If they were going to do a cinematic match, the Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match should have been a cinematic match. Now I get it with fans there, you don't want your main event to be a cinematic match and fans looking at the screen the entire time.

Omega announced the Death Match on Feb 17th, tickets went on sale the following Friday on the 26th. All AEW had to do was say due to the danger involved in this match we will not have fans in attendance for the show. Then they could have went all out with the explosions. It just sucks that all that build to what mounted to a dud, took away from how great the match was.

Even if had gone off better, hearing JR and Schiavone screaming like the building was going to explode was a little ridiculous. Hard to criticize silliness in other promotions when you do that.

It's really not that big of a deal though. It's a ****ty finish, but it happens to every company. It's disappointing tonight (especially after the announcers selling the countdown), but this one will live on in Botchamania, everyone will have a good laugh, and we'll roll on to the next thing.

It's systemic of a bigger issue with Kahn. Constantly overselling and under delivering is a recipe for disaster. Especially as the "honeymoon phase" ends and people actually begin criticizing the product.

In particular, if and/or when they reach a bigger audience that will be harsher with criticism than the diehard fans they have now.

I enjoyed the show but it wasn't amazing. Ladder match was extremely underwhelming (I'm getting sick of Cody and can't tell if I'm supposed to or not storyline wise), street fight was fun but commentary was unnecessary, and the main event was pretty hot until that laughable finish...though the one winged angel on the chair was nuts! For all the unscripted promo nature they should have had Kenny and Callis come out laughing saying "you really think we'd blow up a ring"?

As for the reveal, Christian can still go I'm sure, but I really wanted someone from NJPW or CM Punk. I know the latter will never wrestle again but one can hope.

              AEW Dynamite Thread

Would’ve been better if they had Eddie Kingston, instead of selling like he got knocked out in an explosion...lift his head up after the fact and be like what the hell was that...then have Mox say what he said after the cameras went off after he recovered for a few

Underwhelming theatrics at the end aside...it was a good show.

I hope they explain it on TV. Cover it up like Kenny says when he saw Eddie go and sacrifice himself, Kenny "called off the hit". If not for Eddie, Mox would've blown up.

Maybe bring in the explosives they did have planned and have Dynamite end with it? Mox in the ring, and just when you think it's all over, BOOM, fade to black.
Was it a malfunction? Pretty sure it went as planned and just looked like crap.

That was actually planned? That's worse than a malfunction then.

At the very least, why not have raining pyro and all 3 sides of the ropes explode? I thought when they said everything goes off after 30 minutes, they meant even part would go off.

Best thing would've been all 3 sides explode and the ring implodes.

Man, that booing hurts. Heard people defending it by saying it's not like they could legit blow the ring up. Fact is they were trying to recreate those Japanese matches, and those matches had crazy explosions at the end.

Also Meltzer defended Christian being the huge huge star because his name had been talked about, and somehow that means no one should be disappointed.

I kinda want to hear Cornette review all this just for the jokes.

I like Christian and feel bad for him that he was oversold by a company that’s clueless. Nothing wrong with his career but he should not have been sold like this for PPV buys like he was some huge signing.

I hadn’t seen anything until a few things started popping up on Tik Tok. Had no idea there was some ridiculous exploding ring thing. But man that just looks so stupid. I’m not sure what they were thinking.

                            Just saw that TikTok video.

Now I see what AEWs plan was.

The explosions weren't the thing that was supposed to wow people at the ending. All that smoke was gonna fill the entire ring.

Little explosions but LOTS of smoke would've still been a cool visual. That way you wouldn't have known just how many things went off, just see the ring covered in some giant smoke cloud, and when it all clears, you just see Mox and Eddie laying in the ring while the medical staff comes in.

It is an outdoor venue, how do you not account for wind?

Say what you want about WWEs overproducing things, but I'm sure they do test out all the stunts beforehand.
