I actually got a soft verbal from Orlando Jackson, the #1 recruit. If he does sign with me that will give me three very fast HB's next year. Haley has 99 speed, so I think that is a huge reason why he is so good. Jackson has 97 speed, or a 4.20 in the game. Shawn Sanders, 99 speed, 4.16. So pair that with my QB, Ray Mathis, who will have at least 87 speed, and you are talking about one great combo. Haley will be a senior and the starter to begin the season, no matter who comes in. But, everyone is going to see the field. If you're good enough, I'm finding a spot for you. I might even put one of the freshmen as a slot receiver if their hands are good.
Washington is going to get to start the final three games no matter what. He will at least get the opportunity to do well against Navy and Duke. Haley actually leads the team in receptions with 36, but he has only 279 yards, a 7.7 avg. Wow he nearly rushes for as many yards per touch. Early in the season I went with Hawaii's playbook to spread the field and use my speed. Haley caught a lot of balls early, but he's cooled off since. Here are some of his ratings, he was the #277 recruit in my first recruiting class, a 4-star prospect:
88 OVR, 81 TRK, 76 ELU, 81 CAR, 79 SFA, 76 JKM, 92 SPM, 73 CATCH, 99 SPD, 94 AGI, 91 ACC, 95 INJ, 89 STA
I've done pretty well recruiting, I've had the #10, #20, and #30 recruiting classes in my first three tries. Blake Manigat was the #1 recruit overall and landing him really boosted my recruiting confidence. Shawn Sanders is from North Carolina, therefore recruiting him was a little easier. Orlando Jackson if from Florida, which is a pipeline state of mine, so getting him is a little tougher. Despite the soft verbal I still need to watch out for FSU and Auburn, they are #2 and #3 respectively on his list.
Oh, and Ray Mathis surprised me quite a bit. I had no real reason to recruit him but I saw his speed and went after him. He's progressed very nicely in his time at UNC. He's not super accurate, but he has good arm strength and can escape the pocket. I like to spread the field and use short routes then occasionally try a deep ball.
