Re: A New League- The ABF

Well thanks to Lives handy features, I simulate the first half of every game, and play the second half. Unless its a game late in the season that really has no effect I will play every game. Usually in the Playoffs I will play 3-4 quarters. I play as whoever has possession when i enter the game. Updates tonight possibly, ive been hella busy.

          Scheduled Games, Wednesday, June 31

Los Angeles Buffalo (0-1) at (0-1) Memphis Pros
          7:00 PM ET
Normally, I would give this one to Memphis, but with Anthony Frey out with injury, Los Angeles might be able to steal a win, it all depends on how JJ Redick plays.

          Sacramento (0-0) at (0-0) Seattle
          7:30 PM WCT
This game should be pretty exciting, as we get a look at both these teams for the first time. Sacramento should look to exploit its great half court game, while Seattle will most likely look to control the break with Kwame Knowles. Regardless the defenses in this matchup should control the game, Spencer Hawes and Raef Lafrentz along with Bruce Bowen hold down the D for Sacramento while Seattle has DPOY Micheal Olowokandi and defensive guard extrodinare Kwame Knowles, as well as up and comer Oleksy Pecherov.

          Chicago (0-1) at (0-0) Houston
          7:30 PM CT
Houston will look to explode out of the gate with a big win, can Ricky Davis hold it down?

Late Surge Can't Buy LA Victory

            (0-1) at (0-1)

Memphis, at home but a bit banged up, took care of bussiness Wednesday night. Los Angeles looked flat early in the game, being outscored in the first quarter 27-16. Both teams warmed up and scored over 30 points in the second quarter, and Memphis hit the break up 57-47. Los Angeles failed to catch up in the third and hit the final period down by 15, 90-75. However the fourth quarter would be a hit for LA scoring nearly 40 points in a valient effort to win. Memphis couldn't hit a shot to save their lives, and LA hit an 11-2 run. Memphis got a run of their own when Hakim Warrick and JJ Redick got hot, scoring 8 unanswered points. Memphis held a 13 point lead with 2:42, but a big three would cut it to 10 points. 27 seconds later LA got another big shot to make it an 8 point game, followed by a McKinnis three ball to cut it to five points with just over a minute to go. Both teams went back and forth in the final minute, but poor clock management and failure to hit free throws cost Los Angeles a potential win.

Memphis started Troy Hudson at Point Guard, and slid usual Point Guard Torence Kinsey to the three spot, due to his 6'6" frame. Memphis coach Bob Hope said this; "We feel like Rodney was a good pickup in free agency, but we have to figure out how to use him, he was a good sixth man for Chicago last year, and we were hoping he could be our starter this year, but we can't have him out there if he can't contribute offensively. We need to figure out how to fit him in." Kinsey had 24 points and 4 rebounds, and shot 5/7 from downtown, he played 34 minutes. Carney played 17 minutes, scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, but shot just 1/5 from the field. Most of Carneys minutes came us a sub at the 4 spot.

Hakim Warrick recorded the leagues first ever triple double, with 15 points (all in the second half), 10 assists (all in the first half), and a whopping 18 rebounds, a career high.

I was really Impressed by LA's poise, Memphis (who I played as) got tired at the end, I would have subbed more, but the unit I had in was my only productive one. Redick hit everything, just amazing, and Warrick was an absolute beast, he had about 3 dunks that were amazing posterizations.

                      Wheres The Defense B?

                      (0-0) at (0-0)

ABF Teams average 84 shots per game and 99 points per game. Both similar to NBA averages. On Tuesday, Seattle and Sacramento wrecked those averages in a 129-108 shootout, that culminated in a Seattle victory. Seattle scored 69 second half points, after leading 60-51 at the half. Seattle started off the second half with a bang, at times leading by 25 points, before ending the third quarter up 96-79.

Kwame Knowles made his sophomore debut with a bang, scoring a game high 44 points, grabbing 9 rebounds as well. Steve Francis scored 20 points, on 7/10 shooting before fouling out in the third. Francis looked good coming off the bench, playing just 15 minutes though, mostly at point guard. "Steve is so physical, I don't think Sacramento was ready for hi, he just walked all over him, but at the same time he played to physical, and fouled out." Said Seattle head coach Luke Kinter.

Oleksy Pecherov added a double-double for Seattle with 10 points and 13 rebounds, as well as 4 assists. Rookie Joseph Walls made his ABF debut with a terrific 15 point, 7 rebound, 4 assist performance. Walls who is 6'8", was drafted as a point guard at the 5th overall, but played mostly at SF and PF in his 16 minutes. Star Center Micheal Olowkandi had a dissapointing game, with 6 points and 8 rebounds in just 25 minutes. Olowokandi (32 years old) looked severly out of shape and fatigued, and recorded no blocks.

For Sacramento Sebastian Telfair put up a 30 point performance, shooting 9/12 from the field and 11/13 from the charity stripe. SG Desmond Mason added a 19 point performance. After being traded from Chicago last season Desmond Mason averaged 15.3 PPG in 12 games for Sacramento last year. All-Star and ABF first teamer Raef LaFrentz played 34 minutes, scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in a weak performance. Gerald Green had a horrible performance, shooting 3/18

                            Prospects Update

Throughout the season, Prospect Updates will show up, as we try to show you the best talent for the up coming draft.

#1 Prospect- Edwin Ubiles- Ubiles a 6'6" SF at Sienna university who has announced he will go out for the ABF draft following his senior season. Ubiles career started at Sienna in 2006 when the trio that contained him, Alex Franklin and Ronald Moore. Ubiles senior season may just determine how high he goes in this years draft. At 6'6" he isn't tall enough to enter the NBA as a small forward, but the prodimantly short ABF will be happy to have him as a 3 or tall 2.

                            #2 Prospect- Jamarcus Green-
Green is another early bird for announcing for the draft. Green, a Senior at Arkansa, is a great shooter, but his dribbling and physical play need work. Green has been known to be a nagging perimeter defender, but his post play suffers, a good option for the zone defense though. If Green can stay healthy and keep his shot on target, he may be able to maintain a high position well into the season.

#3 Prospect- Brian Pettit- At 6'9" and 215 punds, Brian is a lanky dude. Lucky for him he can shoot. This LSU Center has announced his intent to play ABF ball next year early in the summer. Pettit may be skinny, but his ability to hit hooks and jumpers make him a good offensive threat. His poor defense will hurt him however. Expect his stock to fall drasticaly.

Philadelphia steals win from banged up Cleveland

                                (1-0) at (0-0)

It was a great effort and some lucky breaks that allowed a shaky Philadelphia team to steal a victory over the East's power house. The main big break was an injury to Sean Williams with 7:23 left in the game that sent Cleveland into a downward spiral. Cleveland had a 14 point lead before Williams injury, but an and1 play for Kelvin Cato knocked it down to 11. With 4:36 to go, Christian Beddiger hit back to back shots to cut the lead to 5 points, and at 1:57, Philadelphia captured the lead 104-103. Cleveland would have the ball with 9.5 seconds left, but newly acquired guard David Taylor would toss the ball out of bounds with 2.2 seconds left. Ronald Murray would miss two free throws with 1.2 seconds left and the rebound on the miss ran out the clock to seal the win 109-107.

"This isn't how I wanted my first game with my new team to go" said Taylor, who scored 2 points with 2 rebounds and a single assist. Taylor, who was picked up on July 31st to address the injuries to guards Eric Snow and Daniel Gibson, played for Sacramento last season.

Allen Iverson scored a whopping 40 points, 25 in the first, in his ABF debut. Rookie Christian Beddiger added 12 vital points for Philadelphia, helping clinch a victory in the franchises first ever appearance. Also adding in for Philadelphia was 18 year pro Cliff Robinson, who put up a surprising 20 points (Career High) and grabbed 9 rebounds, 4 of them offensive. James Jones added 14 points and 8 rebounds, as well as holding Donyell Marshall to just 11 points, none in the second half.

Sean Williams scored 17 points and 8 rebounds before being knocked out in the 4th quarter due to an injury that is yet unknown. David Wesley scored a team high 23 points for Cleveland and Rookie Rick Stewart scored an impressive 22 points and grabbed 6 boards. Damon Jones added 16 points.

Cleveland is projected as one of the East's best teams, but injuries could drag them down. The Lightning are already without starting point guard Daniel Gibson, and reserve Eric Snow, and an injury to their star player could hinder the team in the early part of the season.

"We need to find out what we are doing wrong that is getting us so banged up, whether guys just are not taking care of themselves or whether its something else, we need to change things" Said Cleveland Head Coach Art Burrell.
