Congrats to Dink for climbing "the mount" and winning the regular season title. Although we all know coach is eyeing the tournament title. Dinko's frontcourt really game to play, although it'd be nice if they snagged more boards.

Is there any chance the Red Flash could be a bubble team or do they need to win the tournament?

Pretty cool that both brothers got the regular season titles this year, finally. Makes for more good media stories.

The Red Flash's bigs have 2 problems: they aren't as tall as some others and they have just average rebound ratings. Getting stronger and taller players would help a lot. A lot more fouls and turnovers in this game than usual, which also contributed to lower rebounding numbers (plus both teams shot 60%+).

I think there is a very small chance for St. Francis to get an at-large, as we saw Jacksonville do that from the Atlantic Sun 2 years ago, but it's an unlikely thing.

Yeah it’s pretty difficult to get an at large bid as a small conference team in this game and I like that. I know last year my UC Davis squad was like 45th in RPI and I ran some tests to see what would happen if we lost in the conference tournament because I was curious and every time we missed the tournament.

I'm really glad you ran the numbers. That's good to know.

St. Francis is 23-6 this year - pretty darn good. That JU team that made it two was 25-6, so we're at least in the same ballpark. The Dolphins made the tourney final and lost to Stetson, so they would have finished 27-7.

Was messing around with AI generated imagery and other things and tried to get it to generate the brothers. I don't think it did a good job at all LOL. Gonna need to submit it some reference material and try again.

I kept saying "no hats, no hair, make them heavier" and it was like "ohh, let me add cowboy hats now."

                Player Spotlight: Jarrett Pressley

As I play games, I will take time to periodically spotlight some of the fictional players in my NBA. Today we are learning about Golden State’s 6th man extraordinaire Jarrett Pressley.

                College Career and NBA Draft
Pressley’s senior season at North Carolina was one to remember. Jarek Kickert was the star of the team and national player of the year, and Pressley orchestrated the offense, got Kickert the ball, and led the 4 seed Tar Heels to the national championship game where they routed Villanova 97-71. Pressley scored 8 points and had 7 assists per game for the champs and found himself as the 8th best prospect in the draft, the 3rd PG, and was drawing comparisons to Jose Calderon and Raymond Felton.

Ahead of the draft, Pressley was being mocked to the disappointing Warriors at pick #8, and that’s exactly where he was drafted. Pressley was expected to back up Steph Curry and run Golden State’s second unit, and he very quickly began doing exactly that.

                Player Overview

Pressley is the epitome of a playmaker. Like a dollar store version of Chris Paul, he can absolutely score when needed, but he is most at home when he is making things happen for others. However, this isn’t always via assists (as his career high is only 13), but in spacing, making the right pass, controlling the tempo, and getting “hockey assists” (the pass before the assist).

Pressley has been an ultimate team player and good soldier so far, having only started 7 games in his 4 year career as he backs up Steph Curry and runs the second unit, sometimes running alongside Curry. He’s only missed 1 game his entire career, showing high levels of durability and toughness and quickly becoming a fan favorite.

In his rookie season, Jarrett Pressley won Rookie of the Month twice and helped the Warriors improve by 15 wins and vault up from 14th to 4th in the Western Conference. Of course, he wasn’t alone as the Warriors traded for DeAndre Ayton and Jimmy Butler that year, but Pressley was a key part of that turnaround and Golden State’s 2021 NBA championship. Pressley ended the season as a Second Team All-Rookie, finishing behind Trevor Merchant, Ernesto Parkinson, and Dor Pettyjohn at the guard positions.

Pressley’s success continued as he won 6th Man of the Year in 2022 and 2023 and has overshadowed his fellow Tar Heel and 2020 draftee Jarek Kicker the entire time they’ve been pros. Kickert’s best season was his rookie season in which he scored 5.9 points per game, grabbed 6.1 rebounds, and added 5 assists – a respectable stat line. However, those numbers have only decreased over his career, falling all the way to 3.9 points per game this season. After starting all 82 games in 2020-21, Kickert has only started 9 games since then and it seems unlikely he’ll be returning to New York next year.

Pressley is also in the final year of his deal, but it would be ridiculous if the Warriors don’t lock him up long term and use him as the foundation of the next generation of contenders in the Bay.

                  2023-24 Regular Season Recap

The brothers seem to have an uncanny way of mirroring accomplishments and they did so again this season as they both won their respective regular season conference titles. Dinko and the Red Flash ended up winning by a commanding 4 games in the NEC, though it was within a half game with just a month left. They were truly dominant this year and are 23-6 on the season as well: an objectively great year. Oggy and Stetson also got the conference title, but it took every last day of the season for him to achieve that, doing so in dramatic fashion over Campbell.

                  Atlantic Sun
As the sun set on the regular season, we saw Campbell (-9 wins), SC Upstate (-4 wins), and North Florida (-5 wins) tumble down the standings and finish with very disappointing win totals. Lipscomb and Jacksonville once again finished in the top 4, but the story was none of those teams: it was the Hatters.

There are no juicy round 1 matchups and it’s expected that Stetson, Belmont, and Jacksonville all advance easily. The Belmont-Jacksonsille round 2 matchup should be a great one and it’s expected that Stetson faces one of those two teams in the final. A big question being asked in DeLand, FL is “if Stetson doesn’t win the conference tournament, is a 22-9 regular season record + conference title good enough to get an at-large bid?”

                  Northeast Conference
From wire to wire it was the Red Flash’s conference. Wagner is a good team and gave St. Francis their only loss, but Dinko’s boys haven’t lost in 2 months and are putting together the best season in his 5 year career and one of the best seasons the NEC has seen in decades.

Central Connecticut and Monmouth represents an interesting round 1 game, and neutrals are hoping for the 2v3 Wager and Long Island round 2 matchup. Long Island somehow went from neck-and-neck with St. Francis to 3rd place, dropping several games down the stretch.

                  Conference Statistical Leaders
The brothers dominated their conference statistics, finishing near the top of every metric, including the most important one: point differential. St. Francis won games by an astounding average of 13.5 points per game, while Stetson was a very respectable 9.7.

There are several noteworthy individuals to call out as leaders in each conference. For the Atlantic Sun:
                  • Ulrich Stivers was a beast for Belmont all year, leading the conference with 19.6 ppg.
                  • Former Oggy recruit Michael Rost, who rejected Stetson for UNF, led the conference in rebounds with 9.6 per game.
                  • Marquette transfer Perry Yeager doesn’t just score for Jacksonville, but also led them with 5 assists per game.

A few Stetson Hatters were worth calling out. In addition to Ray Rowe leading the conference in field goal percentage, Lennox Evertsen and Arnaud Dahi shot over 40% from three and Marko Nevill was second in the conference in assists with 4.5 per game and third in steals.

In the NEC it’s all about Tamsir Grady. The Mountaineers’ senior center is leading the conference in scoring and rebounding and has been fantastic this season. St. Francis doesn’t have anyone too close to the top of any categories as they have been a well-rounded team that saw different players step up game to game. The exception is when it comes to efficiency: Bobby Valdez leads the conference in three point shooting percentage and when it comes to field goal percentage, they have 3 of the top 4 and 5 of the top 8 players in the conference. This team only takes good shots and seems to make most of them. All this has culminated in the Red Flash having the 5th most efficient offense in the nation.

Reminder: I no longer play every tournament game for the brothers. In all post-season tournaments, I will play the first game, every other game thereafter, and any finals I make. So for the NEC and Atlantic Sun, I will play round 1, sim round 2, and play in the championship if I make it.

Top NBA Draft Prospects – 2024 NBA Draft

We’re less than two months away from the playoffs and about 4 months out from the NBA draft. Many NBA hopefuls are playing in conference tournaments next week and will also showcase their skills in March Madness. As we look toward the college postseason, here’s an update on the top ranked rookies and how they are faring so far.

The top 5 picks would currently go to these teams:
                    1. San Antonio
                    2. Orlando
                    3. Oklahoma City (via Miami)
                    4. Indiana
                    5. Cleveland

The means San Antonio could supplement Horace Wolfe and Raynell Ere (last year’s #2 and 3 picks) with Kansas’ Kordel Cleaves (playing him at the 3) or grab Arizona Wildcat point guard Roland Mayes to run the offense. This is no guarantee of long-term success or even all these players panning out, but it is the dream of every NBA 2K franchise player. It gives the franchise hope and a very exciting young core.

Looks like a good class of Power Forwards are about to enter the league. Can't wait to learn more about them!

Totally. March Madness is just around the corner and I am interested to see what they do there and if they can play up to their potential.

We also have a bunch of PFs who have underperformed in the NBA recently, outside of Jerry Sparks, so I'd love to see some of these guys make an impact.

I kept saying "no hats, no hair, make them heavier" and it was like "ohh, let me add cowboy hats now."
Holy cow this is hilarious. What software did you use? I love the cowboy hats personally. Very on brand.

I used Bing's Chatbot, which I think may be powered by Dall-E, since Microsoft has a deal with OpenAI.

And yes, I cannot believe the hats lol. I even said "NO HATS" and it just said "oh bet?"

February 29, 2024 Kennesaw State vs Stetson [Atlantic Sun Tournament]

The Atlantic Sun tournament kicks off with Kennesaw State and Stetson as the first of 7 games over three straight days. As it’s a 1 vs 8 matchup featuring the very strong Hatters nobody expects it to be much of a game, similar to what was seen back on December 31 or in their 34 point win last week. While nobody expects the Owls to put up a fight, seniors Antawn Collum (PF, 67 ovr) and Gerry Ramsdell (SG, 70 ovr) will want to end their career with pride and a fight and hope they can give the Hatters a good fight.

Brendon Pocius is still out with a back injury and it’s iffy as to if he’ll make it back this tournament. Oggy’s biggest task today: keep the team focused and get the win so they can move onto the next round. He wants to make it to the NCAA tournament for the 4th time in his career and they need to win this tournament to guarantee their berth.

The game started and it looked like the Hatters were going to run away with it. It was a very fast start, but after 6 quick points, Stetson’s pace didn’t slow but their scoring did. They missed 3 of their first 4 free throws and found the game tied 6-6. After a few more minutes of neither team getting meaningful defensive stops, the score was 13-13 and Oggy called a timeout to exhort his team to play better defense.

That seemed to work as the game slowed down and both teams were playing better defense for several minutes. An Arnaud Dahi three made it 20-18 for Stetson, but then the Owls went on a 9-2 run to put together a 27-22 lead. Stetson’s offense had gone from hot to pitiful as they struggled to execute and find good looks or make their shots.

With less than a minute left, the Hatters found themselves down 39-30 and the fans of the #1 seed team were not feeling great. However, things changed drastically. Largely thanks to Lennox Evertsen (who had an and-1, steal, and a dunk) the Hatters went into half down just 39-37 and were feeling much better about the situation.

After a pretty rough first half for Stetson, that first half run made a huge difference. Both teams were shooting about 50% from the field, but the Owls were winning the rebound battle 19-10. However, Kennesaw State committed 11 first half fouls and are fortunate that the Hatters couldn’t make most of their free throws. Surprisingly, Kennesaw State was making quite a few three pointers and were led by Niang who had 9 points and 4 assists. Jeremie Scott had 6 points and 6 rebounds for Stetson and Marko Nevill has been a boon defensively, causing problems for KSU’s guards.

In the second half, the game started back and forth for the first 5 minutes, as both teams ran up and down the court and matched baskets. At 51-50, Stetson started to go on a run.

The Hatters broke the game open with some high-flying plays.

First Ray Rowe got doubled in the post and kicked it out to Lennox Evertsen for a three, then Rowe came down and made an and-1 on the next possession and made the game 57-50. A few possessions later, Lennox Evertsen drained a three to extend the lead to 10 points: 66-56. It seemed like Stetson was finally in control.

The Hatters’ lead got as high as 15, but the final score ended up being 87-76. In the last 21 minutes of the game, Stetson outscored Kennesaw State by 20 points after being down by 9 with less than a minute left in the first half.

Lennox Evertsen came to life in the second half and finished with 23 points and was 6-8 from deep.

Niang was great for the Owls, going 3-6 from three and finishing with 21 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Antawn Collum had a double-double with 14 and 10.

                              • Lipscomb 69 – Gardner-Webb 68. The game went to overtime, where Lipscomb outscored GWU 4-3 to get the win. Jeremie Barisic had 19 and 9, while GWU’s Taurean Miles had 21 and 12 in his final game but was only 3-10 from FT line and possibly the reason they lost.
                              • Jacksonville 81 – Florida Gulf Coast 62. Perry Yeager had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists for the Dolphins, as all 5 starters were fantastic for the winners.
                              • Belmont 79 – East Tennessee State 63. Belmont only had 8 turnovers while forcing 16 and coasting to an easy victory over the 7 seed.

Really needed that 50-point second half to survive. Any nerves at the half on this thing getting dicey, or were you pretty confident you'd pull it out?
