    HC 09 Dynasty

Rams dynasty was going well until the game locked up. Oh well. I still have a little time on my hands over the holiday and thought I'd run a new dynasty.

I will primarily be simming games in order to move quickly through seasons. I may play a couple of games in the season and will play all the playoff games. Not doing a whole lot of rules or restrictions on this one, although I will be using the ADEMBROWSKI sliders that I have set as default.

    Coach Ken Joslin
Playcalling 4, Strategy 3, Performance 5, No special Skills

    Playbooks:
Offense: Joslin OSU Spread- based off Michigan Spread with runs from the Full House formation added, and some other changes. No custom plays.

Defense: Joslin Tampa 2- based off Tampa 2, but it is primarily a man defense added lots of Man Blitzes.

    Philosophies:
Coaching Hire- give up no control
    Trade- down, neutral, heavy, aggressive
    Draft- team needs
Contract- normal, normal, $1mil, talent, normal, evenly, flexible
    QB Field General
    HB Balanced
    FB Blocking
    WR Balanced
    TE Blocking
    OL Size
    DT Run Stopper
    DE Speed Rusher
    OLB Pass Rusher
    ILB Balanced
    DB Man Coverage
    K/P Balanced
    Evaluation-draft, role
Playcall- Blitz Hvy, Man, HC, 46, Aggressive, Hvy, HC, West Coast Pass Hvy
Depth- Bench, Bench, balanced, balanced, balanced
    Injury- Aggressive

    Carolina HC John Fox Retires

HC John Fox has unexpectedly retired from the Carolina Panthers, leaving owner Gary Richards in a bind. With training camp set to begin the Panters need to find a HC and quickly. Normally, you would just promote a guy already on the team, but Richards has decided to go outside of the organization to name an interim coach. So after a brief search, the new Head Coach of the NFL's Carolina Panthers is 39-year-old Ken Joslin. It's a very big opportunity for a very smart guy.

Although marked with the dreaded "interim" label, Panthers owner, billionaire Gary Richards, says Joslin will get a fair shot to keep the top job based on team performance over the 2008 season.

Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Ohio, Kenneth was a star quarterback at Dartmouth University, where he was the 1992 Ivy League Player of the Year. He began his pro career playing in the Canadian Football League and the old World Football League, before making the Green Bay Packer's active roster in 1996. Joslin played for the Packers in 1996-1998, the Panthers in 1999, and the Patriots in 2000. Joslin played for 4 years in the NFL but never started a game.

After retiring from the NFL, Joslin became a coach. Coach Joslin used what he learned playing for some of the NFL's best coaches (Belichick, Holmgren, Seifert) to become a very successful college coach. He has coached at Auburn, Florida State and Oklahoma State.

Many football analysts said a NFL head coach job was destined for Joslin. It was John Madden, former NFL TV analyst supreme and champion Super Bowl coach, who called him one of "the smartest men in pro football."

    A New Beginning?

The Panthers finished 7-9 in 2007 and looked to need some major retooling of their playbooks. Joslin, previously the Oklahoma State Cowboys offensive coordinator (where he was one of colleges elite playcallers), will keep all of HC Fox's staff, but is expected to install a new offense and defense.

        Roster Outlook

QB: B+ The Panthers are only carrying two QBs this year, and look to be in good shape with starter Jake Delhomme and backup Alex Brink

HB: C+ Definite an area that could use improvement, fortunately the Panthers don't run a lot in the new offense. Coach Joslin is likely to sub in FB2 Carl Stewart on some running plays.

FB: B- Training camp invite and rookie Carl Stewart should do fine.

WR: B+ Led by Steve Smith and Mushin Muhammed this unit looks good. Waiver wire pickup Arquan McGlockton looks to challenge Muhammed for a starting spot.

TE: C+ The Joslin Spread doesn't throw to the TE too often so King and Rosario should work for now.

T: B+ Moving rookie 1st rounder Albert to LT means the Panthers are secure on the ends.

G: B training camp pickups Torrin Tucker and Jeremy Parquet should develop quickly.

C: B another training camp pickup, RT Kwame Harris has been moved to C and so far looks good.

DE: A- Julius Peppers leads this squad of pass rushers. This group is fast and should be able to get to the QB

DT: B Very thin. Kemoeatu is very good, only time will tell how Leisle performs.

OLB: B- Thomas Davis is the only star, everyone else is pedestrian at best. HC Joslin brought in some guys with speed, hoping that this would compensate for their otherwise unimpressive skill set.

MLB: B+ Jon Beason is a monster, but behind him it gets noticeably subpar.

CB: B capable starters in Lucas and Gamble, with a solid backup in Marshall.

FS: C+ The Panthers had to make a trade to get a guy to start and he's not that great.

SS: C you know you're in trouble when your starting strong safety is a rookie waiver wire CB coverted to SS.

K: A Kasay is still going strong as the only original Panther.

        P: B+ solid but unspectacular.

Beat the Buccaneers in Week 14

          Re-sign K John Kasay

          Re-sign DE Julius Peppers

Win ORoY with LT Brandon Albert...not likely

Fire GM at the end of the season...kind of a given

Approval of 65 or more by the end of the season.

                    2009 Draft Recap

(I just had the computer sim to my pick and tried to trade down, unfortunately I only got crazy low offers so I had to draft with very little info...so this one may turn out ugly. With me simming to my pick GM David Baumhauer made some trades)

1/17 acquired from the Jaguars for #24 and 3rd in 2009, and 4th in 2010... the Panthers take RE Caraun Lawrence (5yr $16.1M, $5.5m bonus)

2/24 DT Jake Forbes (4yr $2.4M, no bonus)

                    4/24 WR Vincent Nealy (3yr $1.1M deal)

                    5/17 QB Dexter Dudley (3yr $760k deal)

                    5/26 LT Irv Taylor (3yr $750k deal)

5/27 acquired form the Steelers for 2009 7th and 2010 6th...Carolina takes LG Edgar Branch (3yr $760k deal)

5/29 GM Baumhauer sends the Redskins a 6th and 2 7th rounders this year for the right to take MLB Josh Hayden (3yr $800k deal)

                    7/24 HB Ben Randolph (3yr $750k deal, $50k bonus)

Since I didn't have any info on almost everyone...I opted to not get any undrafted free agents.

                        2009 Regular Season (simmed)

                        Week 1
                        Dolphins 20
                        Panthers 55
QB Jake Delhomme blasts the Dolphins for 5 TDs. The Deadly Duo of Caraun Lawrence and Julius Peppers combine for 3 sacks.

                        Week 2
                        Panthers 35
                        Buccaneers 28
A 4th quarter surge allows the Buccaneers to tie the game, but they can't stop the Panthers from moving down the field and scoring on a HB Ben Randolph dive. Rookie DE Caraun Lawrence adds another 2 sacks to his impressive resume.

                        Week 3
                        Panthers 30
                        Redskins 21
The Panthers put up 11 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to seal the win. Rookie DE Caraun Lawrence adds another sack.

                        Week 4: Bye

                        Week 5
                        Buccaneers 13
                        Panthers 49
The Bucs came in looking for revenge, but after being embarrassed twice last year the Panthers decide to give HC Gruden and Tampa some of their own medicine. QB Jake Delhomme puts up 5 TDs and 444yds in this one. Rookie DE Caruan Lawrence out does himself with 4 sacks, nearly doubling his already impressive stats. SS Daniel Manning records 2 INTs.

                        Week 6
                        Panthers 49
                        Rams 17
QB Jake Delhome looks average in this one, but HB Willis McGahee makes a statement running for 132yds and 3 TDs on just 13 carries. HB McGahee would also catch 3 balls for 55yds. DE Caraun Lawrence adds another 2 sacks...surely teams will start to gameplan for him.

                        Week 7
                        Panthers 41
                        Patriots 17
Coach Joslin and the Panthers dismantle Coach Hal Openheimer's vaunted defense. QB Delhomme throws for 461yds and 4 TDs with HB Willis McGahee being his primary target (10 catches for 244yds and 4 TDs) The defense does manage to contain DE Caraun Lawrence. Brady is picked off 3 times by MLB Jon Beason, CB Richard Marshall, and OLB Thomas Davis respectively. There can be no doubt, the Panthers are for real.

                        Week 8
                        Saints 11
                        Panthers 27
A very poor outing for QB Delhomme where he throws as many picks as TDs, while completing only 50% of his passes. HB McGahee gets a rare 23 carries and breaks the 100yd mark for the 2nd time this season. DE Caraun Lawrence adds another sack to his record and is making it known he should be the defensive rookie of the year if not the defensive player of the year.

                        Week 9
                        Vikings 22
                        Panthers 38
The Vikings slow down the tempo in this one controlling the ball for 44:28. Unfortunately for them, Carolina can put up 5 TDs and a FG in only 15:32. The Deadly Duo combines for 5 sacks.

                        Week 10
                        Panthers 41
                        Jets 10
The Panthers dismantle the Jets. On a down note QB Delhomme gets knocked out of the game. The Deadly Duo combines for another 3 sacks. Is their a more potent DE combination in the league?

                        Week 11
                        Bills 10
                        Panthers 41
QB Jake Delhomme is nicked up, but you wouldn't know it from his performance in this one (298yds, 4 TDs). He gets knocked out of the game in the 3rd quarter. The Bills concentrated on keeping DE Caraun Lawrence off of QB Trent Edwards, and they were successful in that regard. Unfortunately that freed up DE Julius Peppers who had 3 sacks and knocked Edwards out of the game.

                        Week 12
                        Panthers 36
                        Falcons 7
QB Jake Delhomme, HB Willis McGahee and RE Caraun Lawrence are inactive for this one. Giving rookies QB Dexter Dudley and HB Ben Randolph the start. QB Dexter Dudley shines amassing 414yds and 4 TDs. On the defensive side of the ball DE Tony Bake makes the most of his rare start sacking Atlanta QB Trent Green 3 times.

                        Week 13
                        Giants 7
                        Panthers 28
Another start for QB Dudley and he struggles a little throwing 2 INTs. Fortunately HB Willis McGahee returns and puts up 272 all purpose yards and 3 TDs. DEs Julius Peppers and Tony Bake combine for 2 sacks. RE Caraun Lawrence is expected to miss at least another week.

                        Week 14
                        Falcons 22
                        Panthers 31
QB Dudley get ths start and is efficient moving the ball putting up 288yds, 2 TDs and no INTs. With HB McGahee nicked up again backup HB Ben Randolph does his part putting up 132 all purpose yards and 3 TDs. OLB Thomas Davis racks up a rare sack and an INT.

                        Week 15
                        Panthers 50
                        Saints 32
QB Jake Delhomme returns with a big game throwing for 456yds and 6 TDs! Saints QB Drew Brees tried to throw the Saints back into this one, but ended up having more mistakes (4 INTs) than success (2 TDs.) DE Julius Peppers adds 3 more sacks to his stats. LBs Josh Hayden and Jon Beason both add 2 INTs to their resumes.

                        Week 16
                        Panthers 47
                        Cowboys 3
It was a massacre, like Custer at Little Big Horn massacre. QB Delhomme throws for 446ys and 3 TDs with backup HB Ben Randolph being his primary target (8 catches for 218yds TD). Still no Caraun Lawrence, but DE Tony Bake does just fine, sacking QB Tony Romo twice. QB Romo is picked off 5 times as well (SS D. Tribble 2, SS D. Manning 1, OLB T. Davis 1, OLB J. Hayden 1)

                        Week 17
                        Eagles 24
                        Panthers 31
A last minute TD gives the Panthers an undefeated season. HB Willis McGahee returns from injury to put up 238 all purpose yards and 2 TDs. RE Caraun Lawrence returns but is ineffective in this one.

The Panthers go 16-0 and earn a bye in the playoffs.
