Nervewracking as hell. I kept waiting out their pitchers for the right one to crank out of the ballpark...all the while waiting for the other shoe to drop and have them beat my pitching.

        Always good to be wrong.

Congratulations on winning the American league Championship Series! The way you did it reminded me of the way the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS. Maybe you can sweep the World Series just like the Red Sox did in 2004!

How about this for irony...Tim Wakefield pitching AGAINST Boston in Game 4 of the World Series. Quite a story.

Wait a second. Since, as you know, I boycotted your dynasty there for awhile...

WHEN DID YOU RELEASE/TRADE WAKEFIELD TO THE METS?!?!?!

Any rooting for you I did is taken back.

(only adding this because you're a mod and it will at least bluntly show that I am joking. You're lucky you're green.)

Clemens yearns to finish off Mets this time around

                          October 25, 2007

NEW YORK - The Red Sox won the World Series against the Cardinals in 2004, but there are still some bitter memories amongst Red Sox Nation. Bitter memories that can be invoked with a few choice words.

Words like "Game 6". Or "1986". "Buckner". "Ray Knight". "McNamara".

The ghosts of 1986 still haunt the older generations of Red Sox fans who had to live through it, and although those ghosts were quelled by the World Championship three seasons ago, meeting the Mets in the World Series has brought back some of the terrible, gutwrenching anguish of yesteryear.

And now, as fate might have it, the Red Sox have a chance for ultimate closure.

On October 25th, 1986, Roger Clemens took the mound for the Red Sox in Shea Stadium against the Mets, with an opportunity to finish off New York and win the World Series for Boston.

Clemens didn't lose, but he didn't win, and neither did the Red Sox.

Now, on October 25th, 2007, 21 years to the day, Clemens - #21 - will take the mound once again in Shea Stadium, against the Mets, looking to close out this year's World Series in 5 games.

"It's definitely eerie, how similar things are. I'm tryin' not to focus on any of that, but I'd be lyin' if I said I wasn't amused by the similarities," Clemens told a lockerroom full of reporters.

"Ya know, if it comes down to it, and Papi has a ground ball go through his legs and Jose Reyes scores the winning run...I dunno 'bout y'all, but I think I might just retire right then and there, because that would just be too much," Clemens said with a chuckle.

If that happens, nobody - not even Clemens - will be laughing.

21 years ago, Clemens was beginning his career, at age 23, in his third year.

Now, 21 years later, Clemens is playing in what may be his final game, and he is determined to finish what he left unfinished in 1986.
