Re: UNC Tar Heels (NCAA 2008)
What you need to know about the offense:
The offense only cranked out 293 yards and 18 points per game with fits of wild inconsistency. Expect a bit more of the same with a young team still trying to figure out who the starters are going to be, but the overall production should be better. Step one is to determine who the quarterback will be to handle the passing game that'll run three and four wide sets. T.J. Yates was the star of spring ball, but he'll have to hold off star freshman Mike Paulus. There are plenty of good, inexperienced running backs to work with, and Hakeem Nicks is a potential star number one receiver. However, there aren't any certainties in the depth chart quite yet. The line will be serviceable, but nothing special.
Star of the offense: Sophomore WR Hakeem Nicks
Player that has to step up and become a star: Redshirt freshman QB T.J. Yates
Unsung star on the rise: Yates
Best pro prospect: Nicks
Top three all-star candidates: 1) Nicks, 2) OT Garrett Reynolds, 3) OG Calvin Darity
Strength of the offense: Experienced offensive line, tight end prospects
Weakness of the offense: Experienced skill players
What you need to know:
It might take a year to turn things around after a disastrous 2006, but the young talent is there to get really, really excited. The defensive line has a slew of great prospects to work with, while the back seven has athleticism and quickness by design with a smallish linebacking corps. The return of Trimaine Goddard at safety will be a big help for the secondary, while the hopeful emergence of more pass rushing help for end Hilee Taylor should help the coaching staff implement it's attacking, aggressive style.
Star of the defense: Senior LB Durell Mapp
Player that has to step up and become a star: Sophomore DE E.J. Wilson
Unsung star on the rise: Redshirt freshman FS Shaun Droughn
Best pro prospect: Freshman DT Marvin Austin
Top three all-star candidates: 1) Mapp, 2) DE Hilee Taylor, 3) FS Trimaine Goddard
Strength of the defense: Young prospects, athleticism on the defensive line
Weakness of the defense: Proven players, no experienced depth

Re: UNC Tar Heels (NCAA 2008)
Yea I'm just gonna use freewebs to host all the stats and stuff. Game recaps will have some photos and pics and they will be posted in the thread.
I had to stop being Notre Dame because it was way too easy. I want a challenge and I also don't want to worry about trying to be as realistic as possible. With ND I feel like my seasons would be scripted. Like OK, I'm going 8-4 (before the season started). With UNC I'm just going to play my best every game and try to win.Comment

UNC Routes JMU in Season Opener, 59-3
Game Summary
This game was over quickly. UNC got on the board within the first minute on a 8 yard TD run by So. HB Richie Rich (Yes that is the coolest name ever). After a UNC defensive touchdown by CB Jermaine Strong and another Rich TD run, it was 21-0 by the time the first quarter ended.
The final three quarter would see UNC score 38 more points to the lone field goal JMU could muster. UNC gave up some cheap passing yards in the game but they followed the "bend but don't break" philosophy. They held strong whenever JMU tried to put anything together and made the score depict what type of game it was, a blowout.
Key Stats --- UNC
Fr. QB T.J. Yates : 10-19, 127 yds, 2 TD, INT
The INT was atrocious! He threw the ball about 20 yards away from his intended receiver. I felt like doing thisto him
So. HB Richie Rich : 24 car, 183 yds, 7.6 avg, 4 TD, long of 72
Fr. HB Anthony Elzy : 7 car, 103 yds, 14.7 avg, TD, long of 67 (video below)
So. WR Hakeem Nicks : 3 rec, 12 yds, TD
So. TE Vince Jacobs : 1 rec, 14 yds, TD
Jr. MLB Chase Rice : 10 tack, 4 TFL, sack
So. FS Shaun Draughn : 8 tack, INT, 2 Pass Defl
So. CB Jermaine Strong : 3 tack, INT, TD
*JMU did not have any stats because EA neglected division I-AA schools!
UNC HB Richie Rich catches a pass in the flats and gets a 30 yard gain
Jermaine Strong high steps his way into the endzone for the Heels and a 14-0 lead.

East Carolina gets huge home victory over Tar Heels
Game Summary
Basically ECU got the momentum early as Richie Rich fumbled the ball away to the Pirates on UNC's first drive. ECU was unstoppable for some reason on offense, maybe they were hyped to be playing the Tar Heels. Whatever it was, it was amazing. They took a 24-0 lead after the first quarter! UNC would crawl back into the game scoring 14 points in the second quarter on a couple touchdown runs.
With the 3rd quarter opening up 24-14 in favor of the home team, UNC wanted to stop them right away to get the momentum on their side. This didn't happen as ECU was able to knock a FG through to make it 27-14. After a UNC punt would pin ECU on their 2, HB Chris Johnson would dust the UNC defense on his way to a 98-yard touchdown run.
The fourth quarter saw UNC actually have a chance to win the ball game. The Heels entered the frame trailing 34-14, meaning they would need three TDs to take the lead. Well they scored easily on their first drive and got a quick interception on ECU's next possession. They would punch it in from short and cut the lead to 34-28. Well UNC would then stop ECU cold and would have a chance to take the lead. However, UNC QB T.J. Yates would end up taking a crucial sack and a poor pass by the Freshman would end the potential game-winning drive. ECU would get the ball and Johnson would bust another long TD run to make it 42-28 with the 2-pt conversion. UNC didn't have any time to comeback and fell hard to a team they should've beat.
I didn't feel like taking pics/photos because I was a little angry!

Re: UNC Tar Heels (NCAA 2008)
I'm about to play the game right now. It is definitely going to be tough. They have an athletic QB but I think I can neutralize that with my fast LB's. My upside is a lot of young athleticism on my squad. Obviously experience is not there and hopefully they can be in the right place at the right time. Offensively I just want to take care of the football.
It's almost a must-win situation because the schedule coming up looks like this:
@ USF
@ #6 Virginia Tech
vs. Miami (Fl)
South Carolina
If I lose 1-6 could be a possibility. I really need to get some momentum! The ECU loss was devastating.

UNC redeems themselves with huge ACC win over UVA
Game Summary
The Heels moved the ball up and down the field easily all game. Hakeem Nicks had a career day with 247 receiving yards and 3 TDs. Nicks and QB T.J. Yates could not be stopped. The passing game way simply on fire and worked to perfection all game.
UNC's defense was also up to the task. They forced four turnovers and only allowed a first quarter touchdown. This is promising because they were burnt badly by ECU last week.
UNC starting HB Richie Rich had another mediocre week with only 35 yards on 19 carries while his backup, Fr. Anthony Elzy had 53 yards on 11 carries and 2 TDs. Another sub par week by Rich may lead to a change of starters, so note that Rich is on the "hot seat".
Overall it was just a great performance by the entire UNC squad. Defense was great and the offense put up a lot of points. It was a good sign for UNC faithful.
UNC So. WR Hakeem Nicks had an amazing day with 200+ yards and 3 TDs.
Fr. QB T.J. Yates takes a hard hit but delivers a great ball for another TD.

Super James' #5 WVU Mountaineers (3-0)
The #5 WVU squad, led by Steve Slaton and his 4 rushing TDs, blew out the Maryland Terrapins 46-26.

No recap becuase here's all you need to know...the game has been on All-American the past two games. I did not know this and had already saved the game, so I will now switch it back to Heisman and will probably come crashing down to reality.
