, either, in the above link. Loved that match with the branding iron. It's on one of the Pioneer DVDs.

'stone cold' wouldn't have been created, wwe may have struggled to overtake wcw, and steve austin may have never even became a star, at least to the point he is now.

What if Bret Hart and McMahon actually came to an agreement and the montreal screwjob never happened (hart stayed in wwf)?

My understanding of the incident is that Hart was on his way out of WWF simply due to money; he had signed a contract with WCW well beforehard apparently and was going to WCW whether he got screwed or not. That said his relationship with Vince would probably end up more amicable a lot sooner. Potentially he could have jumped back to WWE before getting kicked in the head by Goldberg.

What if John Cena got injured for an extended period of time and had to be taken offscreen?

If that happened tonight it would be a huge blow. I think they would have to put the belt on Orton since there would be no one else to put it on.
