    Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

lol, I'm on this episode of Raw now

(sidenote, why are they using the "Hogan-era" logo along with the attitude era one? Look at the title, this was the 2nd week of the titles creation, but it has the older WWF logo on it. Even the turnbuckles and the WM logo among other logos for this time period still have the older WWF logo on it despite the attitude era logo being around for months at this point)

      WWE Network Discussion Thread

Because they had only recently just switched to using the scratch logo. That title belt, along with the IC and European title belts had already been commissioned and set to debut after WM 14 months before that moment as well as they had just switched belt makers as well. It takes time to make and switch all that stuff. Which is why when they changed their name to WWE on something like May 3rd of 2002, Hogan and Undertaker were walking around with an Undisputed title belt that still had the WWF logo and World Wrestling Federation Champion on it until the night Taker lost it to Rock in July. RVD was walking around with a IC title with a giant WWF logo on it still until they unified the IC with the World title in 2002 and then brought it back in ‘03. Regal with the European title, etc.

It takes a lot less time to change the tv graphics for that kind of thing as opposed to other stuff that has to be made.

        Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread

Titles I can understand, probably a combination of time and unproper planning if they didn't plan so far in advance a company logo change or just expect it to take as long as it did for new stuff. Half their tv graphics were updated and half weren't, so who knows. Though losing to wcw so much in ratings, something like this obviously was least of their worries.

Speaking of which, I'm on the episode raw finally passed nitro. McMahon VS Austin. And random funny moment with Luna and Goldust showing people what a bra and panties match is. Goldust playing role of sable and had running commentary during it. "o, don't take it off! Stop it. Stop that! Let me help you. O, you're hurting me." lol. Fans actually laughing at his comments made it funnier. And Jr finishing segment off "somebody's gonna be stripped to their bra and panties in Greensboro! Sorry mama, I had to say that!"

Something that really stands out in a difference from past VS present is lack of scripting. Things then were so unpredictable, superstars could show up in any segment, interact with superstars unrelated to their feud but still managing to further their story/character. And confrontations with rivals were intense and chaotic. And the big stars got over and progressed their feuds and character each week. I don't care if there's blood or swearing (which at this point in raw history , there actually isn't much surprisingly), a great storytelling show with fighting and plotlines is more than enough. Not to mention keeping things short and simple. No 20 min match with 3 breaks, no 10 min promo to say something that could be said in 2, no dragging out segments, beatdowns, post match antics for sake of filling time.

That's the biggest problem with the current product, there is no character development on the babyface side. Rollins, Reigns, Balor, Styles, and Roode all seem like the same character to me, with the same promo with exception to them throwing in their catch phrase. AJ is the best wrestler on the planet so he can get away with it, but the others all seem like vanilla cookie cutter characters. Nakamura is even starting to fit in with those guys.

It's pretty crazy to me that these guys come up from NXT so over, and then after a few months the only thing they have going for themselves is a popular theme song and memories of great NXT matches.

I think the root of it is that WWE thinks it's better to have a bunch of "superstars" of relatively equal talent (50/50 booking), with different looks from different countries, so that they can claim they have huge depth and variety. Really they're all just mid-carders who are shuffled into main event spots occassionally.

They probably hadn’t planned on changing that stuff though. That “New Generation” logo wasn’t even ten years old when they switched over to the scratch logo and it’s not like Vince PLANNED on Bret Hart being a dumb *** that forced his hand and ended up turning him into a heel and helping create this new edgy Attitude Era. The new logo reflected the new direction the company decided to go in on the fly out of desperation. Once they made the decision to change the logo it’s a process to implementing it. The graphic on screen is the easiest to change because it costs nothing, but then they probably wanted to gradually roll it out because promotional posters are already made and sent to cable providers, venues etc. months in advance. The logos on the WWF trucks have to be change not to mention Vince was damn near out of business at that point so maybe he just couldn’t afford to waste the cash on turnbuckle pads and changing the WM logo etc.

Lol, Jr commentating on raw is some of funniest parts of the show.

"Helmsley is gonna expose himself! And urinate on the crowd?"

I started watching the Raw top 100 moments. I love it’s the whole segment and not just a highlight. But man some of these moments are questionable at best. They’ve got stuff in here that sets up great moments like when Steff tells HHh she’s pregnant to get him to agree to the vow renewel(which is def top 100) but is the set up really a top moment lol?

Is that the same top 100 that was on DVD?

Just be lucky they aren't skewing young, otherwise Steph getting arrested a few years back would be top 5. And Roman's post Taker/WM "this is my yard" would be #1.

Man I loved Jamie Noble and Nidia. Getting to their arrival on Smackdown these last few viewings brings back great memories. Noble winning the cruiserweight title from Hurricane and then splurging the money on a new trailer for he and Nidia is hilarious. Her face when he takes her to the kitchen sink and turns on the water faucet showing off the running water is priceless. Didn’t even hit me when I was watching the current product that they basically bit Jamie Noble’s schtick with Heath Slater when he joined Smackdown.

It’s different. Angle being named GM is like number 98 so it’s more up to date. No idea if it’s basically the same with new moments mixed in. It’s been awhile since I watched the DVD

Noble really does live in a trailer home ... or at least used to. Not sure if he moved after he was stabbed a couple of years ago.

Friendly reminder for those who may have forgotten or never saw it, be sure to check out possibly the best Triple threat match ever at Vengeance 2002. The Rock vs Kurt Angle vs The Undertaker for the WWE Undisputed Championship. From start to finish a true classic. The crowd reaction throughout was insane.
