Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)
I know right! Hopefully we'll get Vladdy back in the lineup soon. Might have to make some moves if the offence continues to struggle like they have this month.
I guess that's one way to keep this dynasty realistic!Comment

Roark Struggles As Tigers Take Sunday Rubber Match
The Toronto Blue Jays had high hopes when they signed veteran right hander Tanner Roark to a two year, $24M deal this past offseason. Fast forward three months into the season and the former Cincinnati Red was saddled with his eighth loss of the season after another rough outing - this time against the lowly Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers took advantage of an injury-riddle Blue Jays lineup, taking two-of-three from the American League East leaders. Detroit tagged Roark for five runs on ten hits as he was unable to escape the fifth inning. A three-run blast off the bat of Victor Reyes proved to be the difference maker for the Tigers, as they managed to hold the Blue Jays to just two runs on nine hits.
Billy McKinney represented one of the few bright spots for the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, as he leadoff the ballgame with his 11th home run of the season. Toronto's bats would stay silent all the way until the sixth inning, where they would add their only other run of the ballgame courtesy of a Teoscar Hernandez RBI single.
Detroit starter Matt Boyd picked up his eighth win of the season, going six solid innings. The former Toronto farmhand and current Tigers ace allowed just two runs while picking up five strikeouts in the winning effort.
The Blue Jays get a much needed day off as they head back to Toronto and prepare to take on the Tampa Bay Rays. Historically, the Rays have always proven to be a tough opponent for the Blue Jays, and it will be interesting to see what manager Charlie Montoyo does in an effort to jumpstart the Blue Jays' offence.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)
Blue Jays Acquire Frazier, Riddle From Pirates For Three Players
The Toronto Blue Jays finally made a move to get some help for their injury-riddle infield, announcing that they have acquired second baseman Adam Frazier and minor league shortstop [B]J.T. Riddle]/B] from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for third baseman Patrick Kivlehan, outfielder Derek Fisher, and infield prospect Otto Lopez.
Toronto has lost six of their last nine ball games and are hanging on to first place in the American League East by a thread. They'll hope that the addition of Frazier can help to offset the injuries to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cavan Biggio, Bo Bichette, and Travis Shaw.
Frazier has regressed in 2020 after a solid showing in 2019, hitting .239 with five home runs and 21 RBIs for the National League Central-worst Pittsburgh Pirates. The 28-year old looks poised to bring some veteran stability to an extremely young Blue Jays lineup, and can be expected to settle into a utility role once the Blue Jays recover from their slew of injuries. While he has gotten most of his playing time at second base, the versatile Frazier can also play third base, shortstop, as well as all three outfield positions.
Riddle, comes to the Blue Jays as a 28 year old minor leaguer. With the emergence of Cole Tucker, Kevin Newman, and pending arrival of O'Neil Cruz, the Pirates had somewhat of a log-jam up the middle. Riddle has yet to play in a major league game this season, but has put together a respectable .285 batting average with six home runs and 22 RBIs at the Triple-A level. While he isn't a headline acquisition, the Blue Jays will rely on Riddle to hold down the shortstop position while Bo Bichette recovers from a torn pectoral. As of late, the Blue Jays have watched both Logan Warmoth and Kevin Smith struggle to .182 and .185 batting averages respectively.
Headlining the package going back to Pittsburgh is outfielder Derek Fisher, who struggled in early season action with the Blue Jays and was optioned to Triple-A. While the 26 year old Fisher has yet to make it back to the big league roster, there is still some potential in the former Houston Astro. The left handed swinging outfielder has put together a .268 batting average with 20 RBIs and 5 home runs in just 97 plate appearances with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
Lopez, 21, may be the most intriguing player headed towards the Pirates as a result of this trade. Most recently ranked as the Blue Jays' 25th-best prospect, the odds of Lopez ever making it to the Toronto lineup seemed small. A natural shortstop, Lopez had the obvious roadblock of young slugger Bo Bichette ahead of him. The ceiling is high for Lopez, and it will be interesting to see how the Pirates develop him in the years to come.
Lastly, Patrick Kivlehan represents the third and final player headed to the Pirates - presumably for salary implication purposes. The 30-year old most recently launching his first home run of the 2020 season and has seen limited playing time with the Blue Jays as a direct result of injuries to both Travis Shaw and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. All in all, the numbers don't look pretty through six games for Kivlehan as he has struggled to a .143/.250/.500 batting line with just the one home run to his name.
In order to make room on the roster for their new acquisitions, the Blue Jays also announced that they have optioned shortstop Kevin Smith to Triple-A Buffalo.
The Blue Jays return to action tomorrow night at the Rogers Center as they welcome the Tampa Bay Rays into town. Expect both Riddle and Frazier to make their Blue Jays debut.

The Pirates are struggling and so is Frazier. Seemed like a good opportunity to try to acquire a player that can help the club offensively right now and provide some positional versatility when everyone is healthy again.Comment

Frazier Impresses In Debut As Blue Jays Sneak Past Rays
Newly acquired Blue Jays second baseman Adam Frazier made a splash in his first game with his new club, going 4-for-4 with a double while driving in the game winning run in the seventh inning.
Frazier provided the Blue Jays with just the little bit of extra punch that their lineup needed in order to put an end to their short two game skid. Toronto entered Tuesday's contest with a 3-6 record over their last nine games, partly due to a slew of injuries that have impacted the Toronto infield.
Danny Jansen and Billy McKinney both went deep for the Blue Jays, with Jansen's three-run homer in the fifth inning tying the game up and chasing Rays starter Yonny Chirinos from the ballgame. Both Chirinos and Toronto starter Matt Shoemaker struggled in their respective starts, with Shoemaker surrendering six runs and Chirinos surrendering five.
The Tampa Bay Rays were kept in the game by slugging first baseman Ji-Man Choi, who went deep twice with his ninth and tenth homers of the season.
The Blue Jays look to stay in the win column tomorrow evening against the Rays as they two clubs go head-to-head in the middle game of a three game weekday series.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)
Glasnow, Rays Shut Down Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays continued to struggle at the plate as Tyler Glasnow and the Tampa Bay Rays pitching staff dominated on Wednesday night.
Glasnow picked up his fourth win of the season with 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing just three hits while keeping the Blue Jays off-balance with a mix of upper-90s fastballs and devastating curveballs. Glasnow struck out six in the winning effort and Nick Anderson locked down his 21st save of the season despite surrendering a solo homer to Teoscar Hernandez.
Trent Thornton pitched well for the Blue Jays, striking out seven over 5 2/3 innings of work. The sophomore righty struggled with his command at times in Wednesday's outing, amassing three walks. Thornton was chased from the game - and subsequently tagged with the loss - after surrendering back-to-back home runs to Brandon Lowe and Yandy Diaz.
The Blue Jays will look to bounce back from the tough loss and hope that the offence wakes up in the rubber match of the three game series between the two clubs on Thursday evening. With tonight's loss, the Blue Jays and Yankees now sit tied atop the American League East standings as the Yankees ride a nine game win streak.

Blue Jays Come Out On Top In Pitching Battle
The Toronto Blue Jays got themselves back in the win column on Thursday night in a game that saw Blue Jays ace Hyun-Jin Ryu go head-to-head against Tampa Bay Rays ace Blake Snell.
The two southpaws battled it out over six innings before turning it over to their respective bullpens, who both put up scoreless outings. Both Ryu and Snell surrendered home runs as their only mistakes in the ballgame, with Billy McKinney's two run blast in the first inning proving to be the difference in the ballgame. Tampa Bay shortstop Willy Adames went deep in the third inning off Ryu to put the Rays' only run of the evening on the board.
Rays catcher Chris Herrmann nearly tied the ballgame in the seventh inning when he connected on a towering blast to left field off Blue Jays reliever Jordan Romano, but left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. made what very might well be one of the catches of the year. Gurriel Jr. scaled the left field wall and pulled back a ball that was destined to land in the Blue Jays' bullpen, preserving the lead for his club and squashing any hopes of a Tampa Bay comeback.
The Blue Jays head out on the road for a six game road trip against a pair of National League clubs starting with the woeful Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow evening at PNC Park.

Blue Jays' Bats Come Alive In Win Over Pirates
The Toronto Blue Jays' offence finally woke up against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 10-5 win on Friday night at PNC Park. The Blue Jays have struggled to score runs in the month of June due to injuries to some key contributors in the lineup.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Danny Jansen, and Logan Warmoth all went deep for the Blue Jays, who improved their record to 48-28 - good enough to take a one game lead over the New York Yankees at the top of the American League East standings. For Warmoth, his solo blast in the ninth inning will go down as his first career MLB home run. The rookie shortstop connected on a hanging slider from Pirates reliever Edgar Santana and sent it 417 feet into the left field stands to cap off a 10-run evenings for the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays got a solid start from Chase Anderson, who turned in 7 innings of work while striking out eight and surrendering three runs. The Pirates would add a pair of unearned runs against reliever Sam Gaviglio thanks to a pair of errors from Ruben Tejada and Teoscar Hernandez. Tejada, who was called up just a week ago, put together quite an offensive showing. The former New York Met drove in three runs with a pair of doubles as he looks to make the Blue Jays' roster decision tough.
The Blue Jays are expected to welcome back slugging third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. tomorrow afternoon. A corresponding roster move will have to be made before the Pirates and Blue Jays square off in game two of their three-game weekend series.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)
Blue Jays Activate Guerrero Jr., Option Davis
The Toronto Blue Jays' struggling offence is finally getting some help with the club announcing that they have activated young slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from the 10-day injured list.
Guerrero Jr. had been sidelined since May 31st as he battled an inflamed hip that eventually proved too much for him to play through. With the continuing absence of Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio, the return of Guerrero Jr. will be a sight for sore eyes as Blue Jays fans have watched their team struggle mightily at the plate.
In a corresponding roster move, the Blue Jays announced that the have optioned outfielder [B]Jonathan Davis[B] to Triple-A Buffalo in order to clear a spot on the 26-man roster. The speedy Davis has struggled through limited playing time with the big league club, batting just .159 through 44 at bats. With the fast and unexpected emergence of Billy McKinney, it was hard envisioning a clear path to playing time for Davis. He'll continue his development at the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate.
The Blue Jays look to string together their third straight win with Guerrero Jr. at third base against the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates and Mitch Keller, who will take the mound in hopes of avoiding his 13th straight loss.

Blue Jays Go Deep Three Times As Keller's Struggles Continue
The Toronto Blue Jays scored three runs in the ninth inning to solidify a one-run lead on Saturday afternoon as Pittsburgh Pirates starter Mitch Keller continued to struggle.
Keller, who saw his record fall to a dreadful 0-13, lasted just five innings against a Blue Jays offence that welcomed back young slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from the injured list. Guerrero Jr. didn't wait long to make his return to the lineup felt, as he absolutely clobbered a hanging slider from Keller in the top of the fifth inning. The two-run blast landed 440 feet away in the left field stands as the Blue Jays took a 4-0 lead at the time. Rowdy Tellez also went deep off Keller in the fourth inning, while an RBI single in the second from J.T. Riddle summed up the Blue Jays' damage against Keller.
The Pirates made things interesting after the Blue Jays got out to a 4-0 lead, scoring three times in the sixth inning thanks to a Jarrod Dyson solo home run followed by a two-run shot off the bat of Pirates first baseman Josh Bell. The three runs stood as the only offence that the Pirates would be able to generate against Blue Jays starter Tanner Roark, who bounced back from a rough past few outings and picked up his sixth win of the season with 6 1/3 innings of work.
With closer Ken Giles warming up in the Toronto bullpen in the top of the ninth inning, pinch hitter Reese McGuire erased any thought of a save opportunity with a towering two-run blast into the Allegheny River off Pittsburgh reliever Kyle Crick to put the icing on the cake for the Blue Jays.
Pittsburgh will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon as the Blue Jays look to pick up their fourth consecutive victory.

Re: A New Era | Toronto Blue Jays (MLB The Show)
McKinney Goes Deep Twice, Blue Jays Complete Comeback In Extras
The Toronto Blue Jays completed a three-game series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 5-4 comeback victory in extra innings on Sunday afternoon.
Billy McKinney went deep twice for the Blue Jays, including a solo homer to tie the game in the seventh inning and another solo homer that gave the Blue Jays the lead in the top of the tenth inning. McKinney has been one a tear at the plate recently, boosting his season batting average to an impressive .338 while launching his 14th and 15th homers of the season.
The Pirates were handed their seventh consecutive loss in the losing effort and did the majority of their damage early on in the second inning against Blue Jays starter Matt Shoemaker. Colin Moran and Kevin Kramer both went deep off of Shoemaker in the three-run second inning and a Gregory Polanco solo homer in the sixth represented the fourth and final run that the Pirates would put up on the board.
Shoemaker uncharacteristically struggled with command, allowing four runs on three homers over six innings of work. The veteran righty was only able to pick up two strikeouts while walking two. The former Los Angeles Angel has been a stabilizing force in the rotation for the Blue Jays this season but didn't look like himself early on today.
As for the Pirates, starter Jameson Taillon flashed some brilliant stuff, going six innings three runs on seven hits. The hard throwing right hander showed off some of his highly touted potential, reaching 99mph on his fastball while mixing in a devastating curveball in the upper 80s. Unfortunately for the Pirates, the Blue Jays would get to reliever Kyle Crick for the second day in a row, this time coming in the tenth inning. Crick allowed three runs in just 2/3 inning of work in Saturday's contest and faired no better on Sunday, allowing the game-winning homer in the tenth.
The Blue Jays continue their National League road trip tomorrow as they head to Milwaukee to take on the NL Wild Card-leading Brewers in a three-game series.
