      Army Surges In 2nd Half, Holds On To Win, 61-57

      First Half

      Jacobson and Price trade jumpers and after van de Laar hits a 3pter, Padilla slams in a dunk and sinks a hook to give Fairfield the lead. Jacobson drills a 3pter then Berry drains a runner to tie the game, 8-8, with just over 15:00 remaining. Jacobson and Abbott trade 3pters then Jacobson swishes a jumper and van de Laar banks in a couple of layups on fast breaks. Price cans a hook and Abbott sinks a jumper to pull the Stags to withn a basket, 17-15, halfway through the opening half. Bey buries a hook and after Guy and Bey trade a pair of free throws, Berry jams in a dunk and Guy hits a short jumper to tie the game. Goodman makes 1 of 2 free throws then after Guy and Goodman trade layups, Elias banks in a layup to give Fairfield the lead, 25-24, with just under 5:00 left. Guy converts a 3-point play and after van de Laar and Price trade jumpers, Price and van de Laar trade layups. Norwood tips in a rebound then Horton makes 1 of 2 free throws to give the Stags a three point lead at the half. Army's van de Laar leads all scorers with 11 points and Guy leads Fairfield with 9.

      Second Half
      Basden and Jacobson trade layups and after Padilla sinks a hook, Price banks in a layup. van de Laar banks in a jumper then Padilla tips in a rebound to give Fairfield a seven point lead, 41-34, with just over 15:00 remaining. Jacobson nails a jumper and a layup then after Basden hits a 3pter, Padilla banks in a layup and a hook. van de Laar buries a jumper and after Basden and George trade 3pters, Basden nails a jumper to give the Stags a ten point lead, 53-43, midway through the second half. Bey drps in a layup then after Berry buries a turnaround jumper, Jacobson hits a layup and a 3pter. Norwood tips in a rebound and Montgomery swishes a turnaround jumper to cap a 9-0 run that pulls Army to within one, 55-54, with less than 5:00 left. Guy banks in a jumper and after Montgomery slams in a dunk on a fast break, Bey buries a 3pter with 1:00 to go to give the Black Knights the lead. Jacobson drops in a layup on a fast break and with 18.4 to go Fairfield brings the ball upcourt. The time dwindles down to around :04 before the Stags could get a shot off and Basden misses a jumper. The ball is rebounded by Padilla, who kicks it out, and a hurried 3pter by Berry misses as Army hangs on and wins the Marist Classic.

Krogh drops in a layup then after van de Laar and Bailey trade 3pters, Jacobson buries a jumper. Bird banks in a layup then Krogh makes two free throws to pull the Mountain Hawks to within nine, 20-11, halfway through the first half. Chadwick hits a 3pter and after Green drains a runner, Bey drills a 3pter. Chiles nails a turnaround jumper then after Bird tips in a rebound and buries a hook, Chiles banks in a layup.                           First Half

                          Jacobson converts a 3-point play then after making 1 of 2 free throws, he nails a couple of jumpers. van de Laar sinks a jumper to give Army a 10-0 lead with just under 15:00 remaining. Clifton cans two free throws and after Jacobson hits a jumper, Clifton tips in a rebound and banks in a hook. Jacobson buries a 3pter and puts in a layup but on that play he is injured. van de Laar hits two free throws then after Frye drops in a layup on a fast break, George drills a 3pter and Viegas drains a short turnaround jumper to give the Black Knights a 15-point lead, 23-8, halfway through the first half. Cranford and Jacobson trade jumpers and after Cranford banks in a layup, Jacobson sinks a short jumper from the right block. Cranford and Adams sink hooks then Goodman nails a 3pter to give Army a 14-point lead, 30-16, with just over 5:00 left. Adams cans a hook then after Doyle makes 1 of 2 free throws, Delgado puts in a layup on a fast break. Doyle tips in a rebound then Cable drops in a layup and after Bird hits a hook, Cable buries two free throws to pull Colgate to with 11 points at the half. Army's Jacobson leads all scorers with 19 points and both Clifton and Cranford lead Colgate with 6.

                          Second Half
                          Ramsey banks in a turnaround jumper and after van de Laar swishes a runner, Tangara converts a 3-point play and Hobbs makes 1 of 2 free throws to pull Colgate to within seven, 37-30, with just over 15:00 remaining. Cable and van de Laar trade jumpers then Frye and Norwood trade jumpers as Army's lead is seven points, 41-34, midway through the second half. Schmieder and Clifton both can jumpers then Viegas sinks a hook and Jacobson nails a jumper to give the Black Knights a seven point lead with 5:00 left. Cable puts in a layup and Ramsey nails a turnaround jumper then Jacobson and van de Laar both hit 3pters. Viegas makes 1 of 2 free throws then after Hobbs drops in a layup, Jacobson drills another 3pter. Schmieder drains a hook and Cable banks in a jumper to cut into Army's lead and brings it down to single digits as the game ends.

                                The last time they played this good was probably the NIT years under Coach Bob Knight and Coach K., maybe before you were born.

                                The Army / Navy rivalry looks like it is just as strong and intense in basketball as it is in football from what I've seen at the Black Knights' web site.
