Durant and Harden lead Thunder to game 3 win

DALLAS -- Even when he is off his game, Kevin Durant can still get the job done as the Oklahoma City Thunder closer.

Durant shrugged off a rough start and made a few key jumpers in the fourth quarter, helping the Thunder hold off the Dallas Mavericks for an 86-81 victory Tuesday night and a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference finals.

The Thunder star missed his first seven shots of the game, but his teammates kept going to him as he helped them erase a 10 point third quarter deficit and take back control of the series.

"He's our guy, he's going to touch the ball as frequently as we can get it to him," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "If he misses a few shots, he's not going to get deterred, he's not going to get discouraged. He's got the kind of will, he's going to keep going at it."

Durant finished the game with 29 points.

James Harden carried the momentum from his game two buzzer beater over into game 3, scoring 27 points off the Thunder bench including 5 of 7 three pointers.

Jason Terry also played well off the bench for his team, leading the Mavs with 22 points. Dirk Nowitzki had a bit of an off night, but still managed to score 19 points in the loss.

"We didn't really have a lot going in the second half offensively," Nowitzki said.

"In a game like this in your home arena, coming off a tough loss, you have to come out with anger and an intensity," Terry said. "We didn't do that."

Dallas will look to recover from two straight losses in game 4 Thursday night, as they attempt to tie the series before heading back to Oklahoma City for game five.

Westbrook keys Thunder to Game 4 win and 3-1 series lead

DALLAS -- The Oklahoma City Thunder jumped out an 11-0 lead to start game four of the Western Conference Finals.

While the Dallas Mavericks were able to recover and keep the game close, they never led in the game as the Thunder took a commanding 3-1 series lead with a 89-85 win.

Russell Westbrook game through for the first time this series scoring 18 points and dishing out 11 assists. Thabo Sefolosha surprised everyone in the arena scoring 13 points and Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 28 points.

"This was a defining moment in our season where we look back and say, 'Hey, that was the game,' " said Durant.

"We worked really hard these two games to win, and none of that guarantees anything for Game 5. We know that," said coach Scott Brooks.

Only two teams have come back from 3-1 deficits in NBA history without the benefit of home-court advantage in Game 7 -- Houston in the 1995 West semifinals and Boston in the 1968 East finals.

"There's no doubt it was a tough loss," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "If this loss did not hurt, there's no such thing as a loss that can hurt you."

Jason Kidd led the Mavs in scoring with just 13 points, Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitzki each had 12 points in the loss.

Oklahoma City will have an opportunity to close out the series and make the NBA Finals in front of their home fans by winning game 5 Saturday night. If the Thunder do make the finals it will be the first time since the team moved form Seattle. The Sonics appeared in the 1995-96 NBA finals against the Chicago Bulls and lost in 6 games.

NBA Finals await Thunder following 4-1 series win over Mavericks

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Kevin Durant stood at half-court wearing a hat celebrating the Thunders first trip to the NBA Finals since the franchise left Seattle. As his team received a silver trophy for winning the Western Conference, he looked as if he'd just been named the player of the week in November.

"This is nice for a day, but we set our goals in October to win it all. We haven't done it yet," Durant said.

The Oklahoma City star had his best game of the playoffs with 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals as the Thunder defeated the defending NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks 94-86 to take the series four games to one.

Russell Westbrook had 19 points and 6 assists, and James Harden chipped in with 17 off the bench.

The Thunder will now await the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls are currently tied 2-2.

"Any time you can get rest this time of year is a bonus," said Westbrook, "For us to close it out here at home is huge."

After losing game one of the series by 28 points, no one envisoned the series ending in 5 games with Dallas being the losers.

Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 21 points and Shawn Marion had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

"I just think we played hard and just couldn't come up with the win," Marion said.

"Their time has passed," Durant said. "We feel like now is our time to move on."

The last time the franchise made the finals, they were the Seattle SuperSonics, who lost to the Chicago Bulls in the 1996 NBA Finals in six games.

Bulls role players carry team to game one win

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Richard Hamilton has a lot of NBA Finals experience thanks to his time in Detroit. That was one of the reasons Chicago signed him in the off season, a move that payed off in game one of the 2012 NBA Finals.

Hamilton led a balanced Bulls attack with 18 points as Chicago took a 1-0 series lead by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 96-88 on their home court.

Oklahoma City led by 6 after one quarter, but once Chicago took the lead in the 2nd they never looked back leading by as many 15 points in the final quarter.

The mid-season trade that landed Dwight Howard in Chicago also payed dividends in game one, Howard wasn't the player who made it so.

Ryan Anderson scored 18 points off the Bulls bench and Hedo Turkoglu added 14 points in the win.

The Thunder managed to hold the Bulls stars in check as Derrick Rose finished with just 12 points and Howard only scored 4. Both players did play a part in the win with Rose dishing out 9 assists and Howard grabbing 13 rebounds.

"Feels good because it's the first game and we played well as a team," Rose said. "We've got a lot of work to do. ... That's one in the books. We're excited about this game. Tomorrow we prepare for Game 2, and I see ways we can get better."

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook did everything they could to try and help OKC avoid losing game one of a series for the second straight time. They each scored 29 points and Westbrook added 11 assists, but it wasn't enough to beat the Bulls.

"By and large, we've got to play better, just overall," said Thunder coach Scott Brooks.

Game two will be Friday night and the Thunder will be seeking to tie the series before it shifts to Chicago for games 3, 4, and 5.
