BigJ wtffff is going on with your Rebs?! You guys should be a bit better than that with the talent you have on your roster. Regardless keep this going I check all of your entries whether its here or over at MM. I had thought about doing one as well I was tryna decide between Kentucky or some mid major. Of course I wouldnt have all of the fancy pics.

BTW did you find away to reset the win-loss record for the coach or did you just ignore it?

Unfortunately, when I created the fictional Jim Janis, it keeps all of Lon Kruger's records and attributes. It even gives you 19 points to apply to improve his attributes (which I declined to use).

I think that I am going to try some new sliders tonight. The ones I am using are just killing me right now. My Rebels seem to play no defense whatsoever as evidenced by some of the high shooting percentages of my opponents, especially from beyond the arc.

Thanks for checking in! I love having reading and enjoy the feedback.

        The Streak Is Over
Rebels Avenge Early Season Loss to Defeat Warriors.

Wink Adams nails a late game three to secure the victory.

        12/8/06
Honolulu, HI (AP) – It wasn’t pretty but UNLV ended a four game slide on Tuesday evening at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu as they held on to defeat Hawaii 70-67. Wink Adams led the Rebels with 14 points, including a couple a big three pointers in the closing minutes.

The win for UNLV avenged a season opening 93-81 loss to Hawaii at the Thomas & Mack Center on November 10th.

After a tough few days of practice following back-to-back blowout losses, the Runnin’ Rebels seemed to get the point on Tuesday evening. Defense, or lack therof, led to the Rebels four game skid. In Hawaii, the Rebels stepped it up on the defensive end and pulled out a hard fought victory.

UNLV led 35-23 at the half. That was quite a feat in itself, considering that they had given up 168 points in the first half of the past three games (an average of 56 points). The Warriors would not go quietly though. Trailing 64-52 late, the Warriors went into a full court press to force some turnovers and UNLV missed the front end of three straight one-and-ones to make it interesting.

Luckily, Wink Adams buried three pointers in back-to-back possessions to seal the win and the Rebsl losing streak.

UNLV shot 46% from the field on the night, but went just 7 of 25 from beyond the arc. Hawaii shot 39% from the field and 5 for 24 from beyond the arc. The Warriors outrebounded UNLV 44-39

UNLV ends their four game road trip on Saturday night as they visit arch-rival #5 Neveda in Reno.

          Instant Classic
UNLV Drops Double Overtime Heartbreaker to Rival Neveda

Nick Fazekas ices the game with two critical free throws at the end of the second overtime.

          12/09/06
Reno, NV (AP) – This is the Runnin’ Rebels team that everyone expected to see this season. Unfortunately, they came up on the short end of a thriller in Reno on Saturday evening as they dropped a 104-103 double overtime game to arch-rival and fifth-ranked Neveda. Kevin Kruger poured in 32 points on 8 of 12 shooting from beyond the arc and added 8 assists in the loss.

This one had all the making of a Neveda (6-1) blowout through most of regulation. Neveda led 45-33 at the half and scored the first six points of the second half to take their biggest lead at 51-33. But the Rebels never gave up. They played tenacious defense and shot lights out from beyond the arc, hitting 17 of 32 three pointers to get themselves back into the game.

UNLV (2-6) had a chance to win in regulation, but Michael Umeh missed two free throws with 7.6 seconds left after drawing a foul in the lane by Nick Fazekus, the pre-season All-American. A last second shot by Ramon Sessions fell short and we went to overtime tied at 66-66.

In the first overtime, Nick Fazekas had a chance to win it from the line, but he missed his second free throw with 11.1 seconds left. He redeemed himself by blocking a Wendell White layup as time expired to send the game into double overtime, tied at 82-82.

In the second overtime, Neveda took a five point lead with 37.6 second left, but UNLV woul dnot go away. Wink Adams hit a three, Neveda made three of four free throws to go back up by five with 20.8 left. After a Joe Darger layup, Neveda made two free throws, Kruger then hit a three to cut the lead to 102-100.

Nick Fazekas was then fouled and rattled both free throws home to secure the win. Kruger hit his eighth three pointer at the buzzer to make the final 104-103.

UNLV shot 55% from the floor in this one while Neveda shot 47%. The Rebels made a season high 17 three pointers on 32 attempts. The problem in this one was free throw shooting. UNLV made just 4 of 15 free throws while Neveda converted on 25 of 31 from the charity stripe.

It was a relatively clean game as Neveda had 22 Assists and only 4 turnovers while UNLV had 18 assists and just 6 turnovers. The Wolfpack outrebounded UNLV 45-34 and did mange 17 offensive rebounds.

“I have to hand it to these guys. They have worked hard the past few days trying to improve defensively and I think that tonight showed the kind of team that we have here. Let’s hope that this game serves as a springboard for the rest of our season.” Coach Janis on his team’s effort.

UNLV will return to action next Sunday when they take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Thomas & Mack Center in the first of three games in three nights.

              Deja Vu?
Rebels Play Second Straight Double Overtime Game

Josh Washington (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) nails a 15 foot buzzer beater to send the game into double overtime.

              12/17/06
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – Bigjdotcom01 changed sliders and all of the sudden this Legacy had had three straight barn burners. On Sunday evening at the Thomas & Mack Center, UNLV outlasted a very game Texas A&M-Corpus Christi squad 111-104 in double overtime. Kevin Kruger had another huge game as he led the Runnin’ Rebels with 31 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

UNLV trailed by 13 at the half, 43-30, as they shot just 24% from the floor and played some very lax defense. A different UNLV team emerged after halftime as they stormed out of the gates on a 22-8 run to take their first lead, 52-51 with just 7:13 left in regulation.

The game would be a back and forth affair from that point on. Kevin Kruger hit a runner in the lane with 37.3 left in regulation to tie it at 77-77. The Islanders held for the last shot, but Josh Washington’s ten footer hit the front of the iron as the shot clock expired and Wendell White grabbed the critical rebound to send this one into overtime.

In the overtime, UNLV (3-6) took an eight point lead at 93-85 and it appeared as though the game was in hand. Not so fast my friend.....after Gaston Essengue made just one of two free throws to put the Rebels up 95-93 with 22.5 left, the Islanders went down and this time Josh Washington hit from the left wing, a 15 footer to send the game into double overtime as the clock expired!

In the double overtime, it was all UNLV. The depth took over and so did Kevin Kruger and Wink Adams. They combined for all 16 of UNLV’s points in the session. Adams would finish with 19 points, just off of his average.

The same old problems seem to keep haunting UNLV, free-throw shooting and periods of lax defense. The Rebels went 20 of 39 from the line (51%) while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went 22 of 24 (92%) to keep this one close. UNLV made 13 of 29 three pointers and shot 48% from the floor. The Rebels outrebounded the Islanders 53-50.

UNLV will play the second of three straight tomorrow evening as they take on Norfolk State at 7pm.

                  Buzzer Beater!
Kevin Kruger, Mr. Clutch, Hits Three at Buzzer For Victory

Kevin Kruger hits the game winning three at the buzzer!

                  12/18/07
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – Kevin Kruger walked on to UNLV because his dad Lon Kruger was the coach. When Lon stepped down due to health reasons, Kevin decided to stay and everyone at UNLV is glad that he did.

Kevin Kruger nailed a desperation three pointer at the buzzer on Monday night as UNLV avoided a big upset and stunned Norfolk State 72-71. Kruger scored a game high 22 points connecting on four of six three pointers and hitting 10 of 14 free throws.

“I came here because my dad was the coach. Once he had to step down, I just couldn’t walk away from these guys. I am glad that I stayed,” a jubilant Kevin Kruger afterwards.

Norfolk State (1-7) was stunned by the buzzer beater a night after hitting a buzzer beater in overtime to upset South Florida, 51-50. Tony Murphy led the Spartans with 14 points and 4 assists.

Murphy hit a jumper in the lane with 3.2 seconds left. UNLV did not call a timeout and inbounded to Kruger. He went the length of the court and nailed the game winner as the clock expired sending the UNLV bench into a wild celebration.

Wink Adams added 19 points for the Rebels who won back-to-back games for the first time this year.

Norfolk State shot 52% from the field and held UNLV to 40%. They also outrebounded the Rebels 34-31.

UNLV (4-6) will close out the Duel in the Desert tomorrow evening when they host South Florida (7-2).

                    Last Minute Escape
Rebels Beat Bulls On Last Minute Basket.

Kevin Kruger steals an inbound pass with just 27 seconds left.

                    12/19/07
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels trailed the South Florida Bulls for 39 minutes and 40 seconds on Tuesday evening. Fortunately for the Rebels, the 20 seconds that they led were the final ones as Kevin Kruger stole and inbounds pass and found a wide open Wink Adams who converted a layup with just 19.8 seconds left in regulation time to help UNLV win their third straight game, 62-60.

South Florida (7-3) led by as many as 11 three seperate times in the game and as late as with just 4 minutes left. But the Rebels, who struggled mightily for beyond the arc, found their range late. After starting out 2-21 from beyond the arc, the Rebels hit five of their final six from deep to pull out the improbable win.

Wink Adams led the Rebels with 21 points, including hitting 9 of 11 from the free throw line. Kevin Kruger added 16 points and had a season high four steals.

Melvin Buckley led South Florida with 19 points, while Kentrell Gransberry added eight points and 13 rebounds.

UNLV (5-6) shot just 39% from the field but managed to go 11 for 16 from the line (69%) which is an improvement over their recent woes. The Bulls outrebounded UNLV 39-26.

                    UNLV 62, South Florida 60

Player of the Game: Wink Adams (UNLV) 21 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 9/11 FTs

                      Rebels Cruise Past Gophers
UNLV on a Four Game Winning Streak

Kevin Kruger nails one of his four three pointers on the night.

                      12/22/06
Las Vegas, NV (AP) – The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels are starting to hit their stride just as Coach Jim Janis had hoped. After a sluggish start to the season, the Rebels have rung up four straight wins including Friday evenings blowout of the University of Minnesota, 65-53. Kevin Kruger led the way with 17 points on four of four shooting from beyond the arc.

UNLV (6-6) jumped out to an early 12 points lead and were never really threatened again. The Gophers (6-6) opened the second half on a 5-0 run to cut the Rebels lead to 32-29, but that would be as close as the Golden Gophers would get.

The Rebels would lead by as many as 20 in the second half and finally needed no end of the game miracles to keep their win streak alive.

“We are starting to play better defensive basketball and we are taking care of the ball. Less turnovers, which in turn creates less fast break opportunities for our opponents,” said a delighted Coach Janis afterwards.

Lawrence McKenzie led the Gophers with 15 points. Dan Coleman chipped in 14 points for the Gophers, out of the Big Ten.

On th evening, the Gophers shot 42% from the floor as opposed to UNLV’s 39%. Minnesota, however, turned the ball over 17 times which really negated Vegs’ lack of rebounding. Teh Gophers outrebounded UNLV 40-25 and 14-9 on the offensive end.

The Rebels will next travel to Lubbock, Texas on Thursday evening to take on Coach Bob Knight and Texas Tech.
