The Career of Sean Powell (CH2K8)

Here we go! I've decided to give a CPU vs. CPU legacy a shot! I'm gonna follow Jukeman's Slider Set.
Don't worry! If you are following my NCAA Basketball 10 dynasty that will continue to go on. It's fun to play and I think I have a shot at the NCAA Tournament. College Hoops has the depth that NCAA 10 truly lacks. I pulled this game out the other day and completely forgot how deep the legacy mode was! So stay tuned to find out more about this legacy mode.

Long Island Signs Sean Powell as New Head Coach

BROOKLYN, NY - Today marks the new era for the Blackbirds. Jim Ferry has had several disappointing seasons since his arrival. His latest season was 10-19 (6-12 NEC). Meanwhile, Sean Powell, 27, was leading a small school in Pennsylvania, IUP, to victory in his first two seasons. IUP had 5 consecutive losing seasons prior to Powell's arrival. In his first season, he lead the team to a phenomenal 21-9 season and finishing second in the conference. Last season, they improved their record to an outstanding 25-5 and won the conference. It is going to be exciting to see what happens with the Blackbirds. There is talent on the team, but the talent pool of high school athletes is ridiculous! It is going to be an interesting season for Powell and the Blackbirds.

Michael Blassingame is a transfer and must unfortunately sit out this season.
The starters for this season are Martin, Goral, Ryan, Galbreath, and Kowalczuk. The lineup is pretty solid for the Blackbirds. However, there is a lack of a big man in the post, which could hurt them against some of the bigger schools such as Notre Dame and St. John's.

Thanks! I figured NY could help draw in recruits. It should be interesting to watch the first game, Notre Dame...

I would do a coaching one, but I don't have the time to sit through every single game, lol.

New York like California and Texas is typically a pretty good state to recruit from.

Good luck. It's been a long while but one of my favorite reads on the 2k forums when this game first came out was a Long Island Black Bird thread.

It's a pretty good state to recruit from, but it's not going to be easy to pull recruits. In my first year I was a little too ambitious, only landed one guy and he was from Arizona. The Blackbirds do have a decent team though, they have pieces to work with.

NOTRE DAME, IN - Today marks the beginning of the Blackbirds season and the Sean Powell Era. It was a disappointing beginning. The Blackbirds were in the game for most of the first half. They matched Notre Dame stride for stride until the Fighting Irish got a 10-0 run before the half. At half, the Irish were outshooting Long Island 55% to 30%. Unfortunately, the second half was not any better for the Blackbirds. The Irish added more defensive pressure, which resulted in more turnovers. The Blackbirds have a lot to improve on after this game. One of the many improvements is the control of the ball. 15 turnovers definitely does not help to win games. Another major trouble area is the shooting. The Blackbirds did not shoot well today from anywhere on the floor. There is a lot of room for improvement before they start their NEC schedule.

Player of the Game: Mani Galbreath - 12 pts, 10 reb, 2 stl, 2 blk

WEST POINT, NY - Today was yet again another rough day for the Blackbirds. They travelled to play Army in what was thought to be a good game. Army was not kind to their guests opening up to a 22-10 lead at the 10 minute mark of the first half. Long Island managed to rally back thanks to the help of Jalon Ryan. They put together a 14-2 run to catch up. This run helped to spring them into the lead just before halftime. The second half was similar to that of the Notre Dame game. Army put floored Long Island in the second half. Another contributor to the devastating second half was injuries. Both Mani Galbreath and Antanas Valiulis were injured during the second half. Thankfully, they have been listed as day-to-day but this is still a harsh blow early on in the season. Coach Powell seemed very displeased as he left the court tonight. Rumor has it that there will be a new style of play by Long Island come Monday. The stack offense with a 2-3 zone on defense does not seem to be working. Hopefully the Blackbirds can find success soon.
