Chicago Cubs: Breaking The Curse: 103 Years and Counting (The Show 12)

Theo Epstein is in and brings a new style to the Cubs.

(AP) Chicago- Theo Epstein is in, Jim Hendry is out. In with Epstein is his friend Jed Hoyer who also helped to break the Boston Red Sox curse and win a World Series. The Cubbies have gone more than 103 years without winning the big game and that can be attributed to many different problems; most noteably the Goat Curse. If you don't know about the Curse feel free to wikipedia the Chicago Cubs and you will get a plethera of information. The last time the Cubs looked like contenders the infamous Steve Bartman became a household name.

Epstein ruffled some feathers of Cubs fans right away by letting go of long time Cubs Aramis Ramirez (who was on the Cubs team that dealt with Bartman) and Carlos Zambrano along with others. In are relative unknowns such as David Dejesus, Ian Stewart and Paul Maholm.

This will be the story of the Cubs, win or lose, the Loveable Losers that they are, as they compete to become a powerhouse in the NL Central and hopefully win a World Series.

    Rosters: OSFM 1.5
Games: I play every game in the Majors
Notes about Roster: I added Junior Lake to the Roster as I couldn't find him. Signed Jorge Soler. This also means Michael Bowden will be a Cub and Marlon Byrd will be a Red Sox.

Trades: I left Roster Control to the Computer so that Injuries would actually take place, and quite frankly it adds to a little bit to the franchise in my opinion, never knowing who is going to be traded for what. (Even if they are unrealistic)

My Trades: I will do my best to follow the types of moves Epstein and Hoyer make and not try to steal from the AI if it is easy to do so.

Cubs get to Zimmerman early, avoid sweep
(AP) Chicago - The Cubs got their first win of the year and at the same time avoid the sweep by the Nationals. Jordan Zimmerman got shelled early and was pulled after the second inning. The Nationals pen was able to hold the Cubs from there. Samardzija was pulled after giving up a hit in the 9th inning for Castillo in order to save his arm and to avoid a potential nightmare scenario.

Cubs and Brewers go for Extras......Again
Chicago (AP) - If this is a testament to how the season will go, the Cubs are going to need a lot more pitchers in the bullpen. In seven games this season the Cubs have been in extras now five times, four of which have come in a four game series against the Brewers. The series was split after Alfonso Soriano came up with a clutch RBI in the 11th inning.

Chicago (AP) - Jeff Samardzija pitched brilliantly again and was able to shut down the Cardinals offense in his six innings of work. Darwin Barney highlighted the offense as he was the only player on either team to have an extra base hit, with two doubles.

Big 8th Inning gives Cubs Win
St. Louis (AP) - In the rivalry game that is the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals the game seemed very one sided in the early goings with the Cards getting up 3-0 with the help of two Jeff Baker errors. The Cubs fought back and had a 4 run outburst in the 8th inning with the help of a 2 run double from Joe Mather, who barely made the Cubs team in Spring Training.

Westbrook comes up big, Cards avoid Sweep
St. Louis (AP) - Jake Westbrook was given the ball against Paul Maholm in order to keep the defending World Series Champs from getting swept by their rival the Cubs. Westbrook didn't disappoint, giving up 3 earned in 7 innings of work and not to mention a 2 run base hit in the 2nd inning. The Cubs fought back after being down 6-0 in the 3rd and made it a game but were unable to complete the comeback.

Garza misses Perfect game by 1 batter
Miami (AP) - On the anniversary of Mark Buehrle's no-hitter with the White Sox he was once again on the hill, and there was a no-hit bid. Unfortunatly for Buehrle, it wasn't for him. The Cubs got to him early and often, forcing him to give up 10 hits and 6 runs in 3 and a third innings. Matt Garza on the other hand gave up one hit, and it wasn't to anyone in the starting lineup, Greg Dobbs came off the bench in the 6th inning and with two outs hit a ground ball just out of the reach of Starlin Castro.
