Watching Nitro and Raw from early 1997, and it's amazing that in 3-4 years WCW would be shut down and WWF would be as big as ever.

Nitro made Raw look like low budget crap. WWF was still doing the taped Raws, and their go-home show for Rumble that year was so bad. Meanwhile, the same night Nitro was at the Super Dome, and the next week they drew over 19,000 at the United Center

Nitro was a hot mess, which was 1,000 times more entertaining. When I was a kid watching both shows I always leaned WWF just because, but watching it now Nitro had so much going for it. Crowds were so hot too.

What did ya'll think of them giving Hogan that push and that Title shot against Triple H going into Backlash 2002?

Nostalgiamania was running wild and I loved every second of it. Pretty sure Hogan's crowd reaction the night after WM X8 is still the GOAT

Even when he was whacking The Rock in the back of the head with a hammer and ramming his ambulance with a semi, the crowd was cheering Hogan on. They didn’t have a choice but to give him that run lol

To me, you can boil down WWF vs WCW in 1996 to 1997 like this:

Avoid Raw and watch the WWF PPVs

Watch Nitro and avoid the WCW PPVs.

If you do that, it is a highly entertaining era.

Was watching a Nitro from Jan 97, and it was Meng/Barbarian vs Steiners. I feel like at some point we got away from realizing how badass it is seeing big dudes beat the **** out of each other. Sad.

Those 4 guys weren't exactly the safest guys in the ring either. I think they try to showcase that style of match every once in a while but it still feels a little too safe unless Brock Lesnar snaps and goes crazy like he's prone to do from time to time.

In a single episode of Raw in March 98, they dubbed the rocks move the peoples elbow, Austin wanted a beer during a promo(this was before beer because his signature), and Jr somewhat referenced hhh as the game. That's character development.

Also, what was up with laser pointers? Seems like any chance someone gets, they use it during raw, especially during darker lit moments.

We spent a lot of the 90's trying to blind each other.

Oh for sure it was a different time. There was a spot in the match where Barbarian was gonna belly-to-belly Rick Steiner with both guys on the top rope, but Rick backed out lol. Scott Steiner could belly to belly a small car and it would probably land in mint condition.

Man, I don't think enough credit is given to the whole Bret Hart/Canada vs HBK/Austin feud.

It is absolutely amazing how they'd be heels and faces respectively in the US and flip when in Canada. Even Lawler would flip while he was on commentary.

Those last 3 aren't anything notable.....

But 97 hart foundation was great. The scheduling was perfect having ppvs and tv events in both countries during all this. Like a playoff series in a way with the rotation. Austin booed during AE, only in Canada lol.

Whether they were notable enough wasn't the point. It was we had all those factions pop up in a short time span.

Man, the shade being thrown at Austin when he left in 2002.

I remember watching that episode live when Vince told everyone that he left. My interest in Wrestling was already declining slowly, especially with The Rock going back and forth to Hollywood, it dropped significantly once Austin rolled out.
