I loved at WM10 when they had the Bill Clinton impersonator sitting with Ted Dibiase and IRS. One of those times when perfect satire just happened to fall into place.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Took a break from the Nitro era and went back and watched the first Slamboree: A Legends Reunion. Still has one of my favorite themes from the 90's.

The reason I mentioned this, is I had forgotten just how good the Nick Bockwinkel/Dory Funk Jr. match was, given how old they were. Guys put on a clinic for a 15 minute draw, and showed they could still go. If you are a fan of that style of wrestling, its definitely worth a watch. And if you aren't a fan, you just at least tune in to see the Hollywood Blondes vs. Dos Hombres cage match. One of my fav tag matches to this day.NFL- Green Bay Packers
NCAA- Florida State Seminoles
NHL- Carolina HurricanesComment

SD after the wedding
Spoiler
Sd opens with Steph apologizing for what happened. She says she'll take care of it herself.
Viscera and Kane feud continues. I never knew this AE Viscera was actually similar to a gimmick he used around the PG era.
Not sure if he's just getting heel reaction or if the xpac heat is starting already, but fans dont like him either way.
Edge/Christian vs Dudleys. Dudleys win and Acolytes come in after and attack Dudleys to get revenge for the card game on Raw. Edge apparently injured in match.
Steph waiting backstage for Test. A limo comes, she gets happy, opens the door and..its HHH!
DX comes to the ring with a bunch of shopping carts filled with gifts. They hype up Armageddon matches. They introduce the newest member of McMahon family, HHH. He comes out to Vinces theme lol. All those gifts were for HHH. Of course xpac is the one to not get HHH a gift.
Mankind comes out trying to play peacemaker with Rock and Snow. Jericho interrupts. He wants to end Mike Foleys career(you read that right).
Update on Stone Colds condition. He'll need neck surgery. We obviously knew that.
Kurt Angle coming out going on and on about himself. King had best line. "If I had a son, I'd want him to grow up to be like Kurt Angle.". We see a Teddy Long (random) tag team match, but no teddy long as ref. Angle and Blackman vs Headbangers. For some reason they had some edited in Cole commentary line for a few seconds before noticeably having the next person reply being Cole again, but much different sounding audio. Wonder what was said originally?
A battle of super heavyweights. Rikishi vs the man who weighs allegedly well over 400 pounds, Crash Holly. Rikishi pulled out a cool move. Almost like popup powerbomb but a cutter instead of powerbomb.
Rock vs Al Snow. Foley watching his best friends fighting. Rock wins and Al attacks Rock after. DX attacks Rock. Mankind comes to rescue and even tries to hit Al Snow with a chair.
Main event time. DX vs Hardys and Big Show. Hardys and Big Show win. #1 contender Bossman attacks Big Show. Rock comes in and attacks DX. Then Mankind and Kane join in.

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Listening to Jerichos podcast with Meltzer about the WCW purchase was definitely interesting. I never knew all details behind it. I only started watching weekly around the time WCW was ending.
I knew the small details of Bischoff possibly taking over. But the tv deal getting pulled, new Turner execs HATED wrestling, Vince winding up with greatest purchase ever, 2.5M for everything WCW related and no committment to any preexisting contracts.
I knew they wanted WCW to be a weekly show, but didn't know it was SpikeTV which really prevented it from happening with the exclusivity deal. Monday Nitro and I'm guessing Thursday Raw(and SD dies after 2-3 years). Booker T vs Bagwell match ruined everything, but having it in a non WCW town changed history.
And the storyline was gonna be Linda divorcing Vince and getting Monday Night programming in the divorce. Giving it to Shane and he'd run Nitro.
I still feel 2001 should've been ONLY the ECW invasion. June-Novemver could've been ECW, then after Survivor Series is when Flair debuts and WCW starts coming in. Everything up to WM18 happens similarly, but after that we get the full battle lines drawn and could've had Rock,HHH,Austin(who doesn't take his ball home anymore in this event) leading charge vs Hogan,Hall,Nash,Flair and others.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
ECW 1993 RECAP
Spoiler
- memphis style booking in the start, which i expected due to eddie gilbert running things.
- terry funk really put the company on the map. i mean they had "other" legends making appearances like road warrior hawk, british bulldog, king kong buddy, kevin sullivan, abdullah the butcher, stan hansen, etc... but funk was consistent with being on shows - either promos, commentary, besides wrestling as well.
- lets be honest, the matches are pretty bad. funk/gilbert from summer sizzler, funk/sabu from holliday hell, or funk/snuka in a cage match for the tv title from a fall episode of hardcore tv has to be MOTY.
- dangerous alliance/hotstuff international consisted of don murraco, shane douglas, jimmy snuka, eddie gilbert, dark patriot lead by paul e. dangerously (heyman) was a great stable but overkill in terms of they dominated the show (in majority of every segment, and with that talent almost every match ended with interference). i'm curious to see what would've happened if gilbert didn't leave the company. it seems like they were building between a split between the faction.
- eddie gilbert crowns himself the king of philadelphia. the segments for this don't hold up well, but this man was without a doubt the top heel in the company and he worked hard at becoming that hahaha. you can totally tell he was obsessed and wanted to become his idol, jerry lawler.
- the sandman has always been a horrible worker. heyman found gold in him by letting him be himself and not the surfer character he once was. other than funk, he was the top face in the company. had a nice feud with rocking rebel leading to rebel getting suspended for throwing ink in the face of sandman's valet peaches (wife lori fullington). the feud never had a conclusion due to rebel coming back from suspension and by then heyman already took over booking reigns.
- the tag division was a mess. super destroyers looked menacing, but they were horrible. why do they talk? haha just killed it for me. also, within months they turn on each other, and one unmasks - thus ending your most established face tag team in the company. hunter q robinson was the squirly manager, which i loved. i thought his turn against the destroyers was good as he aligned with the suicide blondes (chris candido debut!). funny thing though, one of the members wasn't even blonde... and he was balding (johnny hotbody i believe. fun fact: hotbody is a former ecw heavyweight champion). i dug that the blondes did the freebird rule though, their feud with the destroyers was played out within a month. i feel like they faced off every week or so. candido jumps ship to smokey mountain wrestling and the titles are up for grabs in a tournament... hotstuff international/dangerous alliance (dark patriot/gilbert) win the belts, then they are vacated again due to gilbert leaving the company. i swear, the belts were cursed.
- "iron man" tommy cairo was being groomed into a star. the pennsylvania state title was a joke, and they should've unified it with the television title instead of dropping the belt and making NO mention of it.
- summer sizzler had a girl get her top ripped off and her breasts were exposed haha. i thought i was watching it on the network but realized i had found the event on daily motion. no wonder why it wasn't edited out.
- salvatore bellomo was another fun comical character. rockin' rebel killed him with the chair shot and they really pushed that his career was over. like seriously, endless video packages with bellomo with his family and promos telling the fans to write to him.
- the beginnings of the ruthless philly crowds we know and love are starting to show. crude signs and straw hat guy can be seen which made me mark.
- even before heyman's booking, the company still had that southern style booking which was still violent! scaffold matches, texas massacre chain wars, strap matches, etc....
- jay suli and stevie wonderful were horrible ring announces. thank god joey styles comes around in september. joey in 1993 was still so good. heyman is on commentary later on the year and he heels it up, which is fun.
- tod gordon announces gilbert's departure on air and we are fed ultraclash hype/preview episodes of tv before the supercard which was the first show heyman booked.
- you can see heyman's influence from that show. public enemy debut (tables!), jt smith's scaffold bump (which was key in being shown in the opening intro package for years to come). funk teamed with hansen to brawl ALL OVER with kevin sullivan and abdullah the butcher. also, stars from the W*NG promotion in japan! after this show a lot of feuds were dropped and you can really see heyman's vision start to take shape.
- a headhunters/public enemy feud could've been fun. so gilbert leaves and johnny hotbody and tony stetson are awarded the belts. again, tag titles are cursed in 1993. they drop them to TOMMY DREAMER and johnny gun in like ten seconds.
- yes, tommy dreamer debuts as a pretty boy babyface. from his debut (which he lost) i feel like the fans accepted him and gave him a standing ovation. by this time we're seeing tazmaniac (tazz) and sabu being brought in.
- "the sexiest man" jason (many may know him as jason knight, guy who jobbed to jazz and managed justin credible in 1998-1999). is such a sleaze bag. his catchphrase is "do you like my suit?". after sandman rejected his managerial services, they start to feud. jason starts managing mr. hughes, which is a great combo!
- i feel like the television title was considered most valuable title in the company for the longest time. crazy to think because ecw did that with rvd several years later. many fans don't even remember murraco as heavyweight champion. tito santana actually defeated him for the belt (awesome throwback to their wwf stuff) but then quickly lost the the belt to shane douglas.
- heyman still was managing douglas, sherri martel, and brought in sabu to his alliance which douglas didn't appreciate. from the moment sabu's name was mentioned on ecw television - he was pushed to the moon. seriously. debuts against tazmaniac, wins the heavyweight title from douglas, then becomes a double champion at november to remember by pinning funk and adding the television to his collection. i feel like it all just happens way to fast. in 1993 sabu was one of a kind though. revolutionary for sure.
- public enemy had a feud with badd company which lead to a brutal assault and pe ended up in jail hahaha. i'm seriously just waiting on them to win the belts and have a decently-long reign with the belts. maybe in 1994.
- so jay suli and stevie wonderful are gone. i mentioned joey styles has taken over commentary, but there's this other guy matty in the house - who is batsh*t crazy. he's almost too much for me, i seriously can't describe it. very corny but hey, it's 1993. i feel like he would be better off managing public enemy or something.
- jt smith's character arc was nice. great underdog. he hurt his leg from the scaffold bump, but continued to work so the majority of his matches were his opponents getting cheap heat by targeting his leg which resulted in some "just coming up short" loses and "come from behind" wins. he had a nice title match with shane douglas.
- i'm not sure what's going on with terry funk. is he slowly turning heel? i mean, he threw in the towel for jt smith in a match. they argue. at one point due to miscommunications and inadvertent stuff in matches, funk and smith would end up brawling. funk even cut a ruthless promo assaulting joey styles. funk also enlisted in badd breed as his "guns for hire". we're starting to see blending the line between faces/heels towards the end of the year, which is what really set ecw apart from other promotions.
- we get it, public enemy are from the streets and are thugs. it's forced down our throats in their promos and even in match stipulations. after the attack on badd company and serving jail time, they are set for a rematch which is a body count match. one man from each team is locked in a shark cage. after 5,10, or was it 15 minutes? can't remember - the cage explodes~!
- shane douglas had a fun match with tommy dreamer towards the end of the year, and i'm looking forward to where both men go in 1994. i want to see douglas back in the main event picture facing sabu, funk, etc...
- funk won a fan vote and defeated sabu to win his first ecw heavyweight title at holliday hell. this feud must continue in 1994. i'm not a fan of the quick title reigns, but it's a 1993 "independent" federation that's probably dealing with not only injuries, but no shows, etc... it's funny, because i feel like heyman has always had this quick, "crack" title changes.
- douglas turns on dreamer as they drop the belts (shane was subbing for johnny gunn) to tazmaniac and kevin sullivan. perhaps we're getting a douglas, sherri, taz, sullivan, woman stable in '94.
- so yeah, 1994 is heyman's first full calendar year booking the product. he's had only a few months to start and establish new feuds, but the production has definitely improved. oh, heyman cuts an awesome christmas-themed promo for the funk/sabu holliday hell match to end the year. the violence (especially for an american promotion) is in full effect. not a ton of family-friendly cartoon characters like the wwf, and heyman seems to book in his own way - the memphis/southern style seemed to go out the window once eddie gilbert left.
- bring on 1994. i want to see sabu and funk continue to kill each other. sandman, douglas, and perhaps dreamer elevated back into main event picture, tag division continues to grow (pitbull #1 made his debut towards the end of the year so i'm assuming we'll see the tag team soon), no more "washed up" legends brought in for a couple of shots and actually build up homegrown talent. i mean, we all know what happens, i'm just trying to watch this stuff week-by-week like i haven't seen it before.
- wrestler of the year: terry funk (sabu would've won, but he didn't come along until the fall once heyman took over)
- tag team/stable of the year: dangerous alliance/hotstuff international (just because of the titles, star power, and dominance. they ran ecw until september. public enemy comes in second with the suicide blondes behind that.)
- match of the year: terry funk vs. jimmy snuka for the television title in a cage match; fall hardcore tv episode. (it was a toss up between that, funk/sabu from holliday hell and the funk/gilbert chain match from summer sizzler)
- moment of the year: jt smith kills his leg falling from the scaffold (just because of how iconic that spot became as we would see it for years to come in the ecw intro video package. runner up would be paul e. dangerously debuts and forms a new dangerous alliance and merges with hotstuff international)
- event/ppv/supercard of the year: ultraclashLast edited by KClolz; 07-10-2019, 12:37 AM.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Final Raw before Armageddon
Spoiler
NAO kick off Raw. Dont if they got in trouble because Road Dogg didn't say any bad or somewhat bad words and made sure to note "we didn't say it". A trend that would happen throughout the night. Others made the crowd say certain words instead of saying it themselves. Even Godfather didn't do his catchphrase all the way through, he let fans finish it.
Too Cool comes out to challenge for titles, but for some reason they have some weird generic music playing instead of their usual theme. Before match starts, Rikishi kicks Billy and does a crotch chop over him lol
Mankind calls out Al Snow to explain why he attacked The Rock. Snow brings up a statement true to this day. What are people gonna remember most about Foley. His book being #1 best seller (which has enraged book critics), or him being thrown off HIAC. Al says he'll find a partner and face Rock N Sock. Snow reveals "I did it!". He did it TO the Rock. He threw Rocks copy of Foleys book in the trash a few months ago.
Tag team action. Hardys vs Angle and his partner(and opponent Sunday) Steve Blackman. In middle of Blackmans entrance, a weird video starts to play. It looks like Tazzs video.
Tonight, the biggest wwf title match in history. Literally. Big Show vs Viscera. If Viscera wins, Armageddon becomes Vis vs Bossman for the title lol
Steph asks HHH for an annulment. HHH comes out and "explains" everything. Starts making up chants that fans made towards Steph (so much for superstars filtering themselves tonight). Deal is made for Armageddon. If Vince wins , they get annulled, if HHH wins, they stay married AND HHH gets a title shot. I know it was part of the story, but HHH ends the segment by forcefully kissing Steph infront of Vince. That didn't age well.
Moolah and a drunk Mae Young at the billboard music awards lol.
The hype for evening gown match for women's title, Miss Kitty doesn't wear underwear, so she better win for her own sake(Chynas words) lol
Al Snows mystery partner....Jericho! Crazy to think despite Jericho debuting in the promo with the Rock, this is only their 2nd ever matchup on tv. They still haven't even had a feud.
Foley knocks Snow down by the announce table. King gets excited and starts yelling at JR "Kick him! Kick him JR!".

Final SD before Armageddon
Spoiler
Jericho vs Road Dogg, Chyna at ringside. Jericho wins, Chyna tells ref Road Doggs foot was on rope, match restarts. Road Dogg wins after Chyna pushes Jericho's leg off the rope.
Test and Steph call off their engagement, fittingly in same arena as Union member Test first asked Steph out on a date. Now that's long term booking lol. Of course XPac comes in, ruins the mood and then leaves all in like 20 seconds.
Angle comes out and rips the Boston crowd. How times have changed. Making fun of Boston for being a loser town. Maybe one day the Red Sox could win a WS (and Pats/Bruins could one day win too). Cole basically said SD crowd next week will be better in Tallahassee Florida lol.
Christian (without Edge who got injured) vs Bulldog. During Bulldogs entrance, lights go out and everything turns orange while some video plays (Tazz?)
Al Snow vs Mike Foley. Surprised these 2 haven't had many matches vs each other. I think just their 2nd singles match against each other ever?
Contract signing time. McMahon family all comes to ringside for it. Funny hearing some of these lines. HHH saying his greatest business venture was marrying Steph. HHH and DX beat up Shane and HHH threw/flipped Shane off the stage and through a table! One of first crazy Shane spots.
Rock comes out and gives a shoutout to the Boston hero Nomar Garciaparra who's in attendance. He and Nomar are going to Fenway with Billy Gunn, getting a baseball bat, shining it up, putting some pine tar on it, turning it sideways and...you know.
HHH vs Kane, HHH takes out Hebner. Then a ref in McMahon mask shows up. Cant be vince since HHH has restraining order. HHH takes him out. Another masked ref comes, HHH takes him out. A 3rd masked mcmahon comes. HHH escapes. Then a 4th mcmahon comes from the stage and attacks HHH
Did people know back then that Tazz would be debuting in WWF? Or that the video playing was for him?
And for the Steph/HHH story, did people suspect something like what was about to happen to actually happen?Last edited by Majingir; 07-13-2019, 03:08 PM.Comment

Was watching Smokey Mountain wrestling on YouTube, and Cornette had a great line on commentary talking about Ivan and Nikita Koloff.
Caudle: you know these Russians are always talking about kilos when they talk about their weight. I've no idea what a "kilo" means.
Cornette: Well I think it means 4-5 years in federal prison, but that's another story.Comment
