West Point,NY -- During a press conference, Coach Knight stated that Suhan Norwood suffered a bad abdominal strain and he would not be able to play for about three weeks. Doug Williams, who had complained about the lack of playing time, will suit up to take his place on the active bench.

Also today, Coach Knight announced that the top recruiting target, Gerald Jacobson, stated in a phone call that he will be attending West Point next season (he's at 100%). He is the 52nd rated small forward and the 188th overall rated player.

                    (4-star recruit, off: A, shooting: A, rebounding: C+, hustle: B-, leaping: B+, quickness: A-, intelegence: A+, potential: avg)

Wow that is good about jacobson. He could be a real offensive weapon for you next year. Do you have any plans to leave Army if you get a decent offer at the end of the year.

No. Right now I am looking to stay at West Point for another few years. The real Bob Knight coached Army for six years before heading to Indiana. (Coach K was there for 5, BTW) I would like to stay there for that period as well. This will also allow me to see how the first two recruiting classes come out.

                          Thanks for the reply

Sounds cool. imho, I wish that the game offered bigger incentives to players to move up the ranks (besides the one coaching goal that gets satisfied). I just like to see dynasties where the coaches start facing tougher competition, particularly tougher intra-conference competition. My guess is that you will easily out-recruit your Patriot league counterparts over time.

However, it's also easy to understand your rationale. You make a good point that the current coaching carousel is not terribly realistic by always allowing a small-school coach to move up to the mid-major level (or maybe even major level) after only two years on the job. Still, this game's system is much better than the current college football offering where you can have one great season at ULM and all of a sudden receive job offers from LSU and Ohio State.

So, if you land Jacobsen (sic?), will you satisfy more than the one recruiting goal (4-star recruit)? I'm guessing that he is probably not the Mr. Basketball for New York, but it is possible for 4-star recruits to have attended the 2k sports camp.

He actually wanted to go to Army, which in itself was amazing for a four-star recruit. He had a 75% interest as a junior in HS.

During his senior year in HS his priorities were:

playing close to home (he's from Cincinnati, OH)
playing time (he's certain to get it here at Army)
wants to be wanted (I made sure that he got a phone call from me every week plus I flew to visit him and he also visited West Point)
it was okay for not being a big time program

His interest jumped to 85% at the start of this season and we were the first, and only, school to offer a scholorship. His interest just kept rising week after week. The only other school interested in him is Rider.

I just like to see dynasties where the coaches start facing tougher competition, particularly tougher intra-conference competition. My guess is that you will easily out-recruit your Patriot league counterparts over time.

However, it's also easy to understand your rationale. You make a good point that the current coaching carousel is probably not terribly realistic by always allowing a small-school coach to move up to the mid-major level (or maybe even major level) after only two years on the job. Still, this game's system is much better that the current college football offering where you can have one great season at ULM and all of a sudden have job offers from LSU and Ohio State.

Poor Army was only rated 61 overall at the start of the year so pratically every game it was expected for us to be heavy underdogs. Almost all of the Patriot League teams improved. Army's went down.

I tend to keep the recruiting as honest as I can so I allow my "assistants" to help select the possible recruits. For me to target a recruit he would have to have a good interest in coming, which I think would be 70% or higher. Trying to get a 4 or 5 star recruit to come when he is only 50% wouldn't be too realistic to me, plus it would be kind of foolish and wishful thinking on my part. In fact, all of the recruits from the past offseason had a blue "W" next to them on the roster. I think that means that they were walk ons. Is that correct?

I really would like to follow the real Bob Knight's footsteps and stay six years except of course if Indiana wants me. If not, after six years I'll move on to a bigger program. But you are right, it is much better than NCAA football as far as the coaching offers go.

I think that Jacobson only satisfies the 4-star recruit goal. He wasn't Mr.Basketball for New York. He wasn't even a Mr.Basketball for Ohio.

I need to find assistant coaches who can teach AND scout/recruit. My first priority for recruiting is intellegence, then skills. These guys actually wanted me to give a scholorship to a player that was rated "D" and couldn't rebound if he was the only person on campus (rated "F" in rebounding). Also, he was rated "D" in offense, defense and shooting. Not exactly a skilled player.
