    Series #15:

    (31-17) vs.
    (21-25)

Game 1: Josh Beckett is bouncing back nicely for the Dodgers, after many thought his career over following his flop out of Boston. Beckett threw 8.2 tonight, striking out nine and allowing no runners to score. Jon Pettibone was almost as good, but ended up with the loss scattering five hits and one run in seven.

Game 2: The Phillies offensive woes have returned, with the team getting just three hits today against Dan Haren and friends. Hanley Ramirez collected three hits, and Adrian Gonzalez would drive in both Dodger runs on a first inning homer. The Phillies were lucky this game was even close, as Roberto Hernandez was all over the place tonight.

Game 3: The Phils must've been pretty down on themselves heading into the final game of the series. In order to avoid the sweep, all they had to do is find a way to hit Clayton Kershaw. For those who forgot, in April, Kershaw threw a complete game shutout. Like last time, Clayton would strike out 10 Phillies. After throwing three perfect innings, the boos from the Santa-haters came loud and long. Jimmy Rollins would start the fun with a solo homer in the 4th.

Into the 7th we go, the Dodgers up three. After a couple singles to start the inning, Chase Utley would come in to pinch-hit. Utley turned on a 2-1 fastball, hitting a 3-run shot off the top of the foul pole in right to tie the game. Kershaw is human, who would've known? Marlon Byrd would hit another 3-run dinger in the same inning to win the game, helping Philadelphia avoid the sweep.

A White Sox to Cubs trade? What is this?!

That series vs. the Dodgers looked a little rough, but at least Hamels is on the return trail.

Did the umpire really call a strikeout looking on a pitch 3-4 inches below the bottom of the strike zone?

I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

There comes a time when all teams must get along. If the Yankees can acquire Stephen Drew, the White Sox can talk to Theo.

I vaguely remember a strikeout that was clearly a ball, but I don't think it was that far down. I strikeout so much though, they all blend together.

              Series #16:

              (23-28) vs.
              (22-27)

First, some housekeeping. The Phillies have designated backup catcher Wil Nieves for assignment, and will call up catcher Cameron Rupp to replace him. Rupp, 25, will make his major league debut tonight vs. the Rockies. The righty hit .252/.315/.393 in AAA with 4 HR and 17 RBI.

Game 1: The Rockies would take game one, after another losing performance by Cliff Lee. Lee, who falls to 1-7, surrendered four runs all in the 7th inning. Carlos Gonzalez struck out three times, but made his presence felt with a three-run homer.

Game 2: Despite a lineup filled with bench players, the Phillies offense came to play today. John Mayberry and Darin Ruf both homered, which helped AJ Burnett earn his second win of the season.

Game 3: Ryne Sandberg seemed to throw in the towel a bit early tonight, due to the fatigue in his pitching staff and the lack of command from starter Jon Pettibone. Instead, Freddy Garcia was thrown to the wolves, and saw his ERA rise from below 1 to 3.80.

              Game 1:

                  Series #17:

                  (20-33) vs.
                  (23-29)

Game 1: The Phillies started off a four-game series vs. the Mets in grand fashion. Ryan Howard led the way with two home runs and five RBI for Philadelphia. Roberto Hernandez looked solid yet again, allowing just one run on three hits. New York might be the worst team in the league right now.

Game 2: Dillon Gee struggled today for New York, allowing runs in three of the four innings he threw. The Mets as a team are slumping, and Kyle Kendrick was able to make easy work of the rotten apples. Ben Revere found the seats in right again, and rumors of PED's are circulating in the press box. While the center fielder has struggled most of the year, his two home runs this year are still mind-blowing.

Game 3: When things don't go right they don't go right. Matt Harvey faced off with Cliff Lee in what could have been a great pitchers duel. Unfortunately for the Mets, Harvey looked like he was trying to throw strikes from center field. The ace was all over the place, walking five in four innings, and allowing six hits. Astonishingly, he had to throw 35 pitches before recording his first out. Lee wasn't great, but was gifted a win to improve to 2-7. Ryan Howard went nuts in the series. He would have game 4 off, so his numbers for the first three games were 7/10, 2 HR, 6 R, 7 RBI and his average has jumped 36 points in the past week.

Game 4: Have I told you the Mets are bad? Because they're really bad. AJ Burnett picked up career win #150, throwing 7 scoreless innings. The Phillies picked up a big sweep, bringing them close to .500 on the season and still in reach of the first place Braves.

                  Game 1:

                  Game 2:

Nice game from Burnett and nice to always get HR #1 in the books.

You really roughed up Wheeler. He is bad in my Franchise right now too. I think he is like 0-6 with a ERA in the 8.00's. I wonder why. His rating and potential makes you think he would be better.

Def following this thread. Love playing with teams that are going to be a challenge and the Phillies def look like a big challenge to be undertaking. To be honest I would get rid of Cliff Lee and see if anyone wants to trade for him or is interested in paying for an aging superstar.

                        Other than that awesome job!

Rupp has been a nice surprise so far. Even the outs are clobbered. I don't expect it to keep up long term, he's nothing special. Wheeler was throwing too many fastballs, with not enough of them hitting the corners. If the Mets were smart they'd give him some time to refocus in the minors, right now his BAA is .307.

Thanks! Cliff Lee is really hurting the little trade value he has with the tough start. Hopefully he turns it around soon.

Did you manually control the draft for all 30 teams or let the CPU draft.

I like how the Cubs went back to back rounds after high potential SP's. Not really sure what the M's were doing taking a SP in Round 1, but if they were to trade Walker/Paxton/Hultzen, it makes since to grab a guy who could replace them.

Interesting to see the Dodgers go for guy's with less potential that are more MLB ready.

I really like your 2nd round pick, but I am a bit surprised by your 1st round selection. Are you hoping to convert him to a CP?

Looks like the 3B that Nationals took has the potential to be a really good player and is already almost MLB ready

I manually controlled it, going by each teams scouting. Some teams had some issues in that regard.

I probably timed my draft wrong by doing it last night, but it snuck up on me when I went to finish my current series. It was midnight and a few drinks were downed. My focus wasn't as there as I'd have liked. I did my best to go after teams biggest needs, though I may have missed on some picks. If I remember the Mariners in particular, their scouts had Arias as the highest (and only mostly scouted) player in their top 10. Chavis, who ended up being the 2nd round pick, was the only player with any foundation as to how good they could become.

Yea, I make a point for a couple of the contenders to go after players who were close. Amaya could debut by next years deadline and hold first base down for a long time.

He's a closer. I lumped all relievers together and labels them as RP, and all RP drafted in the first round are actually CP's. With Papelbon getting older, I need a closer down the line as I don't have one in my system. If I trade Paps this year, Bastardo or Diekman can fill in as a bridge for a couple years and then it's Tatum time. With only Jesse Biddle and Severino Gonzalez as prospects to consider down the road for starters, I wanted to make sure I took one here to deepen my pool. Ozuna should project as my #2 if everything goes right.

With Zimmerman's defensive struggles at third, the door is open for it to happen soon. They have to be thrilled with that pick.
