Senators Report

(18-4-0-2)

Ottawa has been the top team in the Eastern conference and in the NHL are second to the Anahiem Ducks. The Sens won 13 out of 14 in November, allowing more than 2 goals only twice. Ottawa is once again the team to beat and the fans in Ottawa are selling out the ScotiaBank Place every home game supporting their winning team as much as possible.

All the players on Ottawa's active roster has a point, with 9 of them in double digits. Patrick Eaves has been the main weapon with 10 goals and 10 assists, leading Ottawa. Ottawa's first line of Heatley-Spezza-Alfredsson, nicknamed the "Pizza Line" by Ottawa fans have combined for a total of 23 goals and 47 points,.

Ottawa started the year in net with Emery, and Gerber combined with Guard and Glass in the minors. With pressure from Ottawa fans, Ottawa traded away Gerber to Montreal in return for Halak a second year goalie. Before compelting the trade Ottawa signed rookie goaltender Andy Chiodo. Chiodo beat out Halak for the back-up position and is now in the minors.

Patrick Lalime first came to Ottawa in 1999 and took Ottawa to the Eastern conference championship in 2002-2003 before losing to New Jersey. Lalime had a record 39 wins and 8 shutouts, this was Ottawa most succesful regular season. Lalime was traded after the 2003-2004 season after only winning 25 games, Ottawa fans do not like him at all. Lalime will be returning to Ottawa though, hopefully in his 2002-2003 form. He was picked up off of waivers and is on the Binghamton roster at this moment. Lalime could give Ottawa a veteren back-up, with a smaller contract that could help Emery progress.

Dean McAmmond will be returning in December between the 8th and 20th. Ottawa gives plyers long rest after an injury to make sure they are fully healed and it has been a succesful strategy so far, with Fisher getting points in both of his returning games.

Injury Report

Daniel Alfredsson - Sore Shoulder

Return Date: December 30 -January 10

During a 1-0 shootout loss against Florida Alfredsson was hip checked while trying to get around defenders and landed awkwardly on his shoulder. Alfredsson has been complaining about constant pain in his shoulder and has been flown back to Ottawa.

This could mean the return of McAmmond or Dimitrakos would be given a chance to show what he can do. The first option is more likely since the game against Dallas falls on the 7th, one day before McAmmonds expected return.
