Coach K (Rob) planning a comeback?

Coach Roberts could be seeing green again?

Nothing is imminent, but the rumors are swirling rapidly around campus that Coach K (Rob) could make a return as the head basketball coach of the JU Dolphins. Reports were made after several eye witnesses have seen Coach Roberts on campus the past few days attending meetings with Athletic Director, Alan Verlander. Both Verlander and Coach Roberts had no comment when asked about the reasoning behind Coach Roberts' campus visits.

Although these are just rumors (for now), one can't help but speculate on Coach Roberts return to the helm of the JU basketball program. Coach K (Rob) left JU with an overall record of 30 - 27. Although his win-loss record is definitely less than stellar, he was loved here in Jacksonville by fans and his players, and at 32 years old remains one of the nation's top 'young' recruiters.

We will continue to gather the facts and follow this developing story very closely. Stay tuned!

Ok, I'm going to try and start this back up again. However, I will be continuing with NCAA 10 (not 09 which I started this thread with.) I just wanted to keep the history that I developed with this thread instead of making an entirely new thread. So of course, some of the guys I had graduate in my NCAA 09 Dynasty are back in NCAA 10 as seniors. They will have one last shot at a post season birth.

                        2009 Season Outlook
Written by Rob, JU Dolphins Insider
                        November 2009, Issue No. 1

Coach K (Rob) returns to the JU sideline with a new look.

What does the return of Coach K (Rob) mean for the JU Dolphins in '09?

Well, he's back! So, should I reserve my tickets to the Final Four now? Ok, maybe not. Although I'm excited about the return of Coach Roberts, that doesn't automatically put JU magically back in the Final Four. Nor does it mean JU will return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1986.....it doesn't even mean that JU will finally have what it takes to beat Belmont.

What it does mean is that the JU men's basketball program is headed in the right direction. Kevin Roberts is one of the nation's top young recruiters and that should be reason enough to be excited about this program again. Although the lure to the Big East was short lived, it's almost a certainty that Coach Roberts may look at becoming a head coach at a bigger program sooner or later. I just hope that he puts the JU Dolphins back under the national spotlight before he leaves.

                        Players to Watch in '09

                        Team Leader

Now a senior, Ben Smith will look to lead this team to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1986. He is the unquestioned leader and heart and soul of this team. He is the team's best scorer and will probably lead the team in scoring once again this season. Quite simply put, this team will go as far as Ben Smith can take us.

                        Breakout Year?

While Ben Smith is the team's leader and best offensive threat, Aaron Hardy is possibly the team's best athlete. According to Coach Roberts, he also has the most potential. He expects this year to be a break out year for Hardy both offensively and on the defensive side of the ball as well.

                        Best Newcomer

Jimmy McMurrin could quite possibly be the team's best shooter this season. A Las Vegas, Nev. native, McMurrin also played for the Triple Double Elite AAU team, coached by former UNLV guard Tyrel Jamerson. McMurrin has a deep tie with JU as well, having played for the BranchWest Basketball Academy club team directed by former JU head coach Bob Gottlieb.

                        Schedule

The JU Dolphins will play 23 games this year. As usual, Coach Roberts has scheduled a tough non-conference schedule which includes games against UC Davis, Army, Washington State, and St. Johns, all schools which are very well coached. Also included are trips to 3 ACC schools in Miami, Boston College, and the season opener in Tallahassee against Florida State.

Glad you caught that. Yeah, I tried to schedule the schools of the peoples dynasties that I follow here. Both of your teams, rhs_rizzo's Red Storm, doncoryell's Army squad, smidger9's South Carolina State team, etc....

I can't believe I forgot to schedule James Frizzell's USF squad....but I do follow superjames1992's dynasty thread as well. I'm sure coach Roberts will attempt to call Coach Frizzell next year to be put on the schedule..

I do the same thing, but sometimes you can't fit everyone in, so I try an rotate the games around. I also try and get some home/away series going as well so I am sure Coach Dodge and UC Davis will be willing to travel to Jacksonville next year. Don't forget to put UNLV or San Diego State on your schedule as well. I know those will be to easy cupcake wins but it would be good to see Dynasty Josh and Franchises reactions.

Hey now...UNLV and SDSU won't be cupcake wins
