UC Davis finishes rough year, Looks forward to next

Davis,CA-Coach Ray Turner began his NCAA coaching career in 2007. It didn't go exactly how he planed, but he knew that it would be rough starting out. UC Davis finished the year going 7-20. Coach Turner said that, "This was a rough year for me and the kids. Were not gonna roll over and just give up though. I am looking forward to our recruiting class, and think we can make a strong push next year. I hope that the Freshman come in and fill the 2 great seniors we have leaving holes. We will be a veteran team, and I think that will help us." You can tell that coach is glad this season is over, but is ready for the next one. The Big West is a very competitive conference, and he hopes they can be at the top of it next year. More on the recruiting class will be coming up in the future.

Following. Like pfeifere said, UC Davis has some potential being located in California. The Big West is also a fun league.

UC Davis escapes Utah with a win!

Logan,UT-The UC Davis Aggies opened the 2008 season today. They traveled to Logan Utah to square off with the Utah State Aggies. The clash of Aggies as some of the fans were calling it. However, today the good Aggies came away with a win. The game was close throughout, as Utah State jumped out to an early lead, but State did not have an answer for Byron Ward. Ward led the UC Davis Aggies with 22 points, and he also hit some clutch free throws. With 1 minute to go UC was down by 6, and Coach Turner makes a bold move. He pulled Ward from the game and put walk-on Chris Flipovic into the game, the teams best 3 point shooter. Flipovic hit a 3, and he also scored on a fastbreak layup, before being pulled from the game with 30 seconds left. Still down one, Byron gets a drive dunk and slams it home for the and 1, and then the game becomes free throws. Coach Turner said after the game. "It feels good. I'm very impressed the way our guys handled themselves down the stretch. I think this looks like a very good team, and we will be able to compete." Tune in Thursday as the Aggies try to defend home court against Yale.

Aggies upset NC State in 1st round

Orlando,FL-The Aggies are off to a hot start to the 2008 season. They beat a power 5 conference school for the first time in a long time. The Aggies were led by the 3 headed duo of Byron Ward, Kenny Terry, and freshman Bud Daley. All 3 of the players listed knocked in 13 points. Another great success story is walk-on Chris Flipovic. Flipovic had 10 points in limited minutes in garbage time. Coach Turner did hint that Chris would start to receive more minutes however saying, "The kid has really impressed me. He hustles, works hard in practice, and it shows on game day." He also talked about Freshman Buzz Daley saying, "The kid is great. I knew on the day I went to visit him that I wanted him. If he keeps this success up for the next 4 years, he is going to make a living doing what he likes to do best." The Aggies advance to the 2nd round of the tournament and will look to knock off the Florida Gators.

UC Davis falls short to Florida, Beats #2 Memphis for 3rd place!

Orlando,FL-The Aggies of UC Davis fell short to the Florida Gators on Friday night, but that did not stop them from competing on Saturday. On Friday night the Aggies were pretty much defeated from the get go, as Flordia's shooting was to good. They fell to the Gators 69-54. Coach Turner thoughts after the game were as followed, "I was proud of our guys. They didn't just give up and they kept fighting. We know that we are not going to win every game we play. I want us to come out on Saturday and show up and win the game. We have a huge opportunity ahead of us in facing the number 2 team in the nation, and if we win it will look really good." Well coach, your guys did just what you asked. It may have looked like an NBA all star game with no defense, but they still knocked off the Tigers 94-85. Byron Ward led the team to victory scoring 26 points, also going 8-10 from the line. Ward after the game, "Oh this is the moment I was born for. I got to go out on the national stage and show off my game. Yes, I would rather be playing for a championship, but I have no complaints. We knocked off the number 2 team in the nation, and thats a pretty (Explicative) accomplishment. Thats 2 wins over power 5 conferences. The schedule dies down a bit now, and we will be back with you when the Aggies look to knock off another national power house in the Bruins of UCLA.
