Re: The Next Coaching Legend.... (CH2K7 - PS3)

TCU and SDSU certainly put a hurtin' on your Rebs but at least you broke the losing streak by defeating the Lobos. Hopefully you can get on a roll during the second half of the MWC schedule in time for the conference's post season tournament.

(PS, I think that I might stay here instead of posting here and at MM. There doesn't seem to be much feedback over there)
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.

          Rams Crush Rebels
          Hot Shooting Rams Blowout Rebels

Freddy Robinson scores two of his thirteen points.

          1/30/07
Fort Collins, CO (AP) – The Colorado State Rams evened up their record on Wednesday evening at home as they blew out visiting UNLV 72-53. The Rams were led by Jason Smith who had 14 points and hauled in 16 rebounds in the win.

The Rams were never really threatened after closing the first half on a 19-5 run to take a 44-25 lead into the locker room.

Coach Janis was furious afterwards. “We need to learn to play team defense and we need to work on our rebounding. I know that I sound like a broken record, but we are a lousy rebounding team and that is why we cannot compete in this league!”

Colorado State (9-9,4-4) outrebounded UNLV 39-15 including 23-4 in the first half.

The Rebels were led by senior captain Kevin Kruger who had 16 points and 6 assists.

UNLV (9-13,2-6) will now travel to Provo for a Saturday evening game at last place BYU (8-13,1-7).

          Colorado State 72, UNLV 53

          5/10 FTs
          Kevin Kruger – 16 points, 6 assists
          Michael Umeh – 13 points, 2 assists

          Colorado State Rams:

          Jason Smith – 14 points, 16 rebounds

Man bigj, you're having a pretty tough time with Rebels. Good luck the rest of the way.

                  Cougars Knock Off Rebels
Vegas Continues to Struggle in Road Loss.

                  Jimmy Balderson with a layup.

                  2/03/07
Provo, UT (AP) – A year that looked to be so promising is turning into a nightmare for the University of Neveda-Las Vegas. On Saturday evening at the Marriott Center the season stooped to a new low as UNLV lost 84-74 to last place BYU.

Jimmy Balderson led the way for BYU with 18 points and he pulled down five rebounds. The Cougars won this one at the charity stripe as they converted on 28 of 31 free throws in a game where they just pounded UNLV down low. Taking advantage of the absence of Wendell White, the Cougars (9-13,2-7) scored 36 points in the paint to go along with their 28 free throws.

UNLV (9-14,2-7) was paced by senior Kevin Kruger who scored 19 points and dished out 7 assists. This senior laden team is now tied for last place in teh Mountain West in a season where expectations were pretty high.

“We just need to work harder. Rebounding is a good indication of how hard you work and we get outrebounded every game.” Jim Janis after UNLV was outrebounded again (41-39) in the road loss.

The Rebels led this one by as many as eight in the first half, but a late 10-2 run sent the teams to halftime tied at 39-39.

BYU opened the second half on a 17-9 run and never looked back. UNLV shot a miserable 9 for 35 from beyond the arc (26%).

Up next for UNLV is a Wednesday evening rematch at home with TCU, a team that blew out the Rebels on the road back on January 20th.

                      Revenge Is Sweet!
UNLV Returns the Favor in 67-49 Romp

Michael Umeh hits one of his three 3 point field goals.

                      2/07/07
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – Revenge was certainly sweet on Wednesday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center as UNLV rebounded from an earlier drubbing at the hands of TCU and returned the favor with a 67-49 blowout victory. Michael Umeh led the way with 19 points on three of four shooting from beyond the arc.

The Horned Frogs (8-15,5-5) were ice cold from the field in the first half as UNLV held them to just 19% shooting. TCU made just one of 12 three pointers in the first half. The Rebels led this one by as many as 30 before setting on a 41-15 halftime lead.

The second half was another story as TCU stepped up the defensive pressure with a full court press and starting hitting some shots. They got as close as 12, cutting the Rebels lead to 57-45, but the Rebels closed the door and won the game going away.

Interesting to note, Coach Janis went primarily with backups in this one following a poor performance at BYU. Of UNLV’s starters, only Kevin Kruger played more than a half in this one. True freshman point guard Marcus Lawrence played the most minutes, logging 18.

“Did I send a message? You tell me,” was all coach Janis offered afterwards. The Rebels outrebounded TCU 44-30 after being outrebounded 38-21 in the prior 18 point loss at TCU.

The Rebels return to action on Saturday evening as the host Wyoming (10-11,4-6). The Cowboys defeated UNLV 73-71 in Laramie back on January 10th.

                      UNLV 67, TCU 49

Player of the Game: Michael Umeh (UNLV) 19 points, 2 assists, 3/4 3pt FGs

                      UNLV Runnin’ Rebels:

                      Jerome Johnson – 8 points, 9 rebounds

                        UNLV Wins Back-to-Back Games

                        2/10/07
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – The University of Neveda-Las Vegas won their second straight game on Saturday evening with a come from behind 68-64 victory over the Wyoming Cowboys. Kevin Kruger led the way with 19 points including 10 free throws which were critical down the stretch.

This UNLV team has struggled to rebound and make free throws all season. They were outrebounded again on Saturday by Wyoming (42-25), but they had a great night at the charity stripe. They made 24 of 32 free throws (75%) and went 8 for 8 in the final minute.

The Cowboys (10-12,4-7) led this one most of the way. They held a slim 32-30 halftime lead, and led by as many as nine in the second half, but they could not put UNLV away. Brandon Ewing, the Mountain West’s leading scorer got into early foul trouble and finished the game with just seven points, thirteen below his season average.

UNLV went on a 13-2 run late in the second half to turn a 56-47 defecit into a 60-59 lead when Michael Umeh hit a big three from the corner. UNLV would not make another field goal, but made all eight free throws down the stretch to seal their fourth conference win on the year.

James Spence led the Cowboys with 19 points and three rebounds.

The Rebels will hit the road next week for games at San Diego State (14-9,6-4) and Utah (14-7,8-3).

                        UNLV 68, Wyoming 64

Player of the Game: Kevin Kruger (UNLV) 19 points, 5 assists, 10/15 FTs

                        Michael Umeh – 13 points, 3 rebounds
                        Wink Adams – 11 points
