Philadelphia, PA - To start off with, both teams shot horrendously, and fans of both teams found themselves booing the quality of play. Not even Jawan Carter could silence the offensive critics, as the star soph scored only six points in the opening half. Rob Ferguson led the Hawks in scoring with eight points in the first period of play, but the Dayton Flyers found themselves tied at 32 with the #3 ranked Hawks at the break.

A new tune was sung during the second half, as St. Joseph's woke up from their slumber and put some serious points on the board. Carter hit a couple of threes, and dished off numerous assists to his teammates. The Hawks had four players score in double figures, and numerous others chipped in, as St. Joe's beat Dayton.

I don't see winning the A10 to be that big of a problem this year.

Philadelphia, PA - The St. Joseph's Hawks and La Salle Explorers faced off in a Philly Big 5 matchup, and the Hawks were heavily favored. Despite the #3 ranking, though, St. Joe's came out particularly flat, and battled just to stay in the game for much of the first half. La Salle jumped out to a 15-2 lead to begin the ball game, but Jawan Carter put on his Superman costume and led his Hawks back with a couple of three-pointers. Rob Ferguson played well, too, and the Hawks led by five going into the break.

Halftime must've brought an exceptional speech from Phil Martelli, as St. Joseph's hit shot after shot after coming back onto the floor. Carter continued to dazzle the crowd, and the Hawks rebounded well on their way to the easy 25 point victory.

Philadelphia, PA - Jawan Carter and Rob Ferguson formed quite a duo in the first half, as St. Joe's jumped out to a huge lead. The two "coaches on the floor" scored thirty points between themselves, and the Hawks held a nineteen point lead going into halftime.

In the second half, L.F. Riddle of St. Bonaventure went off. The shooting guard hit 7/13 three-pointers on the night, five of which were in the second period of play. Despite the Bonnies' comeback attempt, and numerous bad turnovers by the Hawks late in the game, St. Joseph's pulled out the four point victory.

Amherst, MA - Things looked pretty bleak for the Hawks early on, as UMass senior Gary Forbes and freshman Jerrold Boggan lit it up from the perimeter. Three-pointers seemed to come continuously from the Minutemen lineup, and St. Joseph's had no answer for much of the first half. Jawan Carter struggled a bit in the opening minutes, but turned it up once the Hawks got into trouble, and was the sole reason SJ's stayed in the game at all. Rob Ferguson also got into the flow of things, and helped bring the Hawks within two at the intermission.

After the half, Carter continued to play well and St. Joseph's made a few big pushes towards yet another victory. Forbes and Boggan slowed down a bit for Massachusetts, but both of them ended with point totals in the 20's. When all was said and done, UMass just couldn't defend against St. Joe's late in the game, and the Hawks came out with an A10 road win.

Philadelphia, PA - Early on, this Big 5 contest looked like it would be another great game to add to the long list between St. Joe's and Temple. The two teams traded buckets for much of the half, and the stars of both teams came to play. Jawan Carter hit a three and ran off for numerous fast break buckets for the Hawks, and Mark Tyndale played well in Temple's balanced attack.

The second half went nothing like the Owls hoped, though, as the Hawks saw their lead get bigger and bigger. Rob Ferguson recorded his second straight double-double, and Darrin Govens shot the ball well from the perimeter. With both of these players complimenting Carter, this game was over early.

Pittsburgh, PA - Over the year, when the Hawks have traveled into Duquesne, a win is most definitely expected to come out of it. However, the Dukes had other plans this year, and their stifling defense kept not only Jawan Carter in check, but St. Joe's scratching their head for the entire half. Carter still led his team in scoring, but had only six points at the end of the first period of play. Stephen Wood led the Dukes in points with six as well, and the Hawks went into the break with a one point lead.

In the second half, Duquesne shocked the nation as they pulled out to a 10 point lead on the #3 ranked St. Joseph's Hawks. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, currently #4, were in the edge of their seats as the Dukes edged closer and closer to putting the ball game away. However, with four minutes left, Carter came to life. He had struggled from the field all day, but managed to hit big shots at the right times. Rob Ferguson and Ahmad Nivins also chipped in with timely baskets, and the Hawks put away a close one in Pittsburgh, 61-54.
