    The Next Coaching Legend.... (CH2K7 - PS3)

    The Particulars

After starting up a CH2K7 Legacy on the PS2 with North Florida, I have decided to pick up the PS3 version of the game and I am loving it! I have decided to start an Open Legacy this time and I have chosen to replace Lon Kruger at Neveda-Las Vegas. The Running Rebels will be coached by the fictional Jim Janis.

UNLV is a member of the Mountain West Conference which includes the following inter-mountain west schools: Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, TCU, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming.

I will once again be using mostly my assistants when it comes to recruiting as I will be making the games themselves the focus of this legacy.

    The Groundwork

    PLATFORM: Playstation 3
    MODE: MOP
    HALF LENGTH: 16 minutes
SLIDERS: I will be using a slightly modified version of Ghetto Star’s MOP Sliders that have been modified by RavenManiac5220.
    ROSTERS: OS CH2K7 Community rosters
RECRUITING: I will be using the recruiting assistance with mininal input on my end. If I start pulling some outrageous recruits, we may add some rules to tone down recruiting.
RED-SHIRTING: Only true freshmen can be red-shirted.
SCHEDULING: We will go with the computer generated schedule in year one and will modify if necessary in the future.

The Down Low on the Running Rebels:

Arena: Thomas & Mack Center (Capacity: 18,500)
    Rivals: Neveda
    2005-06 RECORD: (17-13,10-6)
GRADES: Overall: 82, Offense: 84, Defense: 78, Team Unity 48

          Rebels Lose Opener
          Hawaii Runs Past Rebels 93-81.

Stephen Verwers throws one down hard in the second half to key Hawaii.

          11/10/06
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – The beginning of the Jim Janis era in Las Vegas started with a thud as the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels lost 93-81 to Hawaii on Friday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center. Matt Gibson poured in 23 points to pace the Warriors to victory.

The Rebels scored the first seven points in this one and appeared to be on their way against the Warriors. Michael Umeh hit a three pointer and Hawaii looked a bit rusty early on. But Hawaii fought back and trailed just 43-41 at the break.

The Warriors opened the second half on a 16-4 run to take control. Another 10-0 run later in the game and it looked like the Warriors had iced it, but the Rebels fought back. A 10-0 run late, keyed by a couple of three pointers by Kruger cut the Hawaii lead to just 77-74 with 2:55 left.

That was as close as the Rebels would get and teh Warriors iced it from the line hitting their final nine free throws.

Kevin Kruger led the Rebs with 16 points on five three pointers. Wendell White added 14 points and 10 boards in the losing effort.

Hawaii shot 47% from the field and went 7 for 19 from beyond the arc. UNLV shot just 42% but did hit 10 three pointers on 23 attempts. The Warriors went 24 of 27 from the line but was outrebounded by Vegas 39-37.

Up next for UNLV is a home game on Tuesday evening as they take on Eastern Washington out of the Big Sky Conference.

That was a tough loss to the Rainbow Warriors.

You are correct that you are stepping into a good situation with UNLV. Hopefully Coach Janis can bring the Running Rebels back to the glory days of "Tark the Shark". Good luck in "Sin City".

Thanks for checking in. I am hoping to bring the Rebels back to their glory days of the early 90's! I am absolutely loving the PS3 version of the game too!

Your legacy is excellent too! Keep up the great work.

                  15-0 Run Closes Game

Ivan Elliot puts a exclamation point on UCSB’s upset.

                  11/17/06
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos stunned UNLV on Friday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center with a shocking 90-73 victory over the Rebels. Ivan Elliot scored 23 points on 10 of 17 shooting for the former Big West rival.

The Rebels led this one by as many as 12 in the first half but couldn’t seem to put away the pesky Gauchos and led by only four at the break, 45-41.

The second half was a back and forth affair until late. Vegas was down 75-73 with 1:50 left, but they would not make another point and UCSB hit all of their free throws down the stretch, outscoring UNLV 15-0 over that final stretch.

The Runnin’ Rebels (1-2) were led by Wink Adams who scored 26 points, including five three pointers. Michael Umeh had 22 points. Kevin Kuger added 10 points and seven assists.

Both teams shot pretty well from the floor. Vegas shot 48% while UCSB shot 47%. UNLV made 9 of 21 beyond the arc while the Gauchos made 7 of 22. The big disparity occurred at the free throw line where UNLV made just 8 of 19 (42%) while UCSB sank 15 of 21 (71%). The Gauchos (1-2) dominated on the glass, outrebounding Nevda-Las Vegas 48-28.

The Rebels return to action next Saturday evening as they take on The University of San Francisco at the Thomas & Mack Center.

                      Dons Down Rebels
San Francisco Builds a Big Lead, Then Holds

Manny Quezada hits a big shot from beyond the arc.

                      11/25/06
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – The University of San Francisco came into the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday evening and left with a shocking 90-85 victory over UNLV. The Runnin’ Rebels fell to (1-3) on the young season with a trip to Arizona looming on Tuesday evening.

Manny Quezada led the Dons with 22 points including two huge three pointers in the final minutes to seal the victory.

San Francisco (3-1) got off to a quick start and led by as many as 18 in the first half before settling on a 47-38 halftime lead. UNLV did not seem too interested in playing defense, which led to a bunch of easy baskets for San Francisco.

The Rebels began to heat up from beyond the arc in the second half, led by Wink Adams. Adams, who finished with a game high 31 points, hit five second half three pointers to draw UNLV into an 82-82 tie late in the game. But Manny Quezada stepped up and hit two huge trifecta’s to put it away.

Vegas shot 43% from the floor and held the Dons to just 39%, but the difference in this one came from the free throw line where USF made 29 of 38 free throws (76%) compared to just six of nine for UNLV.

UNLV made 11 of 28 three pointers while USF shot 7 of 21. Both teams ended up with 46 reboounds.

UNLV now heads to Tucson on Tuesday evening for a matchup with #7 Arizona.

Tucson, AZ (AP) – The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels came to Tucson with just one win, but could easily have been undefeated. There was no mistaking the better team on Tuesday night as Arizona took the Rebels out behind the woodshed with a 90-67 thrashing of UNLV. Jawaan McClellan and Chase Budinger each tossed in 18 points apiece to lead the Wildcats.

The outcome was never in doubt in this one as Arizona built a 59-40 lead at the break and led by as many as 33 early in the second half. The Rebels managed to hold Arizona under 100 after the Wildcats emptied their bench about midway through the second half.

Wink Adams led the Rebels with 22 points on 9 of 14 shooting including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.

Arizona shot a season high 56% from the floor and made 25 of their 31 free throws to secure the easy win.

The Rebels (1-4) will try to regroup as they travel to Northern Arizona (1-3) on Saturday evening.

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) – On Saturday evening, the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels ran into a buzzsaw as the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks hammered the Rebels 97-71. Nick Larsen led the Lunberjacks (2-3) with 20 points and 7 rebounds.

Northern Arizona took this one over in the first half as they came out on fire hitting their first 11 shots en route to a 62-41 lead at the half. They shot 71% in the first half and hit 9 of 12 three pointers.

Northern Arizona’s only other win on the year was a 19 point victory at Arizona. The same team that blew out UNLV earlier this week.

Coach Janis was furious afterwards. “We need to learn how to play defense. We can score, we just cannot stop anybody!”

Wendell White led UNLV (1-5) with 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Lumberjacks shot 52% from the field while Vegas shot 38%. UNLV was just 9 of 33 from beyond the arc while NAU went 0 for 10 in the second half and shot 9 of 22 on the game. Northern Arizona has 26 assists and outrebounded UNLV 50-32.

UNLV will continue their road trip as they visit Hawaii on Tuesday evening. The Rebels lost 93-81 in the season opener.
