First Half
Caton converts a 3-point play then after Massey and Caton trade jumpers, Frederick and Carroto trade layups as Maryland leads by three, 7-4, with just under 15 minutes remaining. Caton drains a 3pter and after Hinds converts a 3-point play and Massey makes two free throws, Frederick and Pleick trade short jumpers. Hinds cans 1 of 2 free throws then after Osborn and Pleick put in layups and Fitch sinks a short turnaround jumper, Newsom knocks down two free throws to pull Boise State to within four, 18-14, halfway through the first half. Zuzak makes two free throws and Boeckmann banks in a rebound to tie the game then Frederick and Norwood trade layups as the game is tied, 20-20, with 5 minutes to go in the first half. Norwood puts in a layup and Warsaw drops in a hook and after McGrain makes 1 of 2 free throws, Carroto and Warsaw each can two free throws. Hinds sinks a hook then after Warsaw and McGrain put in layups, Frederick drains a short turnaround jumper. Caton knocks down two free throws and after Dye nails a jumper and a 3pter, Esterkamp drills two free throws as the Terrapins explode and lead by 14 at the half. Maryland's Caton leads all scorers with 10 points and Frederick leads the Broncos with 8.

Second Half
House hits a hook and after Massey makes 1 of 2 free throws, McGrain banks in a layup on a fast break. Newsom sinks a 3pter then Warsaw and Newsom trade dunks as Boise State cuts the deficit to ten, 44-34, with just under 15 minutes remaining. Osborn converts a 3-point play and after Massey banks in a jumper, Newsom and Frederick put in layups. Warsaw makes 1 of 2 free throws then after Massey cans a hook, Warsaw and Newsom trade jumpers. Warsaw lays in a rebound and McGrain hits 1 of 2 free throws as Frederick fouls out after 2 quick fouls, then Newsom buries a 3pter and Byerson nails a short turnaround jumper to pull the Broncos to within four, 53-49, midway through the second half. Maryland is ice cold as Massey puts in a layup and after Newsom banks in a layup on a fast break to tie the game, Hinds sinks a hook to give Boise State the lead, 55-53, with 5 minutes to go. Caton puts in a layup and after Hinds hits a hook, Caton drops in another layup. Massey buries a hook then Dye lays in a rebound to tie the game and after the Broncos play for the final shot, Esterkamp misses a jumper and House misses the put back layup and we're headed for overtime tied, 59-59.
Overtime
Pleick flips in a layup on a fast break and McGrain makes two free throws and a layup then after Dye and Esterkamp trade jumpers, Newsom puts in a layup on a fast break. Bragg sinks a short jumper and Boise State starts fouling with 41.7 seconds to play then Caton cans three free throws and McGrain drains two more to ice the game.

Columbus, OH - The Ohio State University's AD today announced the firing of basketball head coach Thad Matta after the team went 11-19 overall last season and 5-13 in the Big Ten.
The AD also introduced the new head coach of the basketball program, Bob Knight. Coach Knight guided Boise State last season to a 27-7 record and an NCAA tournament appearance. Coach Knight's overall coaching record is 108-71 (60.3%) and was 76-47 (61.8%) at Boise State.
"This should be quite a challenge for me this upcoming season. Last year the Big Ten conference was one of the top 5 conferences in NCAA Division One and placed six teams in the last NCAA Tournament. This will be a learning experience for both myself and the players. With no scholarships available, I will have to get the current players adjusted to a new system." I like how the game juggles the top candidates for these jobs. For example, my coach was #2 for Wisconsin (top job), #1 for Maryland (#2 job) and #3 for Georgetown (#3 job). Had I turned down Maryland, I would have received the Georgetown job as the other coaches would have been grabbed by the top two jobs. I just wonder how the game determines this order, is it random or based on coach tendencies?

I think it is really cool that coach Knight is going to coach at the other coach Knight's alma mater. It reminds me of your last dynasty that started out at Army.
Is there any chance that you can provide a brief overview or recap of the Buckeyes' last season? It would be nice to know how many seniors (or starters) are leaving.

Both Maryland and Boston College had me as their #1 choice. I declined the Maryland job because I didn't want coach Knight to be compared to your coach while you are there.Congrats on the new job! Best of luck with the Buckeyes (except when playing the Illini)

I turned down the BC job because I saw the opening in the Big Ten conference, the RL conference that Coach Knight went to after coaching for 6 years at Army. He was, of course, the long time head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers.
The contract calls for 2 years.
There are a couple of differences between Coach Matta and Coach Knight. Coach Matta's offense was the motion offense playbook (flex offense for Knight). Coach Matta's offensive tempo was a little more up tempo (70) than mine (60). His defense was more loose (30) than mine (50).
Boise State, I think, returned all 5 starters and has an overall rating of 88. They are also ranked #10 in the preseason rankings, which will be posted shortly.If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.Comment

Last year's Buckeyes were a very young bunch. There was only 1 senior and and 3 juniors. Since there are no scholorships available, I'm guessing that the senior was probably a walk on. Two players also transfered to other schools.
