Re: UNC Tar Heels (NCAA 2008)
Well you're the only one to vote and probably the only one so the winner is "Bombs Away". I would've voted for that anyways, good choice.
Well I'm gonna have everything updated by tonight. Just working on Dreamweaver a little bit to get all the info put in.Comment

Re: UNC Tar Heels (NCAA 2008)
What you need to know about the offense:
Despite having to use all three quarterbacks last season the Tar Heels were able to put up 33 points a game. Cam Sexton established himself as the #1 QB during the last 5 game of the season in which Carolina went 4-1. There appears to be a budding star at HB with Anthony Elzy as he rushed for 1,236 yards and 12 TDs last year. Freshman Gary Haley will get some carries as well for UNC, as the speedy recruit was promised solid playing time. Basically UNC has a lot of speed at the skills positions and will try and create yards in open space. The o-line is decent with a veteran group but they lack superior talent. The loss of Connor Barth is going to hurt UNC, as freshman kicker A.J. Nash is sporadic at best.
Star of the offense: Junior WR Hakeem Nicks
Player that has to step up and become a star: Junior QB Cam Sexton
Unsung star on the rise: Sophomore HB Anthony Elzy
Best pro prospect: Junior WR Hakeem Nicks
Top three all-star candidates:
1) Junior WR Hakeem Nicks
2) Sophomore HB Anthony Elzy
3) Senior Guard Calvin Darity
Strength of the offense: Skills position speed
Weakness of the offense: Talent on the o-line
What you need to know about the defense:
There are 7 returning starters on defense but DE Hilee Taylor and SS Trimane Goddard are going to be difficult to replace. The #1 recruit in the nation, Blake Manigat looks to show he's worth the rep as he's going to start at FS. Fellow freshman J.J. Williams is going to start at OLB. This duo is going to be asked to make some big plays and be consistent. The defense played very well as a group over the last 5 games of the season and they hope to carry that over to '08. Marvin Austin will look to be even more of a force at DT and hopefully the other d-linemen will get pressure on the QB. This group isn't overly talented, but hopefully they play well as a unit.
Star of the defense: Sophomore DT Marvin Austin
Player that has to step up and become a star: Junior OLB Wesley Flagg
Unsung star on the rise: Junior CB Jermaine Strong
Best pro prospect: Sophomore DT Marvin Austin
Top three all-star candidates:
1) Sophomore DT Marvin Austin
2) Senior MLB Chase Rice
3) Freshman FS Blake Manigat
Strength of the defense: Solid core of veterans who play well together
Weakness of the defense: Extremely thin at linebacker and d-line
What the experts say...
Well the Tar Heels are #45 in the preseason polls and picked to finish the ACC #7. Basically experts believe that the Heels are not as good as advertised last season. 9 of 11 ACC teams are in the top 50, which is remarkable. Only Maryland (#74) and Duke (#104) are outside that group. That means the ACC is going to be one heck of a challenge this year. Add in three very tough SEC games against Auburn, Georgia, and South Carolina and you have a nightmarish schedule. A bowl game would probably be a good season for the Heels, but we'll see what happens.

Auburn makes big 4th quarter comeback in opener
This one hurt.
I had the game in control and things just got away. Momentum went from one extreme to the other. There were 8 turnovers in the game but it wasn't a big deal. There was one play they fumbled, I recovered, and then I fumbled and they recovered. To be honest it didn't kill the game at all, just looks bad in the stat sheet.
GaTech up next, they crushed Notre Dame in their opener 37-7 I believe.
superjames - Your boys are #4 and 1-0. Slaton sad see ya later so "he gone".Comment

Well, at least you showed you can compete with the "big boys".
I hope Slaton doesn't leave early for the NFL in my WVU dynasty!Comment

Heels edge Jackets in home opener
Stewaat's Notre Dame Fighting Irish (0-2)
It's not looking good for the Irish as they lost to Penn State 27-38. Things don't get any easier as #3 Michigan rolls into South Bend. Demetrius Jones is the starter, he went 10-23 with 4 INTs against Penn State. Hey Charlie, put in Clausen!
superjames' #4 WVU Mountaineers (2-0)
They barely edged Maryland 23-21. Noel Devine is no Steve Slaton, as he only had 92 rushing yards and one TD. Pat White needs to step it up, 9 car for 11 yards.
Q-bert's Pittsburgh Panthers (1-0)
Took down UCF 35-21 in their season opener. Oderick Turner had 6 catches for 192 yards and 2 TDs. Not a bad way to start the season.Comment

Heels improve to 3-0 at home
Fellow OS'ers Favorite Team Information
Stewaat's Notre Dame Fighting Irish (0-4)
Their schedule has been brutal. They finally came close to winning as they dropped a heartbreaker 31-34 against Michigan State. They have a much needed bye week and then a lovely trip to #10 Arkansas (3-0).
Superjames' #3 WVU Mountaineers (3-0)
Well Noel Devine is starting to do better and he's #5 on the Heisman race list. WVU has a tough 3 games coming up. (#21 Syracuse, #18 Rutgers, @ #14 Louisville)
Q-bert's Pittsburgh Panthers (2-1)
Pitt dropped a tough one to Navy (1-3) 26-31. A 24-7 first half deficit was too much to overcome.Comment

Tar Heels Shock Maryland with Huge Comeback
Well the stats aren't under the game recap for some reason, so here's a brief recap of the game.
Maryland came out playing extremely well and took a 21-17 lead after the first half. Their quarterback, Josh Portis, was on fire. He would finish the game with 5 TD passes. Maryland would continue to be unstoppable with the ball and would stretch the lead to 35-20 early in the fourth quarter. UNC sophomore HB Anthony Elzy would cut it to 35-27 on a 72-yard run straight up the middle.
After a Maryland punt UNC would give the ball to freshman HB Gary Haley, who would break free for a 57-yard TD to make it 35-33. UNC would get the 2-point conversion on a QB sneak by Cam Sexton, making it 35-35 with 4 minutes remaining.
On Maryland's next possession Josh Portis would throw his 5th touchdown pass of the game, giving the Terps a 42-35 lead with 3 minutes left. Anthony Elzy would respond with a touchdown of his own with 1:05 left on the clock. Marlyand would fail to score and the game would be sent to OT.
In OT UNC had the first offensive possession and was held to a FG, opening the door for Maryland to pull off the upset. Well freshman safety Blake Manigat would ruin those hopes as he picked off a Josh Portis pass on 3rd and 6 to end the game and to extend UNC's winning streak to 5 games.
