This reminds me about a rumor that was going around about a year and a half ago about a supposedly big name WWE superstar that had serious mental issues from wrestling that a lot of insiders feared that would lead to his death. It was reported by Dave Metzlger I believe. Makes you think whether or not he was referring to Chris Benoit.

Everyone speculated that it was either Ric Flair or Kurt Angle that Metzlger was referring too.

You can't always stop or prevent Cronic/Severe Depression no matter how good the medicine or doctors are.

Yep and often people with depression aren't treated because they don't realize they have a problem (even if its obvious to others). It can become a snowball effect that spirals out of control. Sadly, people who suffer from severe depression usually kill loved ones, not strangers.

Wrestling insider Dave Meltzer, who runs the website wrestlingobserver.com and knew Benoit for 20 years, said he’s heard “a million rumours” about what happened in the Benoit house.

Benoit was supposed to appear at a wrestling show in Beaumont, TX, on Saturday, but didn’t appear, Meltzer said.

When he failed to appear at a pay-per-view event Sunday in Houston, Meltzer said, organizers covered by saying Benoit had to cancel because of “personal issues.”

Meanwhile, Metlzer said, WWE brass were frantically phoning Benoit at home to find out what was going on.

Finally, he said, they called the local police and asked them to check out his home.

Just goes to show you that the WWE Wellness Program is a crock of ****. Not their fault though. It also goes to show you that modern medicine is a LONG way from being where it needs to be in terms of diagnosing and treating this type of illness, whether it's what Benoit was going through or not.

TJ, I really hope that VKM takes the wellness program one step further after this weekends events. There is no more room for guys getting very sick or passing away anymore.....but like you stated, depression is a killer on its own.

If you haven't suffered from depression, you really shouldn't make statements like that. It's not something easily dealt with, and sometimes the symptoms are well hidden, even to the sufferer.

Yes, I look at depression as a drug.....it eats away at you until one day you go booom, unless you can be helped in some way. Depression can warp the mind and make people do crap that they wouldn't even dream of doing.

Suffering from severe depression does not excuse someone who has killed their son and wife. If he just killed himself that would be one thing but taking others with you is something completely different.

You've obviously never been around someone who's bipolar other wise you would have never said that.

It's a sad fact of life.

Most people think that a pill fixes it all.
Not everyone's mind can be fooled or fixed by a pill even if they admit to the problems... this is a sad case in general. To bad that many people will ignore quite possibly the true story behind it.... Cronic/Severe Depression. They'll just hate on the guy instead of saying, "what can be done to trt and prevent things like this from happening again?" Most just sweep it under the rug. *sighs*

You do realize clinical depression can cause psychotic disorders (psychosis being one of them)? IF his depression was in a very advanced state of clinical depression he logically may not have understood what he was doing.

And before somebody says he could have gotten help depression is under diagnosed pretty frequently.

Honestly, I don't care. I'm generally sympathetic towards people who have mental disorders but when you stop harming yourself and you end the lives of other people I have no sympathy for you.

If Benoit's mental problem could have been identified earlier, this could have been prevented. He obviously had a chemical imbalance and an advanced state of depression. Awful news.

Where is this coming from? It seems like people want this depression story to be true so they can feel sorry for the guy. I have never seen a person who has allegedly done something like this being defended by so many people.

There is NO JUSTIFCATION for killing someone out of spite.

There are reasons that can lead too it.

Depression, Insainity, or even just cold blooded murder.

None is ever going to really know... but the people that bottle things up eventually snap at some point.

It's sad to see that Chris went as far as he did.
It's really sad that this will tarnish his In Ring legacy.
