BOARDMEMBER PICKS UPDATES

This year we had 2 guys pick the entire field of 64. (Matt314hew) and (Knickerbocker91) After Round 1, Matt has the lead by 2 games (9 misses vs 11 misses) Both players picked the VCU upset as well as the K-State upset.. Knick got the Iona pick as well as Florida, well Matt guessed correctly with GT beating the defending champs WVU.


MarvellousOne picked just his Sweet 16 winners and so far has 12 of his teams still left in the field.


Other Notables (3 players picked Arizona to win the NIT (CalBears,MarvellousOne,and Gloves) Delija66 and HockeyPlaya both picked #5 Maryland to win the NCAA.

Looking forward to seeing how everyone does.

Man my west bracket is all screwed up lol Dam Texas, Tennessee and Washington =( and Arkansas boy I really thought they had that W for sure....oh well lets see how my sweet 16 ends up after this next round.

ROUND 2 OF THE NCAA TOURNEY

GAME PREVIEW

Even though these 2 teams havn't played each other yet this season, they have several games in common. SMU beat Gonzaga 3 times, who BSU lost too, well BSU beat Fresno State 3 times, who beat SMC, both teams lost to Utah and both teams have wins over Santa Clara.

SMC is led by JR SG M Dellavadova (Avg 16.7 PPG) and SR SF R. Jones (16.5 PPG) the Gaels are Avg 76.3 PPG as a team.

GAME RECAP

Both teams shot the bell well in the 1st half, but it was SMC who was unstoppable, hitting 67% from the field as they took a commanding 46-30 lead into the locker room. Down by 16 points Coach Dezaron knew his team would have to play it's best basketball of the season in order to overtake the #1 team in the country. Instead the Gaels continued to dominate the Broncos on the Boards (31-18 Rebounding) and SMC team depth just ran BSU into the ground (SMC Bench scored 53 compared to BSU-10)

POST GAME COMMENTS BY COACH D

"You have to give SMC credit, they were the #1 team in the country for a reason. They play unselfish basketball. We did a great job of holding their top 2 scorers to under 10 pts, but the rest of the team stepped up and made baskets when they need too. They dominated from the FT line (17-20). It's hard to put the game on D. Wiley's shoulders and expect him to hit a 3pt shot for every basket they make just to try and get us back in the game. Having PG D. Field miss the game with a sprained ankle didn't help our rotation at all, and the bench just didn't produce as well as S. Hicks. Hicks carried us all year, but fell apart in the tourney (Avg just 8 ppg). All I can say is I can't wait until next year"

BOARDMEMBER PICKS UPDATE

So the Midwest Bracket pretty much killed our 3 contestants. Knickerbocker91 has taken over the lead with 9 of his 16 teams picked in the Sweet-16 still left on to play. Both Matt314hew and MarvellousOne have 6/16 teams left.

The Washington State loss was a huge blow to most brackets as well as Gonzaga and LSU's falling as well.

Matt will have a tough time coming back with only 4 teams remaining in his Elite 8 picks and only 2 of his Final 4 teams left (Duke and Saint Mary's)

MarvellousOne could jump into 2nd Place as he still has 3 of his Final 4 teams left (Duke,Memphis and Louisville)

Knick went with a upset in the S-16 with Kentucky beating Duke and the Wildcats then making it all the way to the Championship game. In fact he is the only one who still has both his picks for the championship game (Kansas vs Kentucky) left in the tourney.

So I have to go eat some lunch and head back into work. I might try and get the rest of the tourney results updated tonight, depending on what my wife's plans are when I get home from work.

I wasn't happy I had to go up against SMC. They played great and my rebounding was horrid, so I have to give them credit. They played like they were the #1 team in the country. To bad in real life they couldn't get so lucky. After watching all the upsets this year in the real life tourney, they are a team I would've liked to see in there as a #11/#12/ playin seed (instead of USC,UAB,. I think they could've surprised some people.
