    Series #18:

    (27-29) vs.
    (29-28)

Game 1: Different team, same result. The Phils went into Washington and would break the tie with a three run 9th. Ryan Howard hit two more homers, and is racing towards the league leaderboard.[/I]

Game 2: Cole Hamels impressed in his first game back off the DL, throwing 5.2 innings as the team continues to work him back to full strength. Hamels allowed four hits and an unearned run, striking out four. Ben Revere led the offense out of the leadoff spot, driving in two.

Game 3: Jonathan Papelbon took the loss, thanks to a walkoff single by Ian Desmond. Wilson Ramos hit a double to start the tenth, and pinch runner Danny Espinosa would coast home on Desmond's liner.

      Series #19:

      (29-30) vs.
      (24-35)

Game 1: The opener of the series wound up going 13 innings, where the Phillies would take advantage of a tired Reds bullpen. Mike Leake lasted just over two innings, compounding the issue and leaving just Aroldis Chapman and J.J. Hoover in the game heading into the 9th. Chapman, a former starter, would survive three scoreless innings. Hoover wouldn't be so lucky. With the men on first and second, Carlos Ruiz would end up with the game winning hit, scoring Jimmy Rollins.

Game 2: Oh Cliff Lee. Fans patience is wearing thin with him. Lee didn't last five innings, and completely imploded in the fourth, surrendering all five of his runs. After being plunked in the first inning, Todd Frazier would earn redemption by crushing some insurance deep into left center.

Game 3: With the bases loaded, down by two in the ninth with just one out, Darin Ruf was primed to be a hero. The pinch hitter has struggled all year, but the skipper sent him out regardless. We'll see if that happens again. Ruf chased a 2-1, 100mph fastball and grounded into the dreaded 4-6-3 to lose the game.

It's still crazy to see you only 1 game back of .500 despite Lee's horrible season, Ruiz not hitting and Hamels injury and just 2 W's.

Howard and Utley along with R. Hernandez have done a really good job of helping carry the team.

Hopefully Franco and start strong despite the .255 BA in AAA.

I don't know what's gotten into Howard. Strikeouts are down, and he's been crushing everything. I can't see it keeping up, but it's been a really long hot streak. Franco should fit in nicely 4-5 times a week facing lefties at first and giving Cedeno a break at 3rd. It is pretty good timing for the Ruf injury as he's struggled all year and now I can get a good look at Maikel.

              Series #20:

              (38-25) vs.
              (30-32)

Game 1: The San Diego Padres, a team nobody expected to compete for anything in 2014, comes into this series right in the thick of a loaded NL West. Jedd Gyorko launched a two-run home run to lead the way for San Diego. Other than a Dom Brown pinch hit homer, the Phils offense was pedestrian. Once again, Cole Hamels was left without run support, and loses another game despite allowing just two runs.

Game 2: A crazy finish tonight in game two, after the Phillies blew a 5-2 lead by allowing five runs in the final two innings. Jonathan Papelbon labored to get through the ninth, blowing a save and leaving the team two runs down. Tony Gwynn led off with a triple to left, and would score on a Rollins single. With one out and Huston Street entering the game, Ryan Howard came to the plate. The hottest hitting in the league this month, Howard continued his craziness. With a 2-0 count, Street left a fastball up, and K-How blasted it into the foliage in center field. Ballgame over, the Phillies find a way to lose, and then win the same game.

Game 3: The Pads would take game three of the series thanks to some splendid bullpen work. Jesse Hahn, Andres Torres and Joakim Benoit would combine to allow just one hit in 5 innings, striking out 7. Looks like San Diego is a legit contender, but they have a very tough division to fight in for a playoff berth. One thing for certain is they won't be selling in July.

                Trade Announcement

As the MLB season moves into June, teams start to figure out what their role in the season will be. As roles become known, trades become more possible. Today, we see a trade occur between the Houston Astros and the Colorado Rockies:

                Receive:
                • SP Scott Feldman

                Spoiler

                Receive:
                • RP Tommy Kahnle
                • 1B Correlle Prime

                Spoiler

The Rockies are on the outside in the NL West currently, but are hanging around .500 for now. They sit 7.5 games behind the Padres for the 2nd wildcard spot, and are 7-3 in their last ten games. Even if you take Coors Field out of consideration, the teams pitching staff has issues. Feldman, a sinker baller, will help keep balls in the park for Colorado.

Coming back to Houston is reliever prospect Tommy Kahnle. The 24 year old righty has a 3.90 ERA in AA so far this year, and his holding lefties to a .178 BAA. He has a slider that digs into their feet and a nice change to keep hitters off balance. Kahnle projects as a future setup man for the team if he progresses like the Astros think he should. Correlle Prime is a long-term project, with a huge frame (6'5", 222). He will need a lot of work to become relevant down the road, and for now projects as a career minor-leaguer.

I have unfortunately had to endure a 22-inning game once and I don't think I touched my console for about three days once it was finished...and I had lost. Just remember that the opposing team was the LA Dodgers as well.

                      Series #21:

                      (26-40) vs.
                      (31-34)

Game 1: Despite leaving tonights game with a lead, Cliff Lee ended up with the no decision tonight. The ever inconsistent Brad Lincoln picked up the loss, with Darwin Barney providing a key triple in the 7th. Ben Revere picked up four singles to lead the Phillies, but was picked off twice.

Game 2: Jason Hammel was masterful today, going eight innings and allowing just three hits. Hammel had complete control of the strike zone, and a start like this could really jump start interest in him on the trade market. AJ Burnett wasn't sharp, but worked his way out of jams well. The righty surrendered no runs despite 9 baserunners in just 5.1 innings.

Game 3: Yawn. Pardons, I just woke up after dozing from last nights 19 inning snooze fest in Philly. The Phillies scoreless drought sits at 35 innings, with many fans wondering what is going on. Cole Hamels threw over nine innings of shutout baseball, in what was easily his best start of the year. Matching him stride for stride was Edwin Jackson. It took over 500 pitches before anyone could capitalize on a mistake, which unfortunately came at the plight of Jon Pettibone. Pettibone, who had been perfect in relief, grooved a fastball to Ryan Kalish. It was a no-doubt bomb, landing in the seats where a sellout crowd had sat hours before. The few hundred left quickly exited, knowing full well this team had no shot to answer.

It was awful, there were plenty of chances to score and both teams would find a way to not score. My original plan was to get the game in before last nights football game, and I didn't finish my box score until halftime.

                          Series #21:

                          (31-37) vs.
                          (40-29)

Game 1: The Philles took advantage of a very wild Kris Medlen today, and Roberto Hernandez was solid yet again. Medlen walked in two with the bases loaded in the third, and Freddy Galvis would single two more home to give Philadelphia the early lead. Due to the marathon game the day before, Philly's bullpen was in no condition to throw. Hernandez tried to stretch into the 8th, and was knocked around a bit there. He accomplished the task of giving the pen a night of for the most part, with Jonathan Papelbon picking up his 17th save. Marlon Byrd injured his leg in warmups and is day-to-day.

Game 2: Whatever rest the bullpen received in game 1, they lost tonight. Kyle Kendrick allowed ten baserunners over 4, though he wasn't the worst pitcher tonight. Jake Diekman had his ERA jump to 3.92, surrendering 4 runs and failing to record an out. Chase Utley provided the winning single in the 9th, and the Phillies upset the Braves for the second straight day.

Game 3: Bad blood arose today, as Dom Brown was drilled with a Mike Minor fastball early on. Brown would leave the game for x-rays, which came back showing a broken hand. Cliff Lee would show his dissatisfaction by throwing over the head of Freddie Freeman, resulting in words between Freeman and catcher Cameron Rupp. Cooler heads would prevail, despite no warnings being issued.

As for the game, Lee had his wildest game of the year. The lefty walked four, and allowed seven runs in just five innings. Ben Revere, who replaced Brown, would go 2/3 with a triple and steal to lead the Phillies. Yet the Braves bullpen would throw three innings of perfect baseball to avoid the sweep and keep a substantial lead in the NL East.

Due to outfielder injury issues in the minors, the Phillies will call up OF Aaron Altherr. The 22 year old is batting .271/.328/.376 in 58 games at AAA. Altherr is batting .389 against lefties and just .231 vs. righties.

I hate to say it, but for now this will be on hiatus. Due to the work already put in, I'm not done with it and may even try to get a game or two in this weekend.

Madden went from being a non-purchase, to a purchase but with just one or two hours a week and now I haven't put the show in my PS4 in over a week. The game doesn't come close to how good the show is, yet football is football and the Bills are 2-0. Fifa comes out Tuesday, which is where I knew this would slow down as nothing compares to online clubs of NHL (or not this year, stupid EA) and Fifa.

Thanks all for following along, it's been a lot of fun so far, and I'll hopefully be back in full swing by November. In the meantime, I'll still be reading along with all of you.

P.S. If anyone on PS4 is looking to join a club and has a unselfish style of play, we'd love to have you. PM me if so.

                                (33-38) vs.
                                (41-32)

Found time to play a couple games this week, ending this month long series. Thanks again for being patient.

Game 1: Joe Kelly had his best start of the year today, throwing a complete game shutout over the Phillies. Kelly allowed just five baserunners and struck out eight, outdueling veteran AJ Burnett. Burnett allowed just one run on four hits, also fanning eight batters. The lone run in the game came on a Matt Adams sac fly.

Game 2: Game two featured a heavyweight matchup between Cole Hamels and Adam Wainwright. Both starters threw well, but the Phillies would get the best of this one. Hamels improves to 3-5 this year, while seeing his ERA rise slightly to 1.83. If not for his early season injury, he'd be in the thick of the midseason Cy Young discussion. Philadelphia was able to scatter 11 hits, with four different players driving runs in.

Game 3: A heartbreaker today, as the Phils blew a lead in the twelfth inning, only to lose the game in the 13th. Jonathan Papelbon blew his 3rd save this year, ending a very dominant recent stretch for the righty. In the 13th, Jake Diekman failed to do his job as Oscar Taveras double to lead off the inning. After a botched pickoff attempt, Phillippe Aumont walked the bases loaded to try for a force at home. With the infield in, Yadier Molina slapped a single to right to win the game. After the game, Mike Adams was activated from the DL, and Aumont was sent to AAA to make room.

Game 4: Shelby Miller continued his solid 2014 campaign today, earning his 9th win of the season. Miller struck out six and allowed two earned this afternoon. Trevor Rosenthal earned his 28th save of the season, despite allowing things to get hairy. Ben Revere tripled to the game to bring the game within one and just one out. However, pinch hitter Jimmy Rollins struck out, ending any chance at a sacrifice.

                                Game 1:
