Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I saw an incredible Rick Rude pre match promo in my rewatch last night. Instead of the normal cut the music he has a conversation with the ring announcer before the match. “Ladies and gentlemen, Rick Rude has just informed me you people are not worth wasting his breathe on”Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Watching WM13. It really feels like the midway/transition point between the 95/96 style of WWF and what would become the Attitude Era.
Highlights so far:
4 way tag match opens the show. Headbangers vs The Godwins vs...The New Blacksjacks... anytime you put "new" in front of something it's guaranteed to work. JBL was all in on that gimmick tho.
Lawler: do you have any White Zombie CDs, McMahon?
Vince: did they ever play with Tony Bennett?
The Rock vs The Sultan...with The Iron Sheik AND Bob Backlund in his corner. Sheik Backlund? With Honky Tonk Man screaming on commentary. Not enough gimmicks for me. All to get people to root for The Rock. Entire match felt out of date by like 10 years.Comment

I’m almost there again. I’m at first Raw of Feb 97. Smiling is getting lost next week I believe. We are in Sky Dome this week.

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
More WM13
Triple H vs Goldust. Has to be an all time "I don't ever remember that as a WM match" match. A babyface Goldust with Marlena.
Lawler: Goldust is such a big movie fan I think they filmed "Gorillas In The Mist" in Chyna's shower
Me: why why [emoji2369]
JR: I think she does look like a Wilbur...or maybe a Mr Ed
Me: smh
Owen/Bulldog vs Vader/Mankind. Owen as a tag champion (and multi time Slammy winner) feels so this era. Bulldog with an all time tan. Mankind coming out with Paul Bearer (with the urn) while Vader's music plays feels odd lol. Watching this match makes me want to see Owen and Mankind have a longer singles PPV match.
Lawler: can we get an usher over here, Stu just ordered a Geritol on the rocks
Vince: please...
Lawler: Helen's wearing some beautiful antique jewelery. She bought it when it was new.
Match goes on forever AND ends in a countout [emoji2369]
Bret Hart vs Steve Austin. Bret's last WM match (I don't count the Vince one), and that's a damn shame. Should have had a bunch more. 96/97 Austin is the best Austin. Crowd was so damn loud for this match. Also Shamrock did a lowkey great job reffing this match.
Nation of Domination vs LOD and Ahmed Johnson. I look at this version of Ron Simmons squaring off against Ahmed Johnson, and then I look the average wrestler in 2023, and it's no wonder the average person doesn't care anymore lol. Animal trying to piledriver Farooq through a table is still an all time crazy moment to me. Then right after that they set off the non gimmicked fire extinguisher. Then they break out the Jussie Smollett rope to try to hang Ahmed. [emoji2309]
Taker vs Sid. Man, why is this a WM main event? I know why, but it still feels dumb. At least Undertaker gets his WM moment. It's crazy to me that a little over a year later both Bret and Shawn would be basically be done wrestling in WWE. Shawn eventually came back, but these guys owned this era to me.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Watching 96 and 97 does feel so weird to see what things would become. 96 was when we started being introduced into the talent that would become some of the biggest names ever, and 97 is when we started seeing early parts of the attitude era.
But as good as it was, I don't think we saw top to bottom fully stacked shows until maybe mid 98.Comment

97 is my favorite year in WWF
Bret and Shawn were the best they had ever been. Austin best he’d ever been or would be again. HHH is emerging. The Summer of 97 is probably as good as it gets.

It’s wild watching Austin’s WCW stuff and seeing the bumps he was taking before the neck injury. Watching Slamboree 93 and he just took a bump after dangling upside down from the top of a cageComment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Watching Vader/HBK from Summerslam 1996. This match kinda sucked. Aside from that infamous moment, they restarted the match twice for some reason, and overall it's pretty damn flat and underwhelming for a major PPV main event. Shawn's charisma is such that when he's not really into a match it really drags it down. Compare this match to his next title defense at IYH: Mind Games and there's really no comparison. 1996 WWF be like that. Hit or miss.Comment

I actually thought that was a very good match the last time I watched it about a month ago.

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Things I never knew about the Invasion:
The WCW cruiserweight title was defended in a WCW match between Billy Kidman and Gregory Helms.
I know people looked down on the Booker vs Bagwell match, but I didn't realize more WCW matches happened. Definitely set up for failure though. You have WCW as the enemies, so fans already would boo the heels. Then you have people the fans wouldn't be familiar with, so they don't cheer or care about it in general.
I don't even remember Helms in WWF before he became the Hurricane. And siddnote, Jerry Lynn was team WWF?
Scott Hudson on WCW commentary reminds me a bit of Mauro.
Everyone suspects Test is secretly with WCW, the WWF beats him up, just to find out later they were wrong and were just like "our bad..."Last edited by Majingir; 06-01-2023, 06:38 PM.Comment

This where is Cactus Jack angle after Vader powerbombed him on the concrete is glorious. They should have hired Leslie Nielsen to help find him. They just showed the exploding boat segment with Sting and the Bulldog, I’m hooked on 1993 WCWComment
