Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
Disappointing show for me.
Punk-Taker was very good. But didn't live up the Taker matches from the past five years(I'm including Taker-Edge in that).
Rock-Cena was better than expected, but still not great.
HHH-Brock was blah. I thought the finish had potential with the false taps, but didn't live up to the billing.
The rest of the show was full of ten minutes matches that weren't bad, but weren't good either.
And the booking throughout was highly predictable.
The PG Era doesn't bother me. But the cookie cutter booking does. 98% of these shows are so predictable. I don't see a point of ordering PPVs if I know what's going to happen as soon as the match is booked.
I used to order every WWE PPV, now I'm debating if I even want to watch Raw tomorrow night. I'm sure no one here cares, but my patience with the product is slipping fast. If they want to book for a target audiences of 8-12 year olds, I guess I should probably move on :/
This is why Stephanie shouldn't be in charge of the writing team. She doesn't get it but at the same time, she has full job security as Vince will never tell her to go. Get rid of these Hollywood writers (Stephanie has bragged before about how some of the writers worked on shows like Conan ... who cares?) and let guys like Heyman, that actually understand how to write/book for a pro wrestling audience, do just that.
So frustrating. I remember Jim Ross saying during the Monday Night Wars that WWE listened to its fans. Based on the angles/pushes of that time, I believe that to be true. Today, WWE clearly does not listen to what its audience wants; they tell us what to like/dislike and that's it.
This company will never progress with thinking like that.Currently Playing:

Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
Edge-Taker was classic and vastly underrated. I went into that match believing Taker was going to win, but the story the told in the ring had me believing in some of Edge's nearfalls as the match went on. Sadly as good as tonight's match was, I never felt that way during Punk-Taker.Co-Commish of the OS Vets I & II

He just got done with one of the longest reigns ever. And just faced Taker at WM.

Wish I could put this in my sig or make it my avatar.. or something.
I think it's the perfect image to describe the reaction by most to this disappointing WM.

Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
I thought the show was alright. Relatively solid and entertaining. A better show than last year. Had good pace whereas last year's was booked atrociously. Not TOO much fluff. Puff Daddy singing some of his better songs (including Victory which might be my favorite rap song ever because of the Rocky theme in it) was a pleasant surprise. His performance didn't really drag on. Too many video promos/commercials though and no backstage segments it seems. That was really odd. No real special entrances for the most part which is good and bad. Entrances are always nice but I do appreciate Rock/Cena just coming out normally. Should have done that last year.
I didn't like the fact that there was no God Bless America/anthem though or opening pyro, though people on Twitter were saying it was because there was rain in the area during the beginning of the show. Fireworks overall were spectacular, as were the on-screen graphics.
Stage was incredible. Statue of Liberty on top of the canopy was gorgeous. Just a really nice design. If they had people go up there and fight or finish the match on the bridge, that would have been an iconic Wrestlemania image like Hogan and Andre staring, Hogan and Warrior hugging, Michaels' Wrestlemania XII entrance, etc. Imagine Taker tombstoning Punk up there.
Entire show was predictable though. Punk/Taker was real good because of the last half of the match, but I NEVER felt the suspense I did during the HBK/HHH matches. The outcome was just not up in the air at all. Not that it was TOTALLY up in the air with HBK/HHH but at least they made you believe there was a chance and a growing chance as the matches went on. Nope. Nothing. Second best match of the year so far, probably. Punk/Cena on RAW was #1. Nice touch by Punk with the Taker tights.
Fandango's entrance was awesome. Chick in the front was smoking hot and his usual chick is just stunning. Good match with Jericho. I say it often but I really admire Jericho. Dude puts these nobodies over. Weird finish though.
No entrance for Swagger? That's ****ing unacceptable. If you're not gonna care about the entrance of one of the wrestlers in one of your title matches, why should we care? I honestly don't remember anything from that match. Pretty big letdown. Expected more out of it.
Not having Miz/Barrett on the show is unacceptable too.
Opening match was surprisingly entertaining. I didn't expect much at all but it was a good match and the crowd got behind it.
Thank God HHH won. I didn't really expect him to lose to a loser like Brock. Brock doesn't care about the company, no chance he'd go over HHH there. It was an okay match. The last third or so got entertaining but the stairs---meh. Done last year with Cena. Brock is just so worthless to me, man. Just can't care about anything he does and the guy fought my favorite wrestler ever tonight. I hope he goes away now.
Heyman was SO FUNNY. Holy crap. Just straight up, piss-your-pants hilarious. His expressions, what he was saying. So good.
Rock/Cena. Eh. Finisher overload and didn't expect anything else for the ending. I'm happy though. The setup tease for the people's elbow/cocky Cena off the ropes was real nice. As said above, it's pretty ridiculous that your three biggest matches feature four part-timers.
Food was good. Real good.
Not sure what else to say. I wasn't expecting much out of this show and got some decent entertainment. For Wrestlemania though, it has to have the aura. It didn't.Comment

Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
Man I remember when this company had balls...
So since December anyone with a computer literally knew all of the big Mania matches and their outcomes.....and it all came to fruition. What...a...joke.
Punk/Taker should've closed the show...esp. with how lame Cena/Rock was...hell the fact it wasn't even the co main event is stupid but HunTor had to have his glory.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
I went and saw the show at my local theatre. It was my 1st mania since 26 and I went in not expecting much. I was actually impressed, didn't see ryback losing, thought fandango was just plain stupid I knew better but I was pulling for Jericho, swagger and del rio was pretty good and really enjoyed taker vs. punk, good back and forth match, way better than his last regular wm match vs. HHH. I can't stand heyman at all and I loved the fact that HBK superkicked him at the end of hhh lesnar match and cena rock was pretty much what I expected and because of that it really shouldn't of closed the show. I enjoyed it though, got my money's worth.
I also did not like at all they didn't do any backstage interviews and no post show highlight package set to music, that was one of the best things about mania in the past.Comment

Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
First timer in these parts..
I haven't watched WWE for a loong time, mainly my favourite highlights on YouTube. But without even watching this years 'Mania, it still feels like the WWE has lost it's magic that kept me tuned in every Monday and Friday.
Someone here made a point about there fathers/grandfathers feeling the same way back in the 70's/80's, so maybe it's just got that point were all the legends and favourites I used to watch have now all gone. It's just a bunch of new guys and no names to me (With the exception of a few).
Obviously it's not helped by WWE being PG and having crappy scripts. One thing I will say though is that the stadium looked incredible. The set looked awesome and I think if this Mania was set anywhere else it would of been completly boring. The setting seemed to help part of it.Comment

Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
The book of the main events was horrible. The lesnar/triple H match should have come before punk/taker. The buzz for punk/taker was alot better than triple H/Lesnar.
Overall solid show. Not great but not terrible. Swagger losing was disappointing, Rock/Cena, it is what it is. Lesnar/HHH was good. But match of the night was Punk/Taker. Honorable mention to Jericho putting fandango over.Comment

Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
I wish I could have seen the collective rolling of eyes from the superstars backstage as the Rock passed the torch to an over the hill John Cena.
I enjoyed the show, but it was really lacking. One of the most predictable PPV's ever. Have Dolph cash in, end the streak, have Cena finally turn heel to win. Do SOMETHING. Jeez. I got back into the WWE a few years ago. I've seen a few people say the same thing. They are losing me..These days I'm less like "Jailhouse Rock" Elvis and more like "dying alone on the toilet" Elvis.Comment

Re: WrestleMania 29 - (4/7/13)
Internet Wrestling 101 in the 2010's, CM Punk must win at every single thing that he does no matter what. He said what everyone was thinking that one time and so now he has been excused from the lowly life of mortals. He can do no wrong and must be the center of the wrestling universe at all times. There should be a picture-in-picture box of Punk at all times during every show. Raw, NXT, Main Event, Smackdown, Saturday Morning Slam, AM Raw, every PPV and during house shows the jumbo screen should feature the box as well. He also must be winning at whatever he's doing in the box. Eating contest vs Ryback, playing checkers, playing Xbox/PS3, foot race against Kofi, doing his taxes, whatever.Comment
