Last season was a tough for Dinko, but somehow he still led the Red Flash to the NCAA tournament. He was relying on 5 new players and they had to ramp up on higher level basketball and learning how to play with each other. That makes three straight conference tournament titles but no regular season titles for the Dragomirov brother. With a rotation that includes no seniors but only two freshman his team should no longer have growing pains and is likely one of the more talented teams in the NEC.
Projected Lineup

There may be some changes like we saw last year, but Dinko has decided to slot 6’7” freshman Erwin Willingham at point, leaving Tanoris Houston as a rotation option off the bench. This makes the lineup the same except for point guard, but there is a deeper and more experienced bench this year. St. Francis will go 9 deep, with a balanced bench of a shooter (Valdez), backup PG (Houston), big man (Holman), and athletic wing Fernandez Markovic growing better after a redshirt season.
That leaves 5 players outside of the rotation: both junior PF Taj Hailey and senior C Von Felder were redshirted and the deep bench features familiar names PG Cassiano Djordjevic, 7’3” Geary Doss, and sophomore Tron Torbert.
Dinko now has two sharpshooters in Quick and Valdez, a solid and flexible guard in Willingham, and several players who are talented frontcourt players. Depending on how things go, Dinko could go with a small-ball lineup of a Willingham/Houston, Valdez, Quick, Diakite, and Thompson…though it’s not that small as four of the players are between 6’7” and 6’9”.
Season Projection
The Red Flash will be in stiff competition for the regular season title with the Long Island Blackbirds, with both teams looking significantly more talented than the rest of the conference. Now that Central Connecticut State has seen their core mostly graduate, the conference can easily be categorized into four tiers:
Good teams: Long Island and St. Francis
Competent teams: Wagner, Sacred Heart, and Central Connecticut State
Bad teams with a star player: Fairleigh Dickinson and Mount St. Mary’s
Bad teams: Monmouth, Robert Morris, Quinnipiac, and Fake Francis
Long Island features four very good starters in freshman Wilson Barrow (SG, 72 ovr), senior Germain Dalgarn (SF, 72 ovr), sophomore Dallas Perry (PF, 75 ovr), and junior Jeremie Lalugba (C, 73 ovr). While their bench isn’t as deep as the Red Flash’s, their starting lineup will be a handful. The Blackbirds were also projected to finish first last season, but found themselves in fourth place at the end of the year. Perhaps this will be the season that Greg Herenda gets them to the top of the conference.
Donyell Marshall and Central Connecticut State are not bad, but losing Tommy Victor, Walter Wheless, and Dana Ravello are a big loss for the blue devils who only bring back 1 starter in Russ Ba (PF, 69 ovr).
