    Mt. St. Mary\'s Upsets Alabama

The 6-2 (1-0, NEC) Mt. St. Mary's Mountaineers entered hostile Coleman Coliseum and knocked off the 7-3 Crimson Tide of Alabama. THe Mountaineers used a balanced all around game to get the win. MSM jumped out to an early lead and finally really pulled ahead by the score of 33-23 with 6:00 to go in the first half. They kept the lead at 10 by the end of the first leading by a 43-33 count. The difference in the first was stellar shooting by the Mountees leading 63% to 50% in that category.

The second half didn't start as well for the Mountaineers giving up a 10-0 run early and letting the Tide tie the game at 43 just a minute and a half into the half. MSM was able to pull ahead again though and take a big lead again at 59-49 with 10 minutes to play. They coasted from there going on to win 86-72 getting a huge victory against a major conference foe.

They won the game solely on the strength of their strong field goal percentage, shooting 60% to Bama's 46%. They were able to out rebound the Tide but only 30-28. They also had to overcome a 25-18 turnover deficet.

The Tide was led in scoring by SG Charels Jacobsen's 20pts. Backups, SG Attarrius Spencer with 11pts, and PF R. Meyers and his 15pts and 6rbs. C Wes Price was also able to grab 9 rbs, while PG Antoine Pettway had 8pts and 10asts.

The Mountaineers were paced by PG Chris Summers and his 20pts. PF Damon Killingsworth and Isaac Harvey both had 16 pts and 10 and 9 rbs respectively. SG Roland Thompson was able to chip in with 12pts and 5rbs.

Coach Hendry was elated with the victory. "This is the biggest win for this program since i have been here. If you told me when we came here that we would be able to win AT Alambama, then i would have called you stupid. We did it though. We can't be satisfied now because we have a long way to go and much more to accomplish before it is all over."

MSM is now 7-2 (1-0, NEC), and next play at home against the 3-6 Georgia St. Panthers.

        MSM Holds Off Georgia St

The Knott Center crowd didn't go home disappointed as the Mountaineers of Mt. St. Mary's were able to hold on against Georgia St. for a 75-67 victory. It was a hard fought game that was marked by foul trouble for MSM's star center Isaac Harvey. He got his second foul less than a minute into the game and was forced to sit out the rest of the first half. MSM was still able to gain a 41-37 first half advantage, outrebounding the Panthers 16-9.

The second half was more of the same with the shooting remaining virtually equal, but the difference being on the boards where the Mountaineers had a 43-21 edge. They also had 17 offensive rebounds to GA St.'s 4.

The Panthers were led by C Nate WIlliams' 25pts and 11rbs. SF Avery Young and PG Lamont McIntosh added 13 and 15pts respectively.

MSM was led by star PF Daman Killingsworth with 17pts and 12rbs. SF Pat Atangana also had a great performance with 15pts and 8rbs. Off the bench Harvey's backup Sam Miller had 14pts and 10rbs. Finally PG Chris Summers had 10pts.

MSM is now 8-2 (1-0, NEC) and are due to resume conference play next at St. Francis(PA). The Red Flash have an identical record as the Mountaineers making this a huge early season showdown. Coach Hendry is looking forward to the opportunity. "We must win this game. It will give us an early lead in conference and give us a jump start as we begin conference play."

Mountaineers TCB against St. Francis (PA)

Coach Hendry had a unique kind of motivation for the MSM Mountaineers before their big showdown with the Red Flash of St. Francis. He said that they must TCB. "I told them that this game was all about TCB. They didn't know what that meant until i walked on the court in practice." Coach Hendry walked out of his office before practice wearing a three piece suit and carrying a briefcase. "I told them that we had to 'Take Care of Business'. This is a huge game for us and we have to make it our business to win games like these."

The coaching stradegy paid off with the Mountaineers winning convincingly 89-60. The biggist key to the game would have to be the comfortable 69% to 49% shooting advantage that the Mountaineers enjoyed. The Flash also struggled taking care of the ball turning it over 17 times as opposed to MSM's 10.

St. Francis was led by PF Steveroy Daley and his 22pts and 8rbs. C Jason Osborne also contributed mightily with 20pts.

For the Mountees Isaac Harvey returned from a game against GA St. plauged with foul trouble to dominate the middle scoreing 32pts and grabbing 8rbs. PF Damon Killngsworth had yet another double double with 18pts and 11rbs to go along with 5asts. Pat Atangana had 10pts while PG Chris Summers had 14pts and 4asts.

MSM is now 9-2 (2-0, NEC) with a trip to Robert Morris up next. RMU is 6-4 (0-2, NEC) so far this year.

Mt. St. Mary\'s Easily Handles Robert Morris

The Mt. St. Mary's Mountaineers were locked in a tough battle for 34 minutes against the Colonials of Robert Morris. The game was never really that close though as MSM was able to pull ahead to a 97-76 victory. The Sewell Center was full to see the hottest team in the NEC. They were shocked early as the Mountees pulled out to an early 11-3 lead. This lead was pretty consistent for the rest of the half as the score at the break was 49-37. The back and forth second haf was pretty even until MSM pulled away down the stretch for the easy victory. All stats were virtually even in the game with the only real difference being in FG % where MSM outshot RMU 69% to 56%.

Robert Morris was led by PF Aaron Thomas' 20pts. The C combo of Brett Rhodes and Brent Thomas combined for 34pts and 12rbs. Finally, PG Maurice Carter had 11pts and 15asts.

Mt. St. Mary's was led by SF Pat Atangana who had 26pts and 7rbs. C Isaac Harvey had 22pts and 5rbs. PF Damon Killingsworth and backup SG Chris Neal both had 13pts.

The Mountaineers are now 10-2 (3-0, NEC) with a visit from the 3-9 (1-2, NEC) Long Island Blackbirds next on the schedule.
