      Darrin Govens finds ways to
      contribute in Martelli's offense

Louisville, KY - In their first game of the NABC Classic held in Louisville, Kentucky, the St. Joseph's Hawks took on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. Although the game was listed to be at a neutral court, it was obvious who had the advantage. St. Joe's took a commanding lead in the first half, and never really looked back. Sophomore big man Ahmad Nivins contributed on the block, dropping 10 of his 18 points in the first half. At the break, Joe's led by 17.

The second half was much of the same, as Joe's continued to roll. Jawan Carter had a rare off-game, shooting only 2 of 9 from beyond the arc. The youngster still managed to put up 14 points, though, and the Hawks took the 70-55 victory.

      Player of the Game
      Ahmad Nivins (St. Joe's) - 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks

      St. Joseph's Hawks
      Jawan Carter - 14 points, 2/9 3PT, 7 assists
      Darrin Govens - 10 points, 6 assists
      Pat Calathes - 9 points, 8 rebounds
      Rob Ferguson - 9 points, 8 rebounds

      Alabama A&M Bulldogs
      Trant Simpson - 17 points, 4 assists, 3 steals
      Desmond Jackson - 17 points, 5 rebounds
      Evan Hilton - 15 points, 2 assists, 2 steals

      Record: 6-2

Looking forward to reading this. You haven't done a J in while. I'm gonna start a journal in NBA2K7 later on today after I get the game, just don't know who to play with.

St. Joe's mascot roots the Hawks on

Louisville, KY - The second game of the NABC Classic for the Hawks saw Joe's take on the hometown Cardinals of Louisville. Rick Pitino's program remains a national power, but Phil Martelli and the Hawks weren't discouraged.

The first half featured two high-octane offenses running up and down the floor, as both St. Joseph's and Louisville shot over 50% from the field. Jawan Carter hit three three-pointers in the half, and Rob Ferguson held things down on the block for Joe's. Earl Clark established himself as a pest to the Hawks early and often, and put up 11 points in the half. Despite Clark's efforts, the Cardinals trailed by a single point going into the half.

Louisville came out at the same pace in the second session, but the Hawks struggled to keep up. Carter continued to knock down shots, but as a whole, St. Joe's slowly lost momentum. Midway through the half, however, Darrin Govens sparked a Joe's run by completing a three-point play after coming up with a steal. The Hawks were able to catch up to the Cardinals, but free throws eventually put it away, and Louisville barely beat St. Joseph's, 76-74.

          Player of the Game
Earl Clark (Louisville) - 18 points, 6 rebounds

          St. Joseph's Hawks
          Jawan Carter - 22 points, 6/7 3PT, 9 assists
          Rob Ferguson - 16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists
          Pat Calathes - 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
          Darrin Govens - 8 points, 2/8 3PT, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

          Louisville Cardinals
          Jerry Smith - 16 points, 2 rebounds
          David Padgett - 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals
          Brandon Jenkins - 10 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists
          Juan Palacios - 9 points, 8 rebounds

Ahmad Nivins throws one down for
two of his 18 points against Ohio

Louisville, KY - St. Joseph's final game of the NABC Classic pitted them against the lowly Bobcats of Ohio. Although the Bobcats aren't a terrible squad, the Hawks felt confident after going toe to toe with Louisville.

St. Joe's took a commanding first half lead behind the shooting of guards Jawan Carter and Darrin Govens and the low post play of Ahmad Nivins. Nivins got off to a great start, scoring the first eight points of the basketball game. The sophomore has been solid this season for Martelli's squad, and compliments Rob Ferguson, who had six points in the half, very well.

The second half was much of the same, and the Hawks' starters took quite a few breaks. The Bobcats attempted a comeback, and actually came within four points of Joe's, but the Hawks eventually pulled back away and won 72-61.

            Player of the Game
            Ahmad Nivins (St. Joe's) - 18 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks

            St. Joseph's Hawks

            Darrin Govens - 12 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists

            Pat Calathes - 10 points, 6 rebounds

            Ohio Bobcats
            Leon Williams - 16 points, 14 rebounds
            Whitney Davis - 14 points, 2 steals
            Jerome Tillman - 14 points, 4 rebounds

Philadelphia, PA - When you give up 52 points in the first half, things obviously are not going your way. Against St. Joe's, St. Mary's College managed to give up this absurd amount of points in the first half alone, and a double digit margin separated the squads at the intermission.

Although the gap was somewhat closed in the second half, the Hawks were able to pull away once again, and claimed the 92-82 victory.

Philadelphia, PA - During this year's Holiday Festival matchup between St. Joe's and Hofstra, some added gasoline will be thrown onto the fire. Playing at Madison Square Garden in New York, the two teams will be playing not only to continue in the tournament or to add to their season win totals, but to further impress a top recruit.

Diego Brady, a 6'6" swingman from New York, is very interested in both Hofstra and St. Joe's, respectively. The high school senior is an athletic freak with a good shot and great potential.

With a win, St. Joe's will pull much closer to being able to land the prospect.

New York, NY - St. Joe's participation in the Holiday Festival in New York started with a matchup against the Hofstra Pride. With the afore mentioned recruiting battle adding another incentive, both teams came out firing on all cylinders. The first several minutes saw both teams shoot at a tremendous clip from the field, but the Hawks kept up their hot streak for a little bit longer. Jawan Carter continued to amaze people in his freshman season, hitting three shots from deep in the half and helping Joe's to a twelve point advantage at the break.

The second half saw the Hawks just tread water in hopes of outlasting the Pride. Hofstra came on strong behind the play of Antoine Agudio, and the Joe's coaching staff was beyong worried a few points in the second half. Hofstra came within two points at one time late in the game, but the post play of the Hawks led them to the 73-66 victory.

solid against St. Joseph's in NY

New York, NY - The Championship Game of the Holiday Festival in New York pitted the St. Joseph's Hawks against the Red Storm of St. John's. It was obvious from the opening minutes that defense was going to be the name of the game, as the Red Storm absolutely stifled the Hawks' offensive strategies. Jawan Carter wasn't his usual self, as he shot 0/4 from downtown in the first period of play. Rob Ferguson carried the load offensively; the only problem being he managed to score only six points. Aaron Spears was a beast on the block for St. John's, grabbing numerous rebounds and really opening up the offense for the Red Storm. Complimenting him perfectly, Daryll Hill hit a few outside shots to solidify a nine point lead for St. John's at the half.

The second half was downright embarrassing for St. Joseph's, and the scoring woes continued. Pat Calathes started to hit a few shots, but they weren't nearly enough to make a dent in the lead that the Red Storm had built. After numerous turnovers, including six by Carter, the Hawks fell to St. John's, 69-59.

Your legacy blows, only because UCLA isn't in the top 25.

Looking great man, keep it up.
