BRONCOS UPSET #1 SPARTANS!!!!

The magical season continues for Coach Scott and the Broncos as Boise State pulls off the upset of the tournament beating #1 Michigan State (80-73).


BSU took a (41-35) lead into the half as the Broncos came out on fire hitting 7/9 from beyond the arc including a 3/3 performance from 6'7 walkon Junior Jeremy Plummer. .

The Broncos would continue to get scoring help from their bench in crunch time as SO Joseph Toole scores 10 pts hitting 2/2 from beyond the arc as BSU finishes the game 10/16 from downtown.

Freshman Dominic Nagata struggled to find open shots and picked up 3 early fouls but did manage to dish out 10 assists in the win, well Soph R. Len Bullicer was named POG as he finishes with a team high 15 points and grabs 12 rebounds for the double double.

Michigan State Senior Jamar Cornette came into the game averaging 18.6 PPG scored 28 points in the loss.


BOISE STATE WILL NOW FACE (26-9) #4 CAL IN THE SWEET SIXTEEN. THE BEARS BEAT #5 SETON HALL (91-90).

#1 Duke beat #8 Villanova (95-68) and will face #5 Wisconsin. The Badgers beat #4 Florida (93-78) to advance.

#3 Kentucky beat #11 Indiana (70-63) to advance. They will take on #2 Texas who beat #10 Nebraska (97-78)

WEST

#1 Georgetown survives upset city with a (68-62) win over #8 Iowa State. The Hoya's will face the Cinderella story in #12 Richmond who beat #4 Virginia (76-65).

#14 Western Kentucky also continues their magical season with a (92-87) win over #11 George Washington. WKU will now have to face #2 Louisville who beat #7 Xavier (108-60).

SOUTH

#3 Mississippi State defeated #11 Oklahoma (81-67) and will face #7 Cincinnati.. The Bearkats defeated #2 UConn (67-63). The winner will face the winner of BSU/Cal.

MIDWEST

#1 Tennessee rolled #9 Texas A&M (102-76) . They will face #4 USC who defeated #12 Boston U (96-77).

And to round out the final matchups it's #6 Miami FL beating #3 Maryland (80-77) facing #7 Georgia Tech. The Yellowjackets beat #2 DePaul (87-83).

BEARS END BRONCOS RUN!!

After hitting 10/16 from beyond the arc in their win over Michigan State, Boise State would manage just 3/15 against the Bears, as the Broncos fall (98-64) in their quest for a Elite 8 showing.

It was still a sweet season for the Broncos despite the loss as BSU is currently only sheduled to lose 1 starter and 2 players total of their 10 man squad.

Senior Cal Whitney led the Broncos in the loss with 14 point and 5 rebs despite playing limited minutes with 4 fouls. Foul trouble also found SF D. Andres and R. Len Bullicer as the Bears went to the F.T. line 39 times connecting on 30.

Cal was led by 7'0 SR B. Socwell who had a season high 29 pts, 7 reb and 4 blocks well also getting a huge night from Pac-10 POY Mason House. The 6'10 Senior entered the game averaging 21.7 PPG, and 7.5 RPG and came away with a double double of 25 pts and 13 rebs going 11/14 from the charity stripe.

What a special season for Coach Scott in his first year at Boise State! Best of luck in the next round.

It's been a pretty amazing year. Was sad to see it come to a end, but I got to be honest, I feel pretty good about my upcoming class and with 8 guy's returning as well, I think we have a chance at making another run at it next year too.

HOW IT PLAYED OUT

#5 Wisconsin beat #1 Duke (99-97), well #3 Kentucky defeated #2 Texas (89-66) in the East Regional.

Wisconsin then beat Kentucky to earn their spot in the Final 4.

#1 Georgetown ended #12 Rhode Island's run (70-67) then went on to beat #2 Louisville in a Big East showdown to earn their trip to the Final 4.

#14 Western Ketucky almost pulled off the upset over the Cardinals losing (76-74).


#7 Cincinnati beat #3 Miss State (72-61) to advance to the Elite 8, and then beat #4 Cal (79-71) to win the South.

#1 Tennessee beat #4 USC (87-84) and then beat #7 Georgia Tech (89-78) to earn their spot in fthe Final 4 vs the Bearcats.

Georgia Tech beat Miami FL (81-75) to earn their spot in the Elite 8.


Wisconsin beat #1 Georgetown (68-63) to earn a trip the the Championship and #1 Tennessee is joining them beating #7 Cincinnati (81-71)

Wisconsin is your National Champion after their came back from being down (48-34) at the half. The Badgers scored 53 points in the 2nd half for a (87-82) win.

Tennessee Coach was named Coach of the Year despite the loss in the title game.

UCLA JR Edwin Ireland was POY (26.9 PPG, 7.1 RPG) also Big Man of the Year

Was a great run, is most of your team returning?

4 starters return including my top 2 scorers. Only losing my starting PF and I have a 3 incoming recruits who I think will join the starting lineup or I could role with my 7'0 (3rd in scoring on the team)and move my current center to PF giving me a big lineup in the post and let the Freshmen come off the bench. Only bench player I lost was my backup PG, but I have a kid who was a Soph that didnt' get alot of PT and was unhappy. I thought he might transfer but he stayed. He is 6'6 so that will give my 2nd unit some size everywhere. I am hoping to land a walkon or 2 that could make the roster.

BOISE STATE ADD'S TOP-30 CLASS

The Boise State Broncos and Coach Scott just got better.. Coming off a Sweet 16 run with a win over #1 Michigan State, Coach Scott knew his team would be even better next year and it will be.

Coach Scott went into the off-season with 3 scholarships available and had his eyes on some top talent..

Scott is a big believer in keeping local talent here at Boise State and that's just what he did with the Broncos 1st signing. 3* Corey Toumou was this years Mr BB from Borah High School. Rated the #131 player in the #21 PF in the class.

4* SF EJ Malone was the #36 Overall Recruit in the class and the #5 SF in the class. The Mr BB from Medford Oregon never moved Oregon State out of his #1 spot but had BSU #2 almost all year, OSU however made a late offer after and Malone jumped at the chnace to join the Beavers.

3* SF JR Hipsher the Mr BB from Fairbanks Alaska had alwasy been consdiered the backup plan if Malone didn't sign but after a campus visit and a few more tapes, the coaching staff wasn't convienced and pulled Hipsher's scholarship offer. Leaving Coach Scott still 2 scholarships to offers.

First Coach Scott headed back to Cali where he had success building up the UCR program. 4* Vernon Rasmussen was the target. Listed at 6'7 207lbs from Stockton CA, Rasmussen was the #69 Overall recruit in the class and the #11 PF. The signing gave Coach Scott his first ever 4* signing...

"We are extremely excited to land Vernon. He is a amazing talent and we view him as a instant starter to our lineup. He had a great season this year in ABL putting up 12.6 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 1.1 SPG and 2.6 BPG and he showed the ability to hit the 3 ball (8/17 .47%). We are excited by those # because we believe he could play both the forward spots for us."

With 2 scholarships locked up, Coach Scott was orginially planning on looking for a potential backup PG, but when ASU failed to sign 4* Isiah Dilligard that left Phoenix native looking for a school in the final weeks of recruiting. Dilligard listed as the #84 player in the class and the #13 SF was a steal of the class. Listed at 6'7 and 196lbs, Dilligard is a future NBA talent, after posting 14.8 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.6 APG and 1.4 SPG well hitting 19/39 (49%) from 3pt over the summer.

He is a far better 3pt shooter then our current SF Soph Dannorris Andres, but DA has been a starter the past 2 seasons so it's going to be a tough battle to keep that starting role for a 3rd year. Even if he doesn't we expect whoever loses the battle to be our 6th man and first into the starting lineup if there is a injury"

DUKE #1 AGAIN!!

The Duke Blue Devils finished last year ranked #1 in the nation and got the #1 seed in the NCAA in the East and once agian look ready to make another run again as they 4 players in the Top-40 including 3-5* AA ranked in the Top-25. 6'5 SF E. Kim (#17), and 6'3 PG T. Alexander (#19) and 6'5 SF Happy Broereman (#25). Kim (New York) and Alexander (Vigiinia) were both Mr BB's for their states.

Georgia Tech however is close on their heals with 2 5* signings both in the Top-20. 6'3 PG C. Pierce (#10, Mr BB OK) and 6'1 SG L. Jacobson (#20, Mr BB TX).

well North Carolina settled for a pair of highly rated SG's in 6'3 Corsley Bell (#13 Mr BB IL) and 6'5 Tahj Jennings (#26 Mr BB FL)

#1 Overall and the #1 SG in this year's class was 6'5 Carter Maldonado (Mr BB CA) from San Diego. Marldonado turned down UCLA, USC and Cal but will stay in the Pac-10 signing with Arizona. He will be joined by 6'7 4* PF Happy McKowen (Mr BB AZ, ranked #70).

Boise State wasn't the only school to land a solid recruiting class, as San Jose State lands a future NBA prospect in 5* AA Kudus Bragg (#15 Overall/#11 SG) along with a trio of 3* ranked in the Top-300

Hawaii landed 4* PG Monty Dearmon (Hawaii's Mr BB, ranked #35 Overall/#9 PG)


Nevada landed 6'10 Center Reid Monterimas (Rated a 4* and #33 Overall and the #1 center in the class)

BOISE STATE BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDE

Coach Scott and the Broncos coming off a Elite 8 loss to Cal ended the season with a school best 25 wins and a WAC regular season and conference tournament title.

With only 2 seniors gone from that 25 win squad and a Top-30 recruiting class coming in, Bronco fans packed the Blue and Orange game.

Coach Scott didn't just add 3 very talented Freshman to the squad via scholarships but also added a additional 2 via walkon status.

3* Roburt Peikkola is from Memphis Tennessee. Listed as a 6'4 SG, Peikkola was rated #221 Overall and the #68 SG in the class.

3* Domonic Lang is from Australia and also is a 6'4 SG.

Coach Scott decided the best plan of action as to run it returners vs Freshman as Peikkola and Lang join Dillgard, Toumou and Rasmussen on the Orange team well Dominic Nagata, Ralph Cowans, Dannorris Andres, Randall Len Bullicer and Jesus Kennedy got the start for the Blue team, leaving Joseph Toole, Vic Robinson as reserves for the Orange and Jeremy Plummer as a reserve for the Blue.

The upperclassman end up winning the game but all 5 Freshman showed flashes of potential with Rasmussen and Dilligard leading the way with 13 points a piece. Jesus Kennedy the 7'0 lone Senior on this year's squad led the Blue team and all scorers with 18 points proving that he very well should be in the starting lineup. Dominic Nagata and Len Bullicer each added 10 points in the win.

With 13 players, Coach Scott knew he wanted to redshirt at least 3 and when it came time that's exactly what he did as Freshman PF Cory Toumou and SG Dominic Lang will join Soph PF Vvtas Robinson. Robinson saw action in all 35 games last year totally 418 minutes and averaged 4.5 PPG.

The Broncos kickoff the year with 4 straight home games including a rematch with Portland State who shocked the Broncos in their season opener last season. BSU will then play 3 straight road games including a rematch with Gonzaga who the Broncos beat inside the Kennel last year in Spokane as well as a rematch with Cal who beat the Broncos in the Elite 8 last season. Then it's 2 more home games before finishing out the 13 game non-conference schedule with 4 straight road games including a Christmas weekend matchup @ UCLA who Coach Scott has beaten well at UCR.

Boise State (80 Overall) will then kickoff WAC play starting with Fresno State at home. BSU once again is picked to finish 5th in the WAC despite winning the conference last season.

Nevada (83 Overall) is the favorite to win with JR PF C. Wilson (81 Overall) "Best Overall and Defender" and 7'0 Freshman Center R. Montrimas (78 Overall) "Best Freshman and Pro Prospect"

BRONCOS START YEAR 4-0!!!

Boise State took full advantage to a 4 game home stand kicking off the 2010-2011 season with 4 straight wins including a rematch win over Portland State and a win over Coach Scott's former team in UC Riverside.

Here is a look at each game.

NORTHERN COLORADO (FINAL 98-59)

The Broncos finished just 1 bucket shy of hitting 100 after scoring 50 points in the 1st half. BSU shot a amazing 10/24 from 3pt including a 4/6 performance by SR J. Plummer who led the bench with 17 points.

Fellow Senior Jesus Kennedy led all scorers with 20 points and 7 rebounds well PG R. Cowans added 14 pts and 5 assists.

PORTLAND STATE (FINAL 92-66)

5 players scored in double digits well the Broncos closed in on 100 yet again despite only 8/22 from 3pt. BSU was led by JR PF R. Len Bullicer "The Frenchman" with 17 points and 8 rebounds well PG R. Cowans (14 pts 9 assists) and Jesus Kennedy (12 pts 5 rebs) also hit double digits again.

Off the bench it was Freshman R. Pekkola (12 pts 2/5 3pt) and I. Dilligard (10 pts 5 reb 3 blks) leading the way for the 2nd unit.

**Injury update FR PF V. Rasumussen played just 4 minutes after breaking his wrist. He is expected to miss the next 3 weeks, as Coach Scott goes to a 9 man rotation.**

PORLTAND (FINAL SCORE 69-68

The Pilots came close to pulling off the "W" but the Broncos 1 point lead in the 1st half holds up.

Despite only scoring 69 points after averaging 95 in their previous 2 games, BSU actually still had a very balance offense attack with all 5 starters scoring in double digits well also getting 10 points from R. Pekkola off the bench.

R. Cowans (11 pts 3 ast), D. Nagata (10 pts 4 reb), D. Andrews (11 pts 5 reb), J. Kennedy (11 pts 5 reb) and R. Len Bullicer who was named POG after a double double with 11 pts 10 reb and 2 blocks.

UC RIVERSIDE (FINAL84-64)

The Highlanders found themselves training (47-28) at the half and never recovered. R. Gordon led the way witih 17 pts 4 reb and 2 blks off the bench after starting 31 games as a Freshman for Coach Scott.

For BSU it was another big night for the "Frenchman" Len Bullicer (15 pts 7 reb and 4 blks) but it was SO SG D. Nagata getting the POG award with 17 pts.

R. Cowans added 10 pts 4 reb and 4 asts, well Jesus Kennedy added 9 pts and 9 reb just missing out on a double double.

R. Pekkola led the bench with 12 pts and was 3/5 from 3pt.

(4-0) BSU WILL NOW TAKE ON (4-2) GONZAGA. THE BULLDOGS OPENED THEIR YEAR WITH A 91-56 WIN OVER PORTLAND STATE BUT A LOSS AT HOME VS Ark-Pine Bluff PLUS A ROAD LOSS @ MICHGAN GIVES COACH SCOTT AND HIS TEAM A BELIEVE THEY CAN MAKE IT 3 IN A ROW.

ROAD WARRIORS!!!

Boise State improved to a school record start as they go a perfect 3-0 on the road with wins over Gonzaga, Oregon State and Cal to improve to 7-0 on the season. BSU is currently 3rd in the Nation in scoring at 89.0 PPG behind Oklahoma State (90.2) and Tennesse (89.4) BSU also leads the nation in Assists at (17.6). As a team BSU is hitting 49% FG, 41% 3pt and 63% from the Free Throw line.

GONZAGA (W) FINAL SCORE 76-68

The Zags came into the game 4-2, coming off 2 straight loss's but played well in the 1st half but still trailed (34-33). The Broncos however got a huge 2nd half from R. Len Bullicer who scored 14 of his team high 23 pts to lead the Broncos to the win. The Broncos Bench also came up huge in the game scoring 34 pts led by Walkon R. Pekkola who had 13 pts 4 reb and 5 assists well hitting 3/6 from deep. JR Guard J. Toole added 10 pts and 4 assists well also going 2/5 from deep.

**Injury note Senior Jesus Kennedy played just 9 minutes and will miss the next 2 weeks with a strained calf. With V. Rasmussen already out, the Broncos will be left with just 8 active players and will not have a player on the bench taller then 6'7.

OREGON STATE (W) FINAL SCORE 105-97

Freshman Isiah Dilligard got the start at SF, with D. Andres moving to PF and Len Bullicer back to Center leaving Coach Scott just 3 guards as reserves off the bench.

Dilligard's assignment was to guard the man he replaced on scholarship, as the Broncos got a look at E. Malone (80 Overall) who took the OSU scholarship in the final weeks of recruiting.

Dilligard would show why he too was a high 4* recruit as he dominated both sides of the court scoring a season/career high 24 pts well going a perfect 10/10 FG and 2/2 3pt adding 4 rebs 5 assists and 2 steals. On the Defensive side he held Malone to just 3 pts (1/5 FG 1/4 3pt). Malone did manage to grab a team high 8 rebounds in 23 minutes of play.

Joining Dilligard in the scoring affair was Len Bullicer who posted a double double with 24 pts and 10 reb well D. Andres played great at PF, scoring 17 pts well grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists.

SG D. Nagata added 15 pts on 3/7 3pt well J. Pllummer led the bench with 11 pts on 2/5 from 3pt.

As a team BSU was 9/18 from beyond the arc but was just 8/31 from the stripe including missing 8/10 in the final minute that allowed OSU to make the game look closer then it was.

Senior SG C. Barlow (22.1 PPG) scored a team high 23 pts 3/5 3pt in the loss well JR PG F. Wiley added 19 pts 5 assists hitting 3/6 3pt.

OSU came into the game with a (5-1 Record)

CAL (W) FINAL SCORE 99-77

The Broncos won the rematch with the Bears who beat them in the Elite 8. Cal came into the game struggling with just a (3-3) record, and trailed (47-40) at the half.

BSU just missed scoring over the century mark for a 2nd straight game as they hit 16/24 from 3pt but were just 17/28 yet again from the Free Throw line.

"Again we had the opportunity to score 11 free points that we just gave away. Yes I am happy we got the win but we can't expect to hit 16 3's in a game and shoot 66%"

Soph D. Nagata led the way with 20 pts hitting 6/7 from deep, well R. Len Bullicer tied him for the team high with 20 pts as well as grabbing a team high 8 rebounds and having a team high 3 blks.

Len Bullicer is averaging 22.3 PPG the past 3 games after the loss of Kennedy.

I. Dilligard followed up his 24 point performance with 13 pts hitting 2/3 3pt and was a perfect 5/5 from the stripe.

J. Plummer (13 pts 3/5 3pt) and R. Pekkola (11 pts 2/3 3pt) led the bench, well R. Cowans ahd 10 pts and a team high 5 assists.

BSU (7-0) WILL TAKE ON (2-5) MONTANA STATE AT HOME NEXT FRIDAY AS THEIR ONLY GAME OF THE WEEK.

BRONCOS STAY PERFECT MOVE TO 9-0

After 3 huge road wins, BSU returned home for their final 2 home games of the non-conference schedule hosting Montana State and LMU as the in-season recruiting season also wrapped up. Well the Broncos stayed perfect on the court, Coach Scott suffered a little setback off the court failing to sign anyone with his 4 scholarships available, leaving the staff the rest of the season before they will find out who and who won't be joining BSU next season. Before we take a look at the Recruiting and a Top-25 update here is a recap of the past 2 games.

MONTANA STATE (W) FINAL SCORE 89-58

BSU dominated the 1st half taking a (40-26) lead into the locker room and never let up as they outscore the Bobcats (49-32) in the 2nd half.

MSU went just 2/6 from beyond the arc and only 6/13 from the free throw line and were led by U. 6'11 SR Urule Lett who had 13 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

For Boise State still playing with a 8 man rotation it was R. Len Bullicer continuing to carry the load with 24 pts, 4 rebs, 3 steals and 3 blocks, well SO SG D. Nagata added 12 pts and 8 assists hitting 4/8 from 3pt and D. Andres added 11 pts and 9 rebounds coming up just 1 shy of a double double.

However the biggest surprise was Junior Joseph Toole who had a career high 17 points off the bench.

LMU (W) FINAL SCORE 93-82

LMU came into the game (8-2) and was playing some great basketball coming in with 3 straight wins including La Tech, San Jose State and Air Force, but Boise State was lights out from deep hitting 10/23 in the game..

PG R. Cowans had a season high 18 pts hitting 2/3 from 3pt, well D. Nagata had a solid game with 14 pts 7 rebs and 6 assists.

JR D. Andres continues to shine in the PF role with 18 pts and was 7/12 from the FT line. R. Len Bullicer added 11 pts and tied Nagata with 7 rebounds for the team high.

SR J. Plummer led the bench with 11 pts hitting 3/5 from deep.
