But I do feel like it's a work. We just recently had reports of a meeting backstage and one thing addressed was leaking things to the media. Suddenly every last detail about backstage stuff is being leaked to the media?

We know AEWs fanbase is made up largely of "Internet fans", and AEW has an obsession with wrestling journalists, but they also want to add a realism element to their product. Isn't playing the dirt sheets and making fans believe things that are scripted are real part of that? Some of wrestling best stories have a realism element to them. Who knows if this is real or not, but it has me wanting to see what happens on TV, and isn't that the whole point of wrestling stories?

Or maybe it's real....after all, I was fully convinced the entire Cody leaving AEW thing was just a story.
Wouldn't the simpler explanation for all these points just be that nobody respects Tony as the boss?

I'm beyond disinterested in worked shoot storylines, especially when they are fed into by the newsletters. Tony Khan feels like the type who would want that level of drama. I just don't care about trying to decipher what is real and what isn't. I'm not interested in being marketed to as a "smart" fan. It just feels like a giant waste of time. What is the payoff? A worked wrestling match? Dumb.

I agree, it’s stupid. Seems like everything is is a “work” to the hardcore fans. Cody “worked” his way to WWE programming. To me, none of it matters if it’s real or fake because it’s all chaotic in my opinion. Seems like they took Biscoff’s advice and went extreme with it. Whether it’s fake or real, I feel like they missed every opportunity to blur storylines. CM Punk has heat with EVP’s but is about to start a feud with MJF, doesn’t make sense. Just like him going in on Hangman who is in a totally different program. Fans think there is heat with FTR and the Bucks yet they don’t have any real programs with each other. I mean it make sense for FTR to be teaming with CM Punk. MJF also has “heat” with Tony and how those other guys work. Has history with FTR but he’s about to be in a program against punk instead of drawling a line and joining him. It’s chaotic booking and as much as the smart fans talk about all of the long term booking there, the program seems to be for people with a short attention span and that is true for the ring work to the segments.

Tony Khan with every facial expression just screams... SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP! He just wants Punk to stop talking. The fact Punk brings up Colt's personal stuff with the lawsuit and Hangman unprompted is unprofessional.

The moment CM Punk beat Hangman at Double or Nothing, is when seemingly all the leaks began. I don't remember any of this backstage drama a year ago when Punk came in or the two years prior.

            Re: AEW All Out (9/4/22)

Here's the timeline of events from what I have gathered...

            1. Wrestling media begins reporting that CM Punk got Colt Cabana knocked off of television and potentially fired from AEW (beginning/middle of May).
            2. In the build to Double or Nothing, Hangman goes off script and goes into business for himself on CM Punk.
            3. Colt Cobana signs a new contract with ROH.
            4. CM Punk defeats Hangman at Double or Nothing, breaks foot at the following Dynamite, out for three months.
            5. First of August, AEW announced an expansion of talent relations, creating a middle management level.
            6. Punk returns, and he goes into business for himself on Hangman after Hangman didn't apologize for going off script in the Double or Nothing build.
            7. Media reports how big of a cancer Punk is in the locker room.
            8. Talent meeting where management emphasizes to stop leaking to the press and don't go into business for yourself.
            9. Tony Khan gives several interviews where he specifically says that Punk had absolutely nothing to do with Colt Cabana prior to All Out.
            9. Punk wins title at All Out, lays out his side of the story in his situation with Colt Cabana, completely buries Hangman, alleges that the EVPs (upper management) are the source of leaks to the media and buries them as well.
            10. Bucks aren't happy with Punk's comments, allegedly a fight breaks out between Bucks, Omega, Punk, and Ace Steel (AEW producer/Punk's trainer).
            11. Bucks and Kenny Omega are threatening to walk out.
            12. Brandon Cutler does not put out a BTE episode today. (lol)

If this is all a work, then this is some Vince Russo level of stupidity. Last night, our top heel returns and becomes the number one contender for the title that is held by our top babyface. But we're not talking about that. Instead, we are talking about this nonsense and have completely undermined what closed out the show.

If this is a shoot, then this explains why you can't have talent in upper management. Competent management would've squashed this back at step 2. But Hangman was friends with upper management, so of course, it doesn't get squashed. This situation is allowed to fester for three months...and it blew up in their face last night.

Now you're top drawing babyface is beyond unhappy. Had this been squashed back in the spring, things would've probably been okay. Instead, we're in an untenable situation ("we're past the time for apologies"). Who goes? We'll use last week's Dynamite as an example. Punk had the second highest viewed segment of the night (1.07M viewers -- Mox had the highest segment at 1.19M viewers to open the show). The Elite had the lowest viewed segment of the night, with the viewership of their main event match against United Empire going from 929k viewers at the start to 896k viewers by the end. The arrival of Punk to the company started bringing in the million-dollar gates, the PPV buys, the merch, etc, etc. The Elite helped start the company, but they seem more concerned about creating a vision versus making money.

            Or again...it's all a work.

SRS reported on the podcast that he heard the backstage fight included Kenny Omega, at least one Jackson with Ace Steel & CM Punk.

Nick Jackson got knocked out. Ace bit Kenny and that there was a chair thrown.

                    Re: AEW All Out (9/4/22)

I don't buy any of it. The idea that the root of this is was Hangman's promo about workers rights and standing up for AEW against Punk, and then after that they worked a match. The MJF worked shoot opened the door to this. Unless people think that was real? Tony Khan grew up on this type of stuff on message boards and reading the Observer.

Whoever. I think history tells us that Punk is more likely to be the negative influence, but every situation’s different so that’s for Tony to figure out. Assuming it’s real and most of the heat is limited to a handful of guys, I’d send them all home for the week to cool off, then see if they can move forward like professionals before doing anything drastic.

I don’t know…this makes me less interested in their shows. If it’s real, it looks bad for it to have blown up in public like this and now what, is everyone going to take whiny jabs at each other every week? If it’s a work it just seems so overcomplicated and stupid. Maybe I’m wrong though - is this kind of stuff really what wrestling fans want now?

For better or worse...Cornette has his take on the situation. "This isn't the first time the Bucks and Omega have been in the middle of something like this. But it's the first time it's been this public."
