Well I messed up. Loaded the HR derby earlier just to get the screenshot and then quit out thinking I could just restart it. Nope, it's gone. I was looking forward to the derby, and now I can't see who even won.

      Trade Announcement

      Receive:
      • CF Denard Span

      Spoiler

      Receive:
      • LF David Lough
      • CF Josh Hart

      Spoiler

Thanks to some free time during the All Star break, the Orioles were able to swing a deal to add their Adam Jones replacement. Jones tore his labrum two weeks ago, and the team has struggled in center ever since. Coming to Baltimore is veteran speedster Denard Span. The 30 year old is on the final year of his deal, and should just be a rental for the Os. Span hit .252/.323/.350 with 11 steals for Washington in 94 games. Manager Buck Showalter said this afternoon that Span would hit leadoff for the team right from the start.

The Nats pick up a 19 year old outfield prospect in Josh Hart. Hart has struggled in AAA this year, hitting just .213 in 26 games and stealing only one base. He has some decent potential as a leadoff hitter by 2018. Also making his way down 95 is outfielder David Lough. Lough will provide some depth as Washington starts to look towards 2015. He has been in AAA all year, with a .260/.294/.370 and 44 RBI.

Re: Putting the Fight Back in the Phils - MLB the Show 14

Ok I've moved over to MLB 15 and will be playing on this version from here on. I'll be trying to update the rosters for players who retired but I can't say for sure who I've missed. Other than that everything should run very smooth.

        Series #29:

        (40-55) vs.
        (55-40)

Game 1: Is this 1994 or 2014? Tony Gwynn Jr did a great impersonation of his father, leading the Phillies to a 4-2 win. Gwynn went 2/3 with a homer, triple and steal, allowing Cole Hamels to earn his sixth win. Hamels was on point, striking out nine and allowing just four runners in 7.

Game 2: The Braves were able to squeak out a win in game two of the series. Both Mike Minor and Cliff Lee were shaky, with each pitcher lasting just five innings. Minor threw just well enough to earn the win, thanks to a quality effort from his bullpen.

Game 3: Pathetic showing from the offense today, as Luis Avilan made the Philly hitters look like minor leaguers. Avilan dropped his ERA from over 7 to 5.63 after allowing one hit in five and 2/3. AJ Burnett was perfect through four, but lost his touch in the fifth and earned the loss. Ryan Doumit earned the player of the week award, and was 2/4 with his 2nd HR of the series today.

            Trade Announcement

            Receive:
            • SP James Shields

            Spoiler

            Receive:
            • SP Roberto Osuna
            • CF DJ Davis
            • SP Josh Humphrey

            Spoiler

The Toronto Blue Jays want to be noticed. Quietly leading the AL East as the deadline approaches, Toronto management decided to make a move today to go after a title. The Jays acquired workhorse starter James Shields from the Kansas City Royals for two prospects and SP Josh Humphrey.

The Royals are throwing in the towel on yet another season, sitting 8.5 back and in 4th place in the central at (). Shields, an upcoming free agent, was most likely going to look elsewhere this winter. The top player heading to KC is 19 year old Roberto Osuna. Osuna, 19, was considered the #6 prospect in the Jays organization. Despite a poor start in A ball (2-9, 5.67), Osuna is seen as a future top 3 starter.

Also coming over in the deal is outfield prospect D.J. Davis. Davis is a speedster who is just 19 years old and very raw. If he wants to crack the majors, he'll need to work on his hitting game. Davis is hitting just .213/.286/.347 in 57 games this year at AA New Hampshire.

Humphrey, who's been in Buffalo all season, has been average. The lefty is 5-5 with a 3.90 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 115 innings.

James Shields is the story of the day however. Shields instantly becomes the #1 starter in Toronto. The 32 year old is 11-5 this year, with a 3.88 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 119 strikeouts. He has been very good vs. righty's and walked just 38 in 141.1 innings. With this addition, Toronto is certainly the favorite in the AL East and will make a good run when the playoffs come around.

Toronto is rumored to be looking for an infielder before the deadline passes. Starting second baseman Ryan Goins is hitting just .214. Some names being thrown around are Darwin Barney of the Cubs, Aaron Hill of Arizona, the Phillies Chase Utley and Mets starter Daniel Murphy.

              Series #30:

              (54-45) vs.
              (41-57)

Game 1: The Phillies were able to tee off on Tim Hudson a bit, collecting ten hits on the veteran over five innings. Tony Gwynn continues to produce, leading the way today with two hits including an RBI triple. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 24th save of the year.

Game 2: Madison Bumgarner continues to be unstoppable, upping his record to 18-1 on the season. Bumgarner, who started the All Star game for the National League, threw eight shutout innings. The lefty dropped his ERA to 1.54, struck out nine and allowed four hits.

Game 3: Cole Hamels' trade value took a minor hit today, as the Giants hit the ball all over the place. Hamels lasted just three innings, surrendering six runs on a day in which he had no control. Buster Posey hit two home runs for the Giants, and Pablo Sandoval launched a first inning grand slam that would provide plenty of run support for Matt Cain.

Game 4: The Phillies were able to earn a split of the series, as the team saw a much needed jump offensively. Casey Kotchman hit his first home run, a grand slam, to cap off a five run fifth. Cliff Lee wasn't great, but finally found some run support and picked up his fourth win of the year.

                (48-54) vs.
                (43-59)

Game 1: Wade Miley threw a complete game shutout to open the series, but that wasn't all. Miley also drove in two runs with an eighth inning single. AJ Burnett couldn't keep pace, giving up two runs to start the game, and earning his eighth loss of the year. Aaron Hill went 3/5 to lead the Dbacks.

Game 2: Roberto Hernandez was clobbered today, allowing double digit runs in his worst outing of the year. Cody Ross finished with seven RBI, a double and two homers hitting leadoff. Arizona racked up twenty hits on the day. Brad Lincoln struggled again, giving up a combined seven runs on ten hits over the past two days.

Game 3: Thanks to two costly Phillie errors, the Diamondbacks were able to complete the sweep and slide back into the mix for a wildcard spot. Cody Ross added three more hits, while the top five hitters in the lineup all had an RBI. Arizona took the lead for good in the fifth. Didi Gregorius was awarded a single when Ronny Cedeno failed to barehand an easy groundball to lead off the inning. Next, Bronson Arroyo reached after the Phillies were slow to field his sacrifice attempt. Later in the inning, Tony Gwynn misplayed a flyball in center, allowing a run to score. Casey Kotchman had all three Philadelphia RBI, and hit his 2nd homer of the year.

That's a rough, disappointing series you just had there. Hopefully you can bounce back quickly.

                      • SP Johan Santana

                      Spoiler

The arms race in the AL East has ramped up. Perhaps in a reactionary move to Toronto obtaining James Shields, the Baltimore Orioles have traded for Reds ace Johnny Cueto. Cueto, 28, is an impending free agent who the Reds knew they would not be able to keep past this fall.

Cueto has been great all year, with a 12-3 record on a terrible team. The righty has a 2.99 ERA and 96 strikeouts on the season. He will anchor an Oriole rotation that needed a top end guy. Also coming over in the deal is left handed reliever Manny Parra. The 31 year old has 50 strikeouts in 42.2 innings, and a 2.74 ERA. He will add some depth and flexibility to the Baltimore bullpen.

In return, Baltimore was able to avoid sending prized prospect Dylan Bundy in the deal. Instead, the Reds will receive 20 year old lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. Rodriguez is a four pitch starter with decent velocity, who has been in AA all season. In 23 games, Rodriguez is 6-10 with a 3.36 ERA. He has 57 walks to 116 strikeouts in 139 innings.

Also making his way to Cinci is Brandon Phillips future replacement at second base. Jonathan Schoop struggled in his first season with the team up top, hitting just .231 in 88 games. The 22 year old has eight home runs and just one steal in 2014. While Phillips is still in town, look to find Schoop in more of a utility role, splitting time with Zack Cozart at short and giving Todd Frazier some days off.

No promises on offense. It's a race to the bottom for my Phillies and the real thing. Happy to see you've started one back up as well.

I have all the deadline deals agreed to in principle and will get through them all hopefully in the next day or so. I tried my best to make this my own universe (not copying any trades that happened last year), but still focused on realism. I hope there aren't any big time blunders on my part, and I'm particularly interested in seeing what people think of the value I'm getting on my trades.

Thanks again to all who continue to follow, it's been a thrill to do this so far and I see no sign of it stopping for a long time.

                            Series #32:

                            (43-62) vs.
                            (37-68)

Game 1: Maikel Franco hit a game winning home run for the Phillies off Kyle Farnsworth in the top of the ninth inning tonight. It is the 2nd homer of his career, with both bombs coming this week. Jonathan Papelbon earned his 25th save of the season as Philadelphia prevailed 3-2.

Game 2:Cliff Lee struggled again for the Phillies, giving up three home runs and five runs in today's loss. Lee falls to 4-13 on the season, and fans have to wonder if Cliff has reached the end. Zach Wheeler wasn't sharp, but earned his fifth win of the year for the Mets.

Game 3: In what could be his last start as a Phillie, AJ Burnett threw five and a third scoreless innings to help the Phillies earn a 3-0 win in New York. Burnett struck out six and allowed just five runners to reach base. Carlos Ruiz crushed a two RBI double into the gap in the third. John Mayberry chased Mets starter Jon Niese from the game in the 6th with a mammoth home run.

                              Philadelphia Phillies Deadline Deals

                              • SS Jacoby Jones
                              • RF Travis Snider

                              Spoiler

The first deal of the day is one that sends AJ Burnett back to a very familiar place; Pittsburgh. Burnett had success in the past with the Pirates, and is probably thrilled to return in the midst of a playoff race. Burnett figures to be a four or five man after his trip down 76, adding depth to a very good rotation.

Coming back to the Phillies is infield prospect Jacoby Jones and outfielder Travis Snider. Snider will provide depth in the outfield, something the Phillies have lacked since the injury to Domonic Brown. Jones can play almost everywhere on the field, seeing time at 2nd, 3rd, short and in his young career. He has average ability at the plate, on the bases and in the field, and the Phillies could shift him to second base full time if he can earn a spot as Chase Utley's replacement.. The 21 year old will report to AA.

                              Receive:
                              • SS Jimmy Rollins

                              Spoiler

                              Receive:
                              • OF Tyler O'Neill
                              • RP Nick Hill

                              Spoiler

The Seattle Mariners found their leadoff hitter in Jimmy Rollins. Dealing with a season long injury to Brad Miller, the Mariners biggest weakness was easily shortstop. Miller's replacement, Chris Taylor, is hitting just .205 on the season. Rollins (.255/.291/.362) should be more patient in his leadoff role and could score a ton of runs batting in front of this potent lineup. His 18 steals have been a huge surprise.

Tyler O'Neill is a power hitting outfielder with decent speed, but lacks discipline and patience at the plate. The 18 year old is hitting just .221 in A ball, with just four walks and 24 strikeouts in 68 at bats. If he reaches his potential, O'Neill could become a 30 homer guy, but it will take time. Nick Hill, 29, should see the majors in September. The lefty has a 3.83 ERA and a strikeout an inning in AAA this year.

                              Receive:
                              • SP Ramon Hernandez

                              Spoiler

                              Receive:
                              • 3B Ryder Jones
                              • RP Derek Law

                              Spoiler

Roberto Hernandez has had a nice year for the Phillies, but that doesn't mean there was much value for him. Hernandez goes to help the backend of the Giants rotation, as Tim Hudson wears down due to his age. Hernandez (9-7, 3.39) should be the Giants fifth starter until October, where he should join the bullpen if San Francisco makes the playoffs.

Ryder Jones is very raw, and has an unbelievably bad K/BB ratio of 13.33 this year at AA. He has 4 home runs and 16 RBI in 150 AB. He will report to A ball, and best case scenario makes the Phillies roster by 2021, if at all. Derek Law has an ERA just under four, but a high 1.48 WHIP in AA this year. There isn't much buzz around the 23 year old, who will need to really work hard to make himself a career.

                              Receive:
                              • CP Jonathan Papelbon

                              Spoiler

                              Receive:
                              • CP Ernesto Frieri
                              • OF Chevy Clarke

                              Spoiler

In one of the bigger deals of the day, the Angels and Phillies swapped closers. Jonathan Papelbon settled down nicely for Philly after April, reaching 25 saves on a terrible team. Pap will try and help LA close the three game gap in the AL wildcard race.

The reason the Angels felt the need to make this move is the struggles of Ernesto Frieri. The 28 year old has 33 saves this year, but has blown nine more opportunities and has a 6.11 ERA on the year. His whip is at 1.8 and his batting average against is almost .300. Philadelphia must hope they can settle him down and want him to be their closer long term. Chevy Clarke is a switch hitting outfielder who is good defensively and has decent speed. Clarke hit .233/.305/.323 in AA with four home runs. The 21 year old doesn't have much power, but if he can get a little faster and work on getting on base more, he could be a nice outfield piece in a few years.
