Roster Update
Lakers Complete Trades for Kessler and Wall
After much speculation, the Los Angeles Lakers have decided to part ways with Austin Reaves. Los Angeles traded Reaves and a 2028 second round pick to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Walker Kessler. The deal was finalized after the Lakers’ win over the New York Knicks. Los Angeles is hoping this move will put them in a better position to move forward for the post-LeBron era.
After trading for Kessler, the Lakers were stacked at Center, so they decided to trade Thomas Bryant to the Denver Nuggets for point guard John Wall.
Wall, a former overall #1 pick by the Washington Wizards in the 2010 NBA Draft, signed a 2-year contract with the Nuggets during free agency this past summer. After 10 years with the Wizards, Wall has turned into quite the NBA journeyman. He joined the Houston Rockets for two seasons before moving onto the Los Angeles Clippers for one season. The five time All-Star now finds himself back in Los Angeles.
“We’re expecting John to bring in more support at the point guard spot,” said James. “It adds another veteran presence on the floor for our guys. We wish AR all the best. I think he’ll do great in Utah.”
The five time All-Star has been averaging 11 points and 4.7 assists per game for the Denver Nuggets. He started 20 games for Denver and scored a season high 26 points against the Los Angeles Clippers on January 29.
“I’m excited about joining this team,” said Wall. “They have a lot of great players. I just want to come in and contribute and help them to make a run in the post season.”
Los Angeles is currently second in the Western Conference, just two games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. Their position in the standings will allow the team to work out any kinks without the added pressure of trying to make the playoffs.
Kessler and Wall will join the Lakers in Indiana for their matchup against the Pacers.
