I miss when wwe used to have that 1 big summer storyline. Felt like after the CM Punk/RTruth summer, they stopped doing these yearly awesome summer stories.

Speaking of summer stories, 16 years ago today:

Say what you want about Kanes career after this, but that summer specifically he was so good. One of my fave characters in wwe history.

That moment he set JR on fire was so crazy

It's funny we think of that moment as such a big deal, and it was, but at the next PPV he was in a midcard match vs Marc Mero, and then at Summerslam he was in a nothing happening opening match vs Yokozuna.

Wasn't until Nov that year they did the Pillman gun angle and his feud with Bret. That was such good ****.

June 24th, 2001. The event, King of The Ring. The night Shane McMahon and Kurt Angle did everything but kill each other. Fun fact, Vince McMahon was very close from actually stopping the match. As Shane recalls.....

Vince McMahon hollered into referee Mike Chioda’s ears to call the match off. “He was saying gibberish because I got knocked in the head a couple times,” Shane McMahon recalled on The Steve Austin Show podcast. “Vince thinks that I was shooing him off, that I was disobeying an order through Chioda, but I never really got the order. He was so mad, again, because he felt I had disobeyed an order… I didn’t get the message,” Shane recalls.
DDP had his WWE PPV debut as part of the Stalker angle he did with Undertaker, and Booker T debuted with the company taking out Austin in a spot that only made Austin's back and neck injuries worse.

This time 8 years ago,we were all trying to take in what we just witnessed on Raw

I hate how they had a taped raw literally minutes after this. Spoiled the biggest moment by continuing on to next week's show just like that?

That feels way way longer than 8 years ago.

My gosh.... it feels like more than 8 years since that infamous pipe bomb and angle with John Cena leading up to Money In The Bank. It's funny listening to it and seeing how right Punk was in that promo about a lot of things.

I feel like wwe is self aware and also not self aware at the same time.

Like they know what fans are thinking and what stuff they want to hear, but at the same time, wwe doesn't care to listen or take any of that advice.

It was a worked shoot....just like Jarrett when he came back in 97. They let him say whatever he wanted until he started talking about the anti-bullying campaign and cut him off.

The way the internet frames it you’d think Vince was sitting in the back asking why Punk was out there.
