      Forward Rob Ferguson dropped 16
      points against the Duquesne Dukes

Philadelphia, PA - The Duquesne Dukes visited St. Joseph's for the first conference game of their seasons. Early on, it appeared as if the Dukes should just get back on the bus, as the Hawks starting things off with a 22-4 run. Jawan Carter didn't score much in the first half, but contributed in many other ways. The St. Joe's offense really flowed through the young guard, and he dished off seven assists in the half. Rob Ferguson carried the scoring load, dropping ten of his sixteen points in the first period.

St. Joe's held onto their lead in the second half, and Carter started to score for himself. The young man hit a couple of triples, and Ferguson remained solid on the block. In the end, the Hawks came out on top, winning 69-53.

      Player of the Game
      Jawan Carter (St. Joe's) - 17 points, 3/4 3PT, 12 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals

Thanks for reading, bro. I'm hoping I can take care of business in the A-10 and make a little postseason noise.

                Charlotte Embarrasses Joe's
                Volume 1, Issue 27

                Leemire Goldwire led all scorers
with 21 points against the Hawks

Charlotte, NC - When you struggle to shoot 35% from the field, and your opponent is hovering around 50%, you are going to have some problems. St. Joe's came to this realization quickly against the 49ers of UNC-Charlotte. The first half was bad, with the only points the Hawks scored being off of offensive rebounds or an occasional three pointer. Leemire Goldwire ran Charlotte's offense effectively, and dropped eleven points in the half. David Booker and Phil Jones grabbed rebound after rebound for the 49ers, and pounded away on Joe's inexperience on the block.

The second half was equally as bad. Although the Hawks managed to pull within twelve points at one time, the 49ers put this one away easily, 71-53.

                Player of the Game
                Leemire Goldwire (Charlotte) - 21 points, 3/5 3PT, 4 assists

                St. Joseph's Hawks
                Pat Calathes - 15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals
                Jawan Carter - 13 points, 3/6 3PT, 9 assists
                Rob Ferguson - 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals

                Charlotte 49ers
                De'Angelo Alexander - 17 points
                Phil Jones - 12 points, 10 rebounds
                David Booker - 8 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals

                    Dustin Salisbery slams home
two of his twenty one points

Philadelphia, PA - Fresh off of a loss to UNC-Charlotte, Phil Martelli's troops were eager to begin their Big 5 contest against the Temple Owls. In the first half, it was obvious the Hawks were taking out their frustrations, and Joe's jumped out to a very comfortable lead. Led by freshmen Jawan Carter and Darrin Govens, the offense flowed well, and Martelli was pleased as the Hawks held a five point lead going into the half.

The dam seemed to burst in the second half, however, as the Owls stormed back. Dustin Salisbery, a very talented 2-guard for Temple, dropped bucket after bucket on the Joe's defense. Luis Guzman's quickness also posed problems for the Hawks, and before too long, the Owls actually gained the lead for the first time in the game. After trading baskets for awhile, Temple pulled away and gained a significant advantage. The Hawks were forced to foul, and after a last second three-point attempt by Carter, fell in their second consecutive conference contest, 70-68.

                    Player of the Game
                    Dustin Salisbery (Temple) - 21 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals

                    Pat Calathes - 13 points, 2 rebounds

Coach Martelli looks on as Joe's
                      dominates against Rhode Island

Philadelphia, PA - After two straight conference losses, Phil Martelli had seen enough of his team losing. With the Rhode Island Rams visiting Philadelphia, the Hawks couldn't afford another loss. The first half showed Joe's play some of the best basketball that they have in awhile, as freshman Jawan Carter started out hot scoring and dishing the ball off to teammates. Rob Ferguson was solid on the block, and Pat Calathes came alive at the end of the half.

The second half was much of the same, and the Hawks beat the Rams in dominating fashion, 78-59.

Darrin Govens knocks down one of his five three pointers

Bronx, NY - After beating up on Rhode Island, the Hawks got on the bus and did the same thing in New York to the Fordham Rams. Led by the extraordinary backcourt of Jawan Carter and Darrin Govens, St. Joe's got off to a great start. Both Carter and Govens knocked down a couple of three pointers, and Edwin Lashley came off of the bench to score a few points, as well. Going into the half, the Hawks were well in control of the basketball game.

The second half went just as the first, and the Hawks continued to pull away from the lowly Fordham squad. Carter stayed hot from the field, and St. Joe's cruised to the 77-55 victory.

Xavier had no answer for the lightning-quick Jawan Carter

Philadelphia, PA - The Musketeers visited the Hawks as one of the most highly touted Atlantic 10 teams, but Xavier is often regarded as wildly inconsistent. St. Joseph's was quick to reveal this weakness, and their pressure defense caused the Musketeers to come out as flat as ever. Jawan Carter hit a couple of deep balls in the first half, and the big men of St. Joseph's got very involved in the offense. Rob Ferguson exploded on a 6-0 run of his own at one point that set the Musketeers back by double digits.

In the second half, Joe's slowed down a bit. Although their lead never completely vanished, it did indeed grow smaller at times. Ahmad Nivins, however, would not allow the Hawks to cough up the game, as the sophomore grabbed key rebounds, made huge blocks and slammed home numerous dunks. In the end, Joe's claimed a 69-54 win.

                                Volume 1, Issue 35

Pat Calathes finishes off a lob pass for two of his fourteen points

Washington, D.C. - Going into the game against the 3-7 George Washington Colonials, St. Joe's was everything but nervous. After three straight conference wins, the Hawks were very confident heading to the nation's capital.

After a 12-0 run to begin the game, the Hawks' emotions completely flipped, and Joe's was forced to pick up the slack in a hurry. The Colonials not only shot the three-ball very well, but when they did happen to miss, their big men grabbed the rebounds. In fact, the Hawks were outrebounded by twelve in the first half of play, and were down by a double digit deficit.

The second half didn't see things get much better, but the Hawks tried and tried to climb back into the contest. At one point, Jawan Carter led Joe's back to within seven points, but that was as close as this one got. Eventually, GW pulled away for the twenty point victory, 90-70.
