Sunrise In San Diego
With my Atlanta Braves franchise kind of dead and Scott's rosters on the horizon, I've decided to start over. I've always wanted to play with the Padres, I like the organization and what it has to offer plus I don't have to deal with all the other drama in the other divisions. I like how its just beginning its rebuilding project and I have the opportunity to take the project and make it my own. I plan on playing 1 game each 5 days so I can keep the stats down and enjoy it more while I control it from a front office standpoint.Last edited by royals19; 07-12-2012, 06:40 PM.

2011
2011 was a miserable year for the Padres. They scored 72 runs fewer than last year, more than likely because they dealt Adrian Gonzalez for a boat load of prospects to the Red Sox. However they did acquire future star Cameron Maybin from the Marlins at a small cost. There where a few bright spots, Heath Bell was good, Matt Latos was OK and Mike Adams was great. Not to mention Anthony Rizzo made his MLB debut. The Padres would finish the year at 71-91 which was good enough for last place.
2012
Fast forward to 2012. Heath Bell went to play with the new look Marlins, Matt Latos was dealt to the Reds in the off season for a multitude of prospects to the Reds, Anthony Rizzo once again was dealt to the NL Red Sox aka Cubs and Matt Adams was sent to the Rangers at the trade deadline. Coming into the season, the Padres looked to turn this ship around before they became the Astros of the NL West. And it started with a changing of the torch....

Re: Sunrise In San Diego
Before we continue on we must introduce this new "George McGovern" fellow.
Now George was born and raised on a tea plant plantation in the state of Georgia. His parents owned a beautiful plantation and wanted him to take it over someday, However, George took no interest in teas. He focused everything on Baseball. He would play with the neighborhood kids in a beautiful field his father had built in the backyard of their home in hopes that George wouldn't be able to resist the allure.
His father guessed right and George was out there everyday either playing with his friends or just looking at the field. When George reached high school, Scouts from all over flocked to see his golden left handed arm pitch fastballs and snap off curveballs. George was the ultimate machine. He was Drafted 1st overall by the Kansas City Athletics in the 1965 draft.
McGovern needless to say, threw 1 minor league inning before joining the Athletics. He dominated posting 400 strikeouts and a 40-1 record in his rookie year but apparently that wasn't good enough for the Cy Young as some punk named Sandy Koufax won it.
McGovern threw for about another 46 years posting over 90,000 innings in his career as well as posting 900 saves. However, he retired after 2011 because he wanted to run the show not be a part of it. "I made my bank, now its time to go home drive my Maybach. And maybe a scout will notice. " McGovern was quoted as saying in his thick southern accent.

Re: Sunrise In San Diego
It was a dark and stormy night. Two 1st round draft picks ate one last meal together before departing for their respective organizations. One was a tall lanky lefty with a killer curve and the other was a 6'6 flamethrower. Both had been best friends in High School and had formed one of the most anticipated duos since that duo down in Texas.
Originally posted by Max FriedWell Lucas have you decided?
Originally posted by Lucas GiolitoI don't know. I know I should've gone higher in the Draft...Originally posted by Max FriedWell Lucas, good luck with whatever you decide. I wish you the best of luck in your career.
However, Lucas had made his choice and he had a plan....

Re: Sunrise In San Diego
Conference Room A
The search for a GM PART 2
On a stormy day in February, George McGovern sat with the remnants of the old regime in a Padres Conference Room. Among those left were:
AJ Hinch-Vice President of Baseball Ops and Assistant GM
Jaron Madison-Scouting Director
Sam Ray- Assistant Scouting Director
While a massive exodus of Padres front office personnel flocked to Minnesota, a few faithful remained. Among them were clubhouse personal and a hand full of scouts who had decided to remain with the Organization. All in All, the Padres Baseball Operations department had gone from around 100+ to just around 20.
Originally posted by George McGovernAs I'm sure you've noticed, you are all that remains from the previous regime. Everyone here has had to step up in some capacity. Mr. Hinch I have been conducting the duties of all the Vice Presidents and a few of the directors in the previous days. However...
Originally posted by George McGovernOwnership has granted me a blank check to hire the best scouts, Vice Presidents and personnel in baseball. And I can assure you that you will be rewarded for your loyalty to the Organization. So everyone in this room, you can go ahead and add about a 10% increase to your monthly paycheck.
Originally posted by George McGovernNow back to business. Our organization has a few gaping holes and I wanted to take this time to assure you that we will get through this. Even with the recent struggles with the ownership, we will not let that hinder us.
Originally posted by UnknownThank you for allowing me to come in for my interview at this hour. It would have been a massive PR scandal if people knew I was going for this job.Originally posted by George McGovernNo problem kid. I usually stay at the office Monday through Wednesday. Would you like a cup of tea?
Originally posted by George McGovernLets hear your pitch..Originally posted by UnknownI trust you'll find everything is in order in my resume. I considered myself highly qualified for this position.
Originally posted by George McGovernYes, you ain't kiddin' when you said you was qualified! You are now at the top of our list for this job. We will interview a few more candidates but if you want it, the job is yours.Originally posted by UnknownThank you Mr. McGovern. I have to ask my family how they feel about this and I let you know in a couple days.

George McGovern's Rotation
The Search For A GM: Part 3
After just a short couple days, McGovern and the remnants of the Padres Baseball Ops department had found the pieces that they needed to fortify their front office. These where some of the brightest minds in baseball. These where McGovern's kind of people. George had come to know each of these men one way or another.
Originally posted by George McGovernGentlemen, you are the best that baseball has to offer that is why you are all here. Now I would like to take this time to ask you to join with the San Diego Padres Organization.Originally posted by DudeYour gonna have to float us a lot of money Georgey if you want us all to join your organization.Originally posted by George McGovernOf course sunny! I've got a blank check and I'm blowin every cent I got on you fellas.Originally posted by DudeI like your spunk George! I think this is a prime opportunity for all of us to form our own Dynasty! I think I speak for everyone here when I say That when we are finished with the Padres, it will be a dynasty greater than the New York Yankees.
"The Padres are officially beginning their journey to a Dynasty." Thought George McGovern.

Re: Sunrise In San Diego
1. Max Fried- The Standout prep pitcher from Harvard Westlake that was drafted 7th overall, Max is your prototypical lefty above average command. He throws a good 4 seam and 2 seam fastball a changeup and a curveball that he modeled after Sandy Koufax. All pitches figure to be plus pitches and combined with his frame, Fried Figures to be the Padres future #1. ETA: 2015
2. Jedd Gyorko- When the Padres selected Gyorko, they knew that it wasn't the glove they were after but the bat. Gyorko has a great bat and will be a solid addition to the Major League club. His defense however is worrisome as it is just average and some questions loom if he can stay at third base. The bottom line is that Gyorko will be an effective hitting force at the Major Leagues ETA:2014
3. Corry Spangenberg- Spangenberg was selected by the Padres in the 2011 draft because of his plus offensive skills. He has a decent bat and an unbelievable home to first time. Look for Spangenberg to be sitting atop the Padres lineup with Cameron Maybin. ETA:2014
4. Walter Weickel- Walter was selected by the Padres in the supplemental round of the 2012 draft. He is a good athlete and has the classic, Fastball, Curveball, Change combo. He has a strong frame that should allow him to reach his ceiling as a top of the rotation starter in the MLB with Max Fried. ETA: 2015
5. Casey Kelly- Originally drafted by the Red Sox,Kelly was sent to the Padres in the Adrian Gonzalez deal. Kelly has a good 90-95 mph fastball with great sink and two other plus pitches with his changeup and curveball. ETA:2012-13
6. Rymer Liriano- A top outfield prospect, Liriano has all 5 tools and should be an integral player in the future for the Padres. If he can stay healthy he has the ability to be an All Star Caliber Player. ETA:2014
7. Yasmani Grandal- Grandal figures to break cap with the Major League club after Spring Training as the starting catcher unless some freak thing happens he has all the plus tools to be a great catcher. ETA:2012
8. Robbie Erlin- Pitcher acquired from the Rangers in the Mike Adams deal. Has plus tools that will make him a good middle of the Rotation pitcher in the MLB. ETA:2014
9. Joe Ross- Acquired by the Padres in the 2011 draft. Hopefully he can take after his older brother Tyson who is currently with the Athletics. ETA:2015
10. Austin Hedges- Hedges is great catching prospect but will have to wait a little before making his MLB debut because of the Major League catching situation ETA: 2014

AJ Hinch and Jaron Madison enter his office
Originally posted by AJ HinchYou wanted to see us George?Originally posted by George McGovernYes I have a brilliant plan that will give this organization a lift if you will.Originally posted by AJ HinchWhat did you have in mind?Originally posted by George McGovernSince half of our organization just fled to Minnesota, I think we are entitled to a little compensation.

Miguel Sano will head to the Nationals.Originally posted by AJ HinchThis is insane! There is no chance this will work! And why haven't we brought in the new GM and Staff?Originally posted by George McGovernIt will work. We can't hire our staff and expect to get big compensation. Now as far as the deal goes, we will get Byron Buxton and Lucas Giolito from the Twins.Originally posted by Jaron MadisonGeorge, this could be the biggest scandal major league baseball has ever seen in this era. But I'm totally on board we have an opportunity and we should take it.

I do still plan on releasing the guide but testing some of my theories has proven to be majorly time consuming. I will probably have it done around Friday or Saturday due to the fact that the All Star festivities are starting. (YES!!!!)
I will be showing how I plan on developing all my prospects. The plans will be released in accordance with the story line.

The Office of Joe Torre
Compensation-Part 1
Joe Torre was a respectable baseball man who had loved the game all his life. He will probably be remembered as one of the greatest Yankee managers of all time. However, his relationship with the Yankees strained and the Los Angeles Dodgers hired him. He immediately built a contender with his influence. His time there would be his last and after he retired, Bud Selig made him the MLB VP of Baseball Operations. From his office, He watched every transaction and advised Bud Selig on which to approve.
Originally posted by MargeHere are all proposed transactions for today Mr. Torre.Originally posted by TorreThanks Marge.
Torre put on his glasses and flipped through all the pages, Minor League transactions, Free Agent signings, International signings. All of a sudden a piece of paper caught his eye.
One from the Twins and Nationals.
Originally posted by TorreMiguel Sano to the Nationals and Lucas Giolito to the Twins as compensation for Front Office shakeups? Sure... That seems about fair.

OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER
Compensation- Part 2
Bud Selig has made several very controversial decisions in Major League Baseball, such as the roof incident during the World Series. Good 'ol Bud was about to add to that list.
Originally posted by SeligMr. Torre what have you have had better be important I'm busy.
Originally posted by TorreHere is a compensation request for those front office blowups in Minnesota and Washington. Both teams approve it and it seems pretty fair.
Originally posted by SeligYeah sure whatever.
Torre went back to his office and phoned both teams telling them that the deal had been approved.
In San Diego, McGovern smirked as he read an article out of his Newspaper. "According to plan and right on schedule." noted McGovern.
