Thanks for the feedback. I have played 2 more games, but I am working on a formatting issue with my results. Hopefully I will have that sorted out by tonight.

Yeah I will be doing that. Thanks for the congrats. I have a pretty solid team, but we are loaded with seniors so recruiting this season will be key.

          Kirby Sports Center
          vs.
          Lafayette (2-0)   Fairleigh Dickinson(0-2)

          Recap

Coach Mengel was riding a hot streak into his third game of the season. The team was responding well to his coaching, but also playing with great instincts. The Leopards welcomed in Fairleigh Dickinson and it turned out to be a rude awakening. FD blitzed Lafayette and jumped out to a huge lead. They led by as many as 15 before the Leopards even had a chance to breathe.
Senior PG Mike Scott lit up Lafayette. He was hitting shots from all over the court and really was difficult to guard. FD had a 31-23 lead after Lafayette was able to chip away at the lead for the remainder of the half.
In the 2nd half Lafayette was able to pick up their offense a little, but FD had all the answers. Scott finished with a game high 34 points and only missed 2 shots on the day. He was 12-of-14 from the field including 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Lafayette cut it to as few as 4 with just 30 seconds to play, but it was too little too late as the Leopards suffered their first loss of the season.

          Coach's Corner

"There seems to be one player that always lights us up. One player is knocking down shots from all over the floor or getting to the rim. It is starting to become a problem. We really need to focus on our defensive strategy more to make a team become more well balanced rather than their star scoring 40. Normally it is a guard of some sort so we will have to go back to the drawing boards with our defensive scheme. We might look into a new defensive set or something to really get our guys to lockdown.
Our offense really struggled. That was partially my fault. I didn't do a good job with the rotation today and some guys didn't get the minutes they are accustomed to. I thought Benbow did a great job today. He is really getting into a rhythm and gives our team a spark from the SF spot.
Wheeler didn't give us his 20+ points of the bench today, but we can't be reliant on that. Again the rotation wasn't properly executed and I will have to do a better job from here on out.
This was a good learning experience. It shows that everything doesn't come easy and just because you win a few games doesn't mean you are going to win them all and not face adversity."

            Coach's Corner

"Well that was a change from last week. We really had success on the defensive end of the floor for most of the game. However there was still one guy that went for 20+ against us. I don't know what the answer is going to be but maybe we are going to have to mix up matchups. We probably can't just go straight man to man with SG guarding SG, SF guarding SF etc. I think Benbow is one of our best defenders so I will have to throw him on who is lighting us up.
Wheeler really struggled today. He hit just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc, but I think our team really responded today. We didn't rely on him as much and it showed. The offense was spread around. While we only had 2 players in double figures, we did have 8 guys score which was good. We spread the ball around well.
Feels good to get back to winning after that set back last week against Fairleigh Dickinson. Now we have another test coming up next week with a tournament. It will show us where we are at and give us some experience with tournament style player. Good experience for the conference tournament and NCAA/NIT, wherever we end up."

Thanks. I am liking the format. I made the logo and bracket in photoshop since there isnt actually a Drake Iowa Realty Tournament. I thought highlights would give everyone a feel for the players and games a little better. Thanks for following. I just played the Duquesne game.

Lafayette Survives Duquesne in Drake Iowa Realty Tournament

                      Coach's Corner

"Wow, was that an ugly game. Both teams really struggled from the field. I think we shot roughly 30% combined. It was just a struggle for both teams on the offensive end, but sometimes you have to learn how to win when you aren't at your best and that is what we did today.
I think the difference was our 3-point shooting. We made three more 3-pointers than they did and really shut down Saunders after he had that hot start. We really clamped down after the opening minutes and played some solid defense. Although their poor shooting helped as well.
I thought we rebounded the ball really well. We were able to control them on the offensive glass, which really shut down their scoring as well. We do need to figure out how to get easier buckets when we are struggling from outside. Forty-six points isn't going to beat a lot of teams around the country.
Looking forward to the next round and hopefully bringing home a championship tomorrow. Win and advance, that is all you can ask for in a tournament situation."

                            Coach's Corner

"What can you say, sometimes the ball bounces your way and others it doesn't. This time the ball didn't bounce our way, but we gave them a heck of a game on their home court in what was supposed to be a neutral court tournament. I thought we battled out there and it showed that we will never give up.
We really had balance from all of our players on offense tonight. Everyone really got into the act and did their own thing. However, I think we play better when we have a go-to guy. Then everyone can feed off of that player as they can facilitate the others. I don't think we had that in either game of this tournament, but maybe we can get back to that next week.
Wheeler really needs to step up and get his shot back. He struggled once again from deep and his minutes are dipping because of those struggles. We have to find a way to get him more involved.
Krueser has been a rock for us this year downlow. We need to get him the ball more so he can make a few more plays.
This is a learning experience and a heartbreaking loss, but we really need to move on and try to grow from this experience."

Yeah it is from the 2008 season, but it was discontinued following this version. It is the best CBB game ever produced and so people have kept up with making rosters. Therefore I'm playing with the ones from this year. Thanks for following.
