Ottawa won 11 of 14 games, returning to their strong monthly performnace, in October and November. Ottawa has a 9 game winning streak through, going into February. Even with their strong play, the Senators, could not overtake Pittsburgh for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa is 5 point back and will only play the Penguins once more.

Dany Heatley is the biggest story in Ottawa. After scoring only 9 goals in the first 3 months, dissapointing the fans and the team, he has potted 15 goals and 9 assists in January. He has had a few 2 goal games and potted his first hat-trick of the season. Due to Heatley's scoring rush, Spezza and Redden have tallied up more points. Spezza has 27 assists, getting a helper on almost every Heatley goal and Redden has 25, who has also grabbed an assist on almost every Heatley goal.

Ray Emery, earlier this season was being asked about breaking the season shutout record, but since he has slowed down a significant amount. Now there is almost no chance of Emery breaking the record and Patrick Lalime has been getting some games in, more than Emery would like. In these games Lalime has grabbed 2 shutouts, only 1 loss and 8 wins. The other "pro" goalie on the Senators roster, Chiodo, has not played at all since Lalime's return to the capital. Chiodo sits with a 3-3 .500 record, and is likely to be moved down to the minors, where Ottawa already has 3 goalies.

In trade rumors, Ottawa may be looking to move Saprrykin. He has only 8 points, through the 4 months played. That is quadruple of last years, point total. Ottawa would hope to bring in a skilled player, to take Saprykins spot. Chiodo may be packaged with Saprykin, to make it a stronger deal.

Ottawa will have to perform very well in February if they want to take the number 1 spot in the conference and if their winning streak can continue, there is no reason they shouldn't.

Thanks. It will be tough to pass them, since they won't stop winning. Everytime I gain a point on them, I'll lose a game and they'll win, widening their lead. They almost always have a 6 point lead on me. I only have 1 game against them so that will be very exciting and will probably decide who the Eastern Conference champion is.
