      One year ago today at Full Gear 2021, Hangman Adam Page defeated Kenny Omega to win the AEW World Championship. Everything about this match, even the PPV itself was great, loved the ending where Matt & Nick basically know the end is near for Kenny and that Hangman was going to win.

        First elimination chamber. I think lots of guys got real hurt from this match.

        The ruthless aggression documentary highlighted what I've thought for years too. This era was so good for innovative matches. Think about it, in a several year span we saw the creation of HIAC, TLC, EC, MITB among others.

        Was cool during the time seeing the videos hyping up this crazy structure. And the documentary showing behind the scenes clips of the superstars sitting at ringside before the show going over ideas and talking about what they're in for.

        I'm glad we're seeing Wargames on the main roster this year and the Iron Survivor match on NXT. New or different, and innovative ideas/matches is what we need.

          every time i think about HIAC, I think about how visually stunning the gimmick is, and how cool I think it is. Then I kinda get lost thinking about how it exists because they added the escape from the Steel Cage rule, so the HIAC was meant to mean no escape, then for the first HIAC, they had Kane rip the panel off, and it's never really been about being stuck inside the cage with another person. It has led to some iconic and fun moments(and to some pretty bad ones too!) But I often think of how much cooler it would be if they hadn't blown the door off right away.

            Or you know..throw someone off the roof in the second one.

            The thing which has hurt HIAC is the lack of blood, and having the annual PPV.

            It wasn't "this calls for drastic measures, so let's settle it inside hell in a cell!", it turned into "hell in a cell is the next ppv, so let's fight there!"

              I don't think HIAC is hurt by lack of blood, personally. The annual PPV for sure though. I don't know of many people that liked the forced gimmick PPVs though.

                The forced gimmick PPVs made those match types stale.

                  10 years of the Shield!

                  Crazy to see how all 3 ended up being such big stars.

                  I always felt Rollins/Ambrose would be big ever since their FCW days, but never expected Reigns to. Not many stables you could say everyone was a hall of famer on their own AND as a stable.

                  Then to top it off, their breakup was so well done too, even having Reigns who was well established as THE top guy, tribal chief, and everything, the moment Rollins brought up the Shield earlier this year, he snapped and was like "I'll never forgive you for what you did!"

                    I get Dean Ambrose is a WWE gimmick but considering how much has changed under Triple H in a short time where Michael Cole literally said Bullet Club on WWE TV, you would think tagging Moxley would be ok.

                    Good thing Punk didn't get his way and have Kassius Ohno in The Shield over Roman. The Shield would have never worked with Rollins, Ambrose & Ohno. Even though it worked best for everyone, Big E revealing he was almost a 4th member of The Shield in his documentary, crazy. I don't know how WWE could pull this off timing wise, maybe work with AEW a bit but can I just have one time where all three members are holding World Championships at the same time?

                    Roman = Universal Champion
                    Rollins = WWE Champion
                    Moxley = AEW World Champion

                      It's not exactly anyone with any sort of influence running the WWE social team anyways. I'm sure Rollins or Reigns might mention "Dean-O" or "Mox" on TV.

                      I think Ohno would've made the group more like a group of indy guys.

                        I feel like this is one of those.. how it started, how it going memes. One year ago today after some motivation by Brock Lesnar to not wait until Day 1 for his Championship Match, Sami Zayn challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship on Smackdown. Prior to the match, Brock attacked Sami leading to a quick victory for Roman.

                        How things have changed so much 365 days later....

                        How It Started:

                          Sami needs to get one of those full sleeve and pec tattoos to REALLY prove he's an Uce.

                            Like Heyman said, Zayn was basically just a one time character on a TV show who was so good he got promoted to a series regular.

                            I can't believe it's been a year since that Zayn/Lesnar promo.

                            I mean, we should have seen it coming. If Zayn can get Lesnar laughing and having a good time, he can do it to anyone.

                              In the middle of the run of negative reactions against Reigns' main event status, WWE actually got him cheered for one night.

                                Nothing brings faces & Heels together like music, a Slammy Award and Bad Lip Singing. On this Day in 1987... the 1987 Slammy Awards took place with wrestlers singing throughout the show. Between "If You Only Knew" and "Land of 1000 Dances", I want a modern day version of both lol.
