A different "this day in wrestling history" kind of post.

Instead of a moment on a show, it deals with various superstars.

On this day in wrestling history....
Stone Cold, RVD, Trish Stratus were born.

Now that's a stacked birth day.

25 years ago today.... Starrcade 1997. The build up, keeping Sting and Hogan apart for the whole year without rushing to get to the match. Everything about it worked until the finish and at that point it comes down to which side of the story you believe in regards to the finish.

I never watched WCW, but it's always crazy seeing how star filled the roster was back then, but then hearing about hundreds of different stories about how bad/chaotic/unorganized the booking was.

Still can't believe WCW had Bret Hart in 1997 coming off the most talked about moment in wrestling history and messed that up, while having guys like Hogan/Nash with so much power on top of all that.

Looking back, I think this was the moment WCW peaked in the 90's. You would think, after a year of the NWO running rampant that booking a conquering babyface to finally put an end to Hollywood Hogan would be easy. After messing up the finish to the main event, which really was Bret Hart screwing Hogan out of a legit win because there was no fast count that was supposed to happen. Match was restarted with Sting winning and he got the big celebration and was treated as a conquering hero, then politics and booking messed everything up.

It's why soon after in April 1998, after Wrestlemania 14 was when WWE snapped the 83 week winless streak in the Monday night ratings and the rest is history. So much booking nonsense really ruined WCW from this moment until Vince bought it in 2001.

24 years ago today…Mankind defeated The Rock to win his first WWF Championship.

And of course this happened, which pretty much changed the trajectory in the MNW.

WCW giving away the results of Raw was always extra stupid to me. Especially by this point, when Bischoff had to know that WCW wasn't going to be able to compete with WWF when it came to leaning in to the more adult style content. It's really insane to think how much happened in the wrestling world from 1996-2001.

Gosh, I could not wait for Monday Nitro back then. I thought Mysterio was the coolest guy, with how nimble he was around the ring.

...plus...well...Goldberg. For all his faults as a "true" wrestler, he filled the bill as a star. Him vs. NWO and Nash was such a fun build-up.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

30 years ago today, the only notable moment in the career of Damien Demento.

Also the first ever episode of Raw

15 years ago, the debut of "MVP" Kofi Kingston

The longevity of current superstars is crazy to see. We saw guys like Kofi, Sheamus, McIntyre and others debuting around the late 00s. Miz was already on TV too.

15 years and he hasn't been in a part time role either. It's almost been a decade of the New Day too!

He died 30 years ago today(depends on time difference since its officially January 28th in france), but that tribute video was from the first Raw after he died.

I always forget that Andre was alive for the first few episodes of Raw.

Just from an accomplishment perspective of everyone involved in the stable post stable breakup, Evolution has to be the most successful stable.

All that, and they were really only together for 1.5-2 years including injuries during it.

It's weird realizing he came back in 2002, and was actually on a single episode of WWE programming. And competed in TNA a month before he died.

Gone too soon, when he came back at the Rumble 2002 I thought he was coming back for another run. Funny thing is, I would have liked to seen how WWE handled the West Texas Rednecks and that whole gimmick. Curt Henning feuding with John Cena because he hates Rap lol.
