Wow, nice to see the Westcoast representing. 6 Pac-10, 3-WCC, 2 WAC and 2 MWC.

Yeah, looks like we have a pretty good shot at meeting them in the Sweet Sixteen, as we did a few years ago, as well, IIRC.

Yes, I figured you'd like that! Too bad the Big East only got four in! Villanova didn't even get in with a 14-4 conference record (of course, their non-conference record was sub-.500...).

BTW, for those inquiring minds who would like to see behind the black box, my team is a 96 OVR rating (best team I have had by a couple points, IIRC). The closest teams to that in the tournament are Virginia (94 OVR), Connecticut (94 OVR), and Virginia Tech (94 OVR). For reference, Louisville is a 90 OVR team and they beat me, unlike Connecticut or Virginia Tech, so OVR is obviously not everything. It's all about matchups, etc.

            NCAA Tournament - First Round

The #1 overall seed looked the part today as West Virginia (34-1) came out and thrashed Tennessee-Martin (15-16) right from the opening tip-off. The Mountaineers led 53-26 at halftime and won 92-42 over the hapless Skyhawks, who defeated Oakland in the play-in game on Tuesday to make it to the first round of the tournament.

Fred Joiner scored 15 points in the first half for the Mountaineers and scored 18 points overall to lead his team in scoring. O.J. Palmer had a great outing as he totaled 17 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Theron Dux used his time off the bench in the blowout to impress as he recorded a career-high 12 points and four assists. Happy Olson closed out the double-figure scoring for the Mountaineers as he hit all four of his shot attempts and ended with 11 points and three boards.

Senior guard Maris Lamkin led UT-Martin in scoring with 13 points. Fellow senior Dez Pilgrim added 10 points and four rebounds.

UT-Martin only shot 15/51 (29%) from the field and 2/15 (13%) from three-point range. The Mountaineers also forced the Skyhawks into 19 turnovers. UT-Martin only scored 16 points in the second half.

Tonight's matchup between the Mountaineers and the Skyhawks was actually a rematch of three years ago when the two teams also faced off against one another in the NCAA Tournament when WVU was also the #1 overall seed. UT-Martin defeated Maine that year in the play-in game to reach the first round and was defeated by West Virginia 80-45. West Virginia would eventually make it to the 2027 Final Four in the National Semifinals before being defeated by Texas Tech.

#9-seeded Mississippi State won their first round matchup against #8-seeded Fresno State and the Mountaineers will face off against the Bulldogs on Sunday.

Also as a Michigan man it's nice to see them make the Big Dance after missing it the last couple years.

Well that San Francisco matchup is looking more like a possibility with the Stags taking out the Gators.

However what excites me more is it looks like it's smooth sailing for #1 Virginia to the Elite 8 where they will most likely take on Texas. If they can win that one we could get that Final 4 matchup with you we all want to see.

Yes. To clear everything up, I was a WVU fan growing up (and still am). I went to NC State originally as a meteorology major, but I struggled a bit in some of the upper level physics, etc. classes and decided to switch majors after my sophomore year (meteorology is a very competitive field and without a good GPA things wouldn't have likely been good). I ended up transferring to UNC Greensboro and graduated two years later with my B.S. in Economics in May 2014. I still attend UNC Greensboro as an M.A. student in Applied Economics and have another couple semesters left of that (assume I pass my comprehensive exams coming up in a few days, which is no guarantee...).

Yeah, the UVA/WVU matchup looks very possible at this point. They're the best team in the tournament besides my own team and have a 100 shooting rating.

                          NCAA Tournament - 2nd Round

West Virginia (35-1) is headed to the Sweet Sixteen for the fifth consecutive year. Tonight, the Mountaineers handily defeated ninth-seeded Mississippi State 90-65. West Virginia led 50-30 at halftime and stymied Mississippi State's run to get within 12 points in the second half to defeat the Bulldogs (21-11) by 25 points.

Nile Stevenson led the Mountaineers with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. Fred Joiner paced the offense with 14 points and eight assists while Deno Woodards added 14 points and five boards. Armondo Whelchel also added 14 points and six rebounds from off the bench, and Happy Olson came off the bench to tally 13 points, six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. O.J. Palmer saw foul trouble limit his playing time to just 21 minutes, but he still totaled 10 points and seven boards in that time.

7'1" junior center Michal Rothbart was Mississippi State's most impressive player. Rothbart scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but his most impressive stat was blocks as he recorded a career-high seven blocks this evening. William Desilos led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points, four rebounds, and three steals while Luis Bozek added 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Mountaineers did not shoot particularly well (41%), but they made 10 threes and were deadly efficient at the foul line, making 26 of their 28 attempts (93%). They also outrebounded Mississippi State 41-31.

#4-seeded San Francisco defeated #12-seeded Fairfield tonight, and the Mountaineers will face USF, head coach James Frizzell's former team, in the East Regional Semifinals next week at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY.

Palmer has been getting into foul trouble a lot the last few games. Better check his temper coach lol

And down goes UConn. Now we just need someone to take out Louisville for you

Nice couple of wins in the tournament so far, going to be interesting to play against an old team in San Francisco. Good luck.
