Crazy to see the AL West Standings so much like real life, with the A's dominating and the M's playing above .500 ball. Their record in any other division both A.L and they would only be a .5 game out.
With the exception of the Padres and Reds, the standings look really good so far. I'm hoping to see San Diego drop off.

Lee, Papelbon, Byrd, and Utley could bring back a solid haul of prospects for the future.
Yea, I'm debating how to handle trades coming up with 30 team control. I need to figure out how to price my players for some realistic trades come deadline time.

      Series #11:

      (16-15) vs.
      (14-17)

Game 1: It's getting ugly in the city of brotherly love. The team faced Toronto in a split-series, only to be trampled over and swept. The team was shutout by Brandon Morrow to start things off. To make matters worse, Cole Hamels left with elbow discomfort. Luckily, his MRI came back showing no tear, but the lefty will miss a considerable amount of time with a sprained UCL.

Game 2: Roberto Hernadez may have returned from injury too quickly, and was hit hard for the first time this year. Freddy Garcia continues to be a pleasant surprise, dropping his ERA below 1.00 on the season.

Game 3: Some people thought that a change of scenery would help the Phils' bats. Sadly, it was bad as ever. JA Happ scattered 7 hits and a walk for a complete game shutout. Ryan Goins hit a big home run in the sixth for some insurance, not that there was much chance of a comeback regardless.

Game 4: At least the bats woke up. Cliff Lee did not. The 35 year old allowed two more home runs, and still has an ERA over 5. Wil Nieves was 4/4 with two doubles and two RBI. Colby Rasmus hit a monster home run into the second deck in right and finished with two batted in.

Ryne Sandberg has called a press conference scheduled to take place tomorrow morning.

          Series #12:

          (14-21) vs.
          (14-21)

Game 1: In his first start since coming off the DL, AJ Burnett looked very sharp. The righty allowed just two runs on four hits in seven innings, striking out 6. Ryan Howard woke his bat up, hitting two home runs and driving in three.

Game 2: Matt Harvey struck out ten Phillies today, but took a no decision thanks to two Chase Utley clutch doubles. Justin De Fratus took his first loss of the season in relief after allowing an Ike Davis RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.

Game 3: Seventeen hits. The change down the bench from Sandberg is already paying dividends. Domonic Brown and Ryan Howard both hit two home runs, and Ronny Cedeno drove in three to help Philadelphia coast to a win and take the series.

When you need someone to place the blame on, the hitting coach always works haha.

Losing Hamels for the year could be huge. Hopefully it's nothing a little rehab won't fix.

I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

Hoping to get Hamels back in Early-Mid June. Not going to push it though, any injury to the elbow is scary.

                Series #13:

                (19-18) vs.
                (15-22)

Game 1: After a Chase Utley grand slam in the 2nd inning, the Philles were held hitless until the ninth. Ernesto Frieri was the cure to all their faults, loading the bases, and then giving up a walk-off two run single to Ronny Cedeno.

Game 2: Cliff Lee picked up his first win of the year, going the distance vs. the Halos. Chase Utley homered for the second straight game, and was joined by Jimmy Rollins in the 5th. Lee finished with just a Mike Trout home run allowed, seven hits and eight strikeouts. While it was a shortened series, the first sweep of the year still feels good.

Nice job breaking out the brooms. Hamels is probably glad to be going on the DL with all the loss's piling up. If you are not carefull Lee might try and join him.

                    Series #14:

                    (17-24) vs.
                    (18-22)

Game 1: What an odd finish today. Up one heading into the ninth, the Reds sent in the most fearsome closer in the game to finish Philadelphia off. Instead, the Phillies jumped all over him, loading the bases with one out. Darin Ruf smacked a single to left to score the tying run, which led to the removal of Aroldis Chapman. Sean Marshall came in, and went on to plunk Carlos Ruiz with his first pitch, allowing John Mayberry to trot home and score the winning run.

Game 2: A sloppy game here, with 4 of the 5 runs allowed by Phils starter Jon Pettibone being unearned. Johnny Cueto was sharp, striking out seven to move to 5-3 on the year.

Game 3: Homer Bailey doubled as a jugs machine to start this game, grooving multiple pitches early on. The Phillies would score five in the first, including back to back home runs by Domonic Brown and Marlon Byrd. Things became very interesting however, as Jake Diekman finally faltered. Papelbon saved the day, entering the game with the bases loaded in the eighth and holding on to a one-run lead.

                      Trade Announcement

The season may be early, but that doesn't mean teams haven't started to jostle for a better shot at a playoff run. The first trade of 2014 went down today, between two teams from the same city:

                      Receive:
                      • C Miguel Gonzalez

                      Spoiler

                      Receive
                      • RF Nate Schierholtz
                      • SS Jeudy Valdez

                      Spoiler

The White Sox have been a surprise team so far in 2014, jumping out to a 5 game lead in the AL central. While Adam Dunn is playing well (.250/.338/.515), the 34 year old is a career .238 hitter who is a liability in the field.

Schierholtz is a good fielder with a cannon for an arm, and will add versatility to the White Sox lineup. In 39 games for the Cubs, the 30 year old has struggled, which could be a factor in why he was moved so early. Schierholtz has a (.215/.307/.372) with 5 HR and hit just .189 in the friendly confines of Wrigley. A change of scenary could help a turnaround for a team that looks to be all in on a playoff push.

The Chicago Cubs, on the other hand, are already starting to sell. They are 12.5 games out of the central, with not much hope in 2014. Trading away Schierholtz does a couple things. First, it allows Junior Lake to move into a starting role in right field. The 23 year old is off to a great start, hitting .324 with 13 RBI in just 73 AB. Secondly, Miguel Gonzalez comes as the return. The Cubs are shallow on catcher prospects, and this move further cements the organizations status as a top 5 farm.

I'm not sure if any of you would like to play along, but I'll give it a shot. I'd like to hold "press conferences" about the team, league, farm system etc. and would like for anyone interested to PM me questions that the owner/gm/coach can answer. Start PM'ing away!! Or tell me this is a stupid idea, the choice is yours.

                          (20-23) vs.
                          (17-28)

Game 1: Carlos Ruiz hit his first home run of the season, a grand slam in the eighth inning. Ryan Howard hit two more homers and has really picked things up lately. Kyle Kendrick dominated six innings today, allowing just two hits and striking out four.

Game 2: Game two belonged to Miami, with Cliff Lee dropping his sixth decision of the year. Lee allowed nine baserunners and five runs in just 5.2 innings pitched. Sinker baller Henderson Alvarez really had his pitches moving well. Alvarez only struck out one, but held the Phillies to just five hits in eight.

Game 3: AJ Burnett had too long a leash today. Pitching a shutout entering the eight inning, Ryne Sandberg gambled, leaving Burnett in to pitch another inning despite a high pitch count. After loading the bases, second baseman Donovan Solano smoked a double down the line, giving the Marlins a 2-1 win, both in the series and game.

I'm liking what you have going here. You started with something based on my Twins box score-heavy approach and you've totally branched out creatively. I like it. Also digging the little embellishments like the retro logos.

Wait, Ben Revere hit a homer?????!? What? Huh?

Might I put in a request for Tony Gwynn Jr. to get more playing time? It seems like Gwynn is excelling and Dom Brown is struggling. Feel free to use that for your press conference idea.

Thanks, I'm a big fan of retro logos, figured it'd be a nice little touch. Revere smoked his homer, a no doubter 10 rows up on a hanging curve. I was stunned.
