    Hawks Hammer Army

Rob Ferguson throws down the dunk for two of his eleven

Philadelphia, PA - With all due respect to the Armed Forces, the Black Knights were terrible when they set foot on St. Joseph's floor. Jawan Carter, widely recognized as a collegiate superstar and leader of the Hawks, didn't even have to score more than seven points in the opening half for St. Joe's to leap out to a huge lead. Diego Brady, the freshman and sixth man, scored twelve in the first period of play to lead the Hawks. Ahmad Nivins also played well, grabbing rebounds and throwing down dunks left and right.

The second half was nothing special, although Jarrel Brown of Army hit tons of shots from the perimeter. The Black Knights didn't put up much of a fight in this one, and the Hawks won 94-62.

        St. Joseph's Journal
        St. Joe's Lands Big Recruit
        Volume 2, Issue 14

Martelli's recent success has drawn interest
from tons of top recruits across the nation

Philadelphia, PA - Despite losing one of their top targets to Boston College, the St. Joseph's Hawks signed Dominik Sood, a small forward out of New Jersey. Sood is ranked #5 amongst small forwards in his class, and is a great looking 5* prospect. The 6'6", 208lbs forward possesses these traits:

        Offense: A-
        Shooting: A-
        Rebounding: B
        Hustle: A
        Leaping: A+
        Quickness: B+
        Intelligence: A+
        Potential: B-

With Rob Ferguson and Pat Calathes graduating after this season, Sood will likely jump into the starting lineup next year, barring any serious setbacks.

On another note, the Hawks are also close to signing 4* point guard Ellis Bryant. The 6'2" prospect is ranked as the 5th overall point guard in the current high school senior class, and is lethal with the rock from anywhere on the court. With an A+ rating in shooting, St. Joe's hopes he can help make up for the likely loss of current point guard Jawan Carter.

          Joe's Embarrasses Visiting Panthers
          Volume 2, Issue 15

Jawan Carter dropped 25 on Northern Iowa

Philadelphia, PA - The story of the first half wasn't how great Jawan Carter was playing. Nor was it the obvious inside advantage the Hawks had over their opponents. Honestly, the story wasn't even how many times the Panthers turned the ball over. The story, by process of elimination, had to then be the putrid possessions the Panthers put together and the abismal shooting percentage they compiled. All in all, St. Joe's held Northern Iowa to just 17 points in the first half. In all seriousness, does anything else need to be said?

The second half saw Martelli's subs play the majority of the minutes, and the Panthers still struggled on both ends of the court. Fans definitely left this one early, and for good reason, as the Hawks demolished Northern Iowa, 90-47.

Pat Calathes finished one rebound shy of a double-double

Philadelphia, PA - The Tigers of Texas-Southern were outplayed, out-coached, and outclassed in Alumni Memorial Coliseum. The Hawks poured it on early and often against their severely inferior opponents, and superstar guard Jawan Carter had a field day. Honestly, not much needs to be said, as St. Joe's cruised to the easy 84-64 win.

Nice start to the 2007-08 season! The Hawks look pretty tough and Carter is just a beast! Nice catch in Snood. He looks like he will be an immediate contributor. Good luck the rest of the way!

Ahmad Nivins sends a shot right back where it came from

Philadelphia, PA - Jawan Carter started the game off very well. When SJ's star guard does that, it usually spells game over for the opposition. In this contest, it was no different. Carter drained three three-pointers on the afternoon, two of them coming in the first several minutes of the contest. Rob Ferguson chipped in with several points of his own, and Edwin Lashley continued to provide a spark off the bench for Martelli's Hawks.

Davidson had no answer for the offensive onslaught that St. Joseph's brought to the table, and the Hawks' shooters had a field day against the Wildcats. Shooting at a 53% clip, Martelli's troops won easily, 92-58.

Jawan Carter puts up the shot with four Huskies around

Philadelphia, PA - Perhaps before the first few minutes were done, this matchup between the #2 ranked Hawks and the Huskies of Northern Illinois was over. Jawan Carter & Co. ran off a 12-0 run to begin the contest, and the Huskies appeared shaken and would never fully recover. Carter hit a couple of threes, a couple of layups, and a couple of people for open shots as the Hawks went to town on the opposition's weak defense.

Nothing changed in the second half, even with the bench of St. Joe's seeing the majority of the playing time. Diego Brady put up 16 points against Northern Illinois, and the Hawks cruised to the huge victory, 89-36.

Chicago, IL - Early on, this game appeared no different than the recent offensive fireworks the Hawks had put on display. Although not everybody was shooting well, Jawan Carter was, and that's usually enough to propel St. Joseph's into a comfortable lead. About halfway through the first half, though, Carter was unable to sustain enough offense to carry the team, and the Hawks fell victim to a Blue Demons' run. Martelli took a timeout to rally his team, and his speech must have worked, as the Hawks closed out the half with a seven point lead.

The second half was much of the same, as the teams went back and forth on DePaul's home floor. Late in the half, though, the Hawks fell apart. Rob Ferguson, who had an especially rough game with only four points, fouled out. With only a minute left, St. Joe's fell behind, and had to resort to fouling. The Blue Demons hit their free throws, and took the victory over the #2 ranked St. Joseph's Hawks.
